1 D esechando, pues, toda malicia, todo engaño, hipocresía, envidias, y todas las detracciones,

Putting away therefore all wickedness, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

2 d esead, como niños recién nacidos, la leche espiritual no adulterada, para que por ella crezcáis para salvación,

as newborn babes, long for the spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation;

3 s i es que habéis gustado la benignidad del Señor. La piedra viva

if ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious:

4 A cercándoos a él, piedra viva, desechada ciertamente por los hombres, mas para Dios escogida y preciosa,

unto whom coming, a living stone, rejected indeed of men, but with God elect, precious,

5 v osotros también, como piedras vivas, sed edificados como casa espiritual y sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales aceptables a Dios por medio de Jesucristo.

ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

6 P or lo cual también contiene la Escritura: He aquí, pongo en Sion la principal piedra del ángulo, escogida, preciosa; Y el que creyere en él, no será avergonzado. m

Because it is contained in scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame.

7 P ara vosotros, pues, los que creéis, él es precioso; pero para los que no creen, La piedra que los edificadores desecharon, Ha venido a ser la cabeza del ángulo; m

For you therefore that believe is the preciousness: but for such as disbelieve, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner;

8 y : Piedra de tropiezo, y roca que hace caer, m porque tropiezan en la palabra, siendo desobedientes; a lo cual fueron también destinados. El pueblo de Dios

and, A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence; for they stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

9 M as vosotros sois linaje escogido, real sacerdocio, nación santa, pueblo adquirido por Dios, para que anunciéis las virtudes de aquel que os llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable;

But ye are a elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

10 v osotros que en otro tiempo no erais pueblo, pero que ahora sois pueblo de Dios; que en otro tiempo no habíais alcanzado misericordia, pero ahora habéis alcanzado misericordia. Vivid como siervos de Dios

who in time past were no people, but now are the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

11 A mados, yo os ruego como a extranjeros y peregrinos, que os abstengáis de los deseos carnales que batallan contra el alma,

Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lust, which war against the soul;

12 m anteniendo buena vuestra manera de vivir entre los gentiles; para que en lo que murmuran de vosotros como de malhechores, glorifiquen a Dios en el día de la visitación, al considerar vuestras buenas obras.

having your behavior seemly among the Gentiles; that, wherein they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

13 P or causa del Señor someteos a toda institución humana, ya sea al rey, como a superior,

Be subject to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether to the king, as supreme;

14 y a a los gobernadores, como por él enviados para castigo de los malhechores y alabanza de los que hacen bien.

or unto governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evil-doers and for praise to them that do well.

15 P orque esta es la voluntad de Dios: que haciendo bien, hagáis callar la ignorancia de los hombres insensatos;

For so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

16 c omo libres, pero no como los que tienen la libertad como pretexto para hacer lo malo, sino como siervos de Dios.

as free, and not using your freedom for a cloak of wickedness, but as bondservants of God.

17 H onrad a todos. Amad a los hermanos. Temed a Dios. Honrad al rey.

Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

18 C riados, estad sujetos con todo respeto a vuestros amos; no solamente a los buenos y afables, sino también a los difíciles de soportar.

Servants, be in subjection to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

19 P orque esto merece aprobación, si alguno a causa de la conciencia delante de Dios, sufre molestias padeciendo injustamente.

For this is acceptable, if for conscience toward God a man endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully.

20 P ues ¿qué gloria es, si pecando sois abofeteados, y lo soportáis? Mas si haciendo lo bueno sufrís, y lo soportáis, esto ciertamente es aprobado delante de Dios.

For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted for it, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

21 P ues para esto fuisteis llamados; porque también Cristo padeció por nosotros, dejándonos ejemplo, para que sigáis sus pisadas;

For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps:

22 e l cual no hizo pecado, ni se halló engaño en su boca;

who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

23 q uien cuando le maldecían, no respondía con maldición; cuando padecía, no amenazaba, sino encomendaba la causa al que juzga justamente;

who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

24 q uien llevó él mismo nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre el madero, para que nosotros, estando muertos a los pecados, vivamos a la justicia; y por cuya herida fuisteis sanados.

who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.

25 P orque vosotros erais como ovejas descarriadas, pero ahora habéis vuelto al Pastor y Obispo de vuestras almas.

For ye were going astray like sheep; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
