1 W hen Jesus had finished these words, He departed from Galilee and came into the region of Judea beyond the Jordan;
And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, he withdrew from Galilee, and came to the coasts of Judaea beyond the Jordan;
2 a nd large crowds followed Him, and He healed them there.
and great crowds followed him, and he healed them there.
3 S ome Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking, “ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”
And the Pharisees came to him tempting him, and saying, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
4 A nd He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female,
But he answering said, Have ye not read that he who made, from the beginning made them male and female,
5 a nd said, ‘ For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh ’?
and said, On account of this a man shall leave father and mother, and shall be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh?
6 S o they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”
so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.
7 T hey said to Him, “ Why then did Moses command to give her a certificate of divorce and send her away ?”
They say to him, Why then did Moses command to give a letter of divorce and to send away?
8 H e said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way.
He says to them, Moses, in view of your hardheartedness, allowed you to put away your wives; but from the beginning it was not thus.
9 A nd I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”
But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, not for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery; and he who marries one put away commits adultery.
10 T he disciples said to Him, “If the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry.”
His disciples say to him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.
11 B ut He said to them, “ Not all men can accept this statement, but only those to whom it has been given.
And he said to them, All cannot receive this word, but those to whom it has been given;
12 F or there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother’s womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this, let him accept it.” Jesus Blesses Little Children
for there are eunuchs which have been born thus from mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs of men; and there are eunuchs who have made eunuchs of themselves for the sake of the kingdom of the heavens. He that is able to receive, let him receive.
13 T hen some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them.
Then there were brought to him little children that he might lay his hands on them and pray; but the disciples rebuked them.
14 B ut Jesus said, “ Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and do not hinder them from coming to me; for the kingdom of the heavens is of such:
15 A fter laying His hands on them, He departed from there. The Rich Young Ruler
and having laid his hands upon them, he departed thence.
16 A nd someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?”
And lo, one coming up said to him, Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have life eternal?
17 A nd He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
And he said to him, What askest thou me concerning goodness? one is good. But if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 T hen he said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “ You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness;
He says to him, Which? And Jesus said, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19 H onor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Honour thy father and thy mother, and Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
20 T he young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?”
The young man says to him, All these have I kept; what lack I yet?
21 J esus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
Jesus said to him, If thou wouldest be perfect, go, sell what thou hast and give to poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.
22 B ut when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.
But the young man, having heard the word, went away grieved, for he had large possessions.
23 A nd Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
And Jesus said to his disciples, Verily I say unto you, A rich man shall with difficulty enter into the kingdom of the heavens;
24 A gain I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
and again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to enter a needle's eye than a rich man into the kingdom of God.
25 W hen the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved?”
And when the disciples heard they were exceedingly astonished, saying, Who then can be saved?
26 A nd looking at them Jesus said to them, “ With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” The Disciples’ Reward
But Jesus, looking on, said to them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
27 T hen Peter said to Him, “Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?”
Then Peter answering said to him, Behold, we have left all things and have followed thee; what then shall happen to us?
28 A nd Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
And Jesus said to them, Verily I say unto you, That ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit down upon his throne of glory, ye also shall sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 A nd everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My name’s sake, will receive many times as much, and will inherit eternal life.
And every one who has left houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit life eternal.
30 B ut many who are first will be last; and the last, first.
But many first shall be last, and last first.
