1 T he Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and testing Jesus, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven.

And the Pharisees and Sadducees, coming to, asked him, tempting, to shew them a sign out of heaven.

2 B ut He replied to them, “ When it is evening, you say, ‘ It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’

But he answering said to them, When evening is come, ye say, Fine weather, for the sky is red;

3 A nd in the morning, ‘ There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?

and in the morning, A storm to-day, for the sky is red lowering; ye know to discern the face of the sky, but ye cannot the signs of the times.

4 A n evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.

A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it save the sign of Jonas. And he left them and went away.

5 A nd the disciples came to the other side of the sea, but they had forgotten to bring any bread.

And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.

6 A nd Jesus said to them, “Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

And Jesus said to them, See and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

7 T hey began to discuss this among themselves, saying, “ He said that because we did not bring any bread.”

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, Because we have taken no bread.

8 B ut Jesus, aware of this, said, “ You men of little faith, why do you discuss among yourselves that you have no bread?

And Jesus knowing, said, Why reason ye among yourselves, O ye of little faith, because ye have taken no bread?

9 D o you not yet understand or remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets full you picked up?

Do ye not yet understand nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many hand-baskets ye took ?

10 O r the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many large baskets full you picked up?

nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took ?

11 H ow is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

How do ye not understand that not concerning bread I said to you, Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?

12 T hen they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Peter’s Confession of Christ

Then they comprehended that he did not speak of being beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

13 N ow when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”

But when Jesus was come into the parts of Caesarea-Philippi, he demanded of his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I the Son of man am?

14 A nd they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”

And they said, Some, John the baptist; and others, Elias; and others again, Jeremias or one of the prophets.

15 H e said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

He says to them, But ye, who do ye say that I am?

16 S imon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

And Simon Peter answering said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 A nd Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

And Jesus answering said to him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona, for flesh and blood has not revealed to thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.

18 I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

And I also, I say unto thee that thou art Peter, and on this rock I will build my assembly, and hades' gates shall not prevail against it.

19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”

And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of the heavens; and whatsoever thou mayest bind upon the earth shall be bound in the heavens; and whatsoever thou mayest loose on the earth shall be loosed in the heavens.

20 T hen He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ. Jesus Foretells His Death

Then he enjoined on his disciples that they should say to no man that he was the Christ.

21 F rom that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day.

From that time Jesus began to shew to his disciples that he must go away to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised.

22 P eter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “ God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You.”

And Peter taking him to began to rebuke him, saying, be favourable to thee, Lord; this shall in no wise be unto thee.

23 B ut He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.” Discipleship Is Costly

But turning round, he said to Peter, Get away behind me, Satan; thou art an offence to me, for thy mind is not on the things that are of God, but on the things that are of men.

24 T hen Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, If any one desires to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

25 F or whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

For whosoever shall desire to save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it.

26 F or what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

For what does a man profit, if he should gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

27 F or the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds.

For the Son of man is about to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will render to each according to his doings.

28 Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”

Verily I say unto you, There are some of those standing here that shall not taste of death at all until they shall have seen the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
