1 V ino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

2 H ijo de hombre, ¿qué es la madera de la vid más que cualquier otra madera? ¿Qué es el sarmiento entre los árboles del bosque?

Son of man, what is the vine-tree more than any tree, the vine-branch which is among the trees of the forest?

3 ¿ Tomarán de ella madera para hacer alguna obra? ¿Tomarán de ella una estaca para colgar en ella alguna cosa?

Shall wood be taken thereof to make any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

4 H e aquí, es puesta en el fuego para ser consumida; sus dos extremos consumió el fuego, y la parte de en medio se quemó; ¿servirá para obra alguna?

Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire hath devoured both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned: is it profitable for any work?

5 H e aquí que cuando estaba entera no servía para obra alguna; ¿cuánto menos después que el fuego la hubiere consumido, y fuere quemada? ¿Servirá más para obra alguna?

Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned, shall it yet be meet for any work!

6 P or tanto, así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Como la madera de la vid entre los árboles del bosque, la cual di al fuego para que la consumiese, así haré a los moradores de Jerusalén.

Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As the vine-tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

7 Y pondré mi rostro contra ellos; aunque del fuego se escaparon, fuego los consumirá; y sabréis que yo soy Jehová, cuando pusiere mi rostro contra ellos.

And I will set my face against them; they shall go forth from the fire, but the fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah, when I set my face against them.

8 Y convertiré la tierra en asolamiento, por cuanto cometieron prevaricación, dice Jehová el Señor.

And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord Jehovah.
