1 F irst of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,
I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made for all men;
2 f or kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
for kings and all that are in dignity, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and gravity;
3 T his is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
for this is good and acceptable before our Saviour God,
4 w ho desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
who desires that all men should be saved and come to knowledge of truth.
5 F or there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
For God is one, and mediator of God and men one, man Christ Jesus,
6 w ho gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony in its own times;
7 F or this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle ( I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
to which I have been appointed a herald and apostle, (I speak truth, I do not lie,) a teacher of nations in faith and truth.
8 T herefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. Women Instructed
I will therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up pious hands, without wrath or reasoning.
9 L ikewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments,
In like manner also that the women in decent deportment and dress adorn themselves with modesty and discretion, not with plaited and gold, or pearls, or costly clothing,
10 b ut rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.
but, what becomes women making profession of the fear of God, by good works.
11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
Let a woman learn in quietness in all subjection;
12 B ut I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
but I do not suffer a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over man, but to be in quietness;
13 F or it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.
for Adam was formed first, then Eve:
14 A nd it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
and Adam was not deceived; but the woman, having been deceived, was in transgression.
15 B ut women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.
But she shall be preserved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with discretion.
