1 N ow it came about in the days of Ahaz, the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Aram and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but could not conquer it.

And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz, the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem to make war against it, but they were not able to fight against it.

2 W hen it was reported to the house of David, saying, “The Arameans have camped in Ephraim,” his heart and the hearts of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake with the wind.

And it was told the house of David saying, Syria is allied with Ephraim. Then his heart and the heart of his people shook, as the trees of the forest are shaken with the wind.

3 T hen the Lord said to Isaiah, “Go out now to meet Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway to the fuller’s field,

And Jehovah said to Isaiah, Go out now to meet Ahaz, thou and thy son Shear-jashub, at the end of the aqueduct of the upper pool, on the highway of the fuller's field;

4 a nd say to him, ‘Take care and be calm, have no fear and do not be fainthearted because of these two stubs of smoldering firebrands, on account of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and the son of Remaliah.

and thou shalt say unto him, Take heed and be quiet; fear not, and let not thy heart faint before these two ends of smoking firebrands, because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.

5 B ecause Aram, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has planned evil against you, saying,

Inasmuch as Syria hath taken evil counsel against thee, Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, saying,

6 Let us go up against Judah and terrorize it, and make for ourselves a breach in its walls and set up the son of Tabeel as king in the midst of it,”

Let us go up against Judah, and harass it, and make a breach therein for us, and set up a king therein—the son of Tabeal;

7 t hus says the Lord God: “ It shall not stand nor shall it come to pass.

thus saith the Lord Jehovah: It shall not stand, nor come to pass;

8 F or the head of Aram is Damascus and the head of Damascus is Rezin (now within another 65 years Ephraim will be shattered, so that it is no longer a people),

for the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within sixty-five years shall Ephraim be broken, so as to be no people;

9 a nd the head of Ephraim is Samaria and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not believe, you surely shall not last.”’” The Child Immanuel

and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If ye believe not, surely ye shall not be established.

10 T hen the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying,

And Jehovah spoke again to Ahaz, saying,

11 Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven.”

Ask for thee a sign from Jehovah thy God; ask for it in the deep, or in the height above.

12 B ut Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!”

And Ahaz said, I will not ask, and will not tempt Jehovah.

13 T hen he said, “Listen now, O house of David! Is it too slight a thing for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God as well?

And he said, Hear then, house of David: Is it a small matter for you to weary men, that ye weary also my God?

14 T herefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.

Therefore will the Lord himself give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and shall bring forth a son, and call his name Immanuel.

15 H e will eat curds and honey at the time He knows enough to refuse evil and choose good.

Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and to choose the good.

16 F or before the boy will know enough to refuse evil and choose good, the land whose two kings you dread will be forsaken. Trials to Come for Judah

For before the child knoweth to refuse the evil and to choose the good, the land whose two kings thou fearest shall be forsaken.

17 T he Lord will bring on you, on your people, and on your father’s house such days as have never come since the day that Ephraim separated from Judah, the king of Assyria.”

Jehovah will bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, days which have not come since the day when Ephraim turned away from Judah— the king of Assyria.

18 I n that day the Lord will whistle for the fly that is in the remotest part of the rivers of Egypt and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah will hiss for the fly which is at the extremity of the streams of Egypt, and for the bee which is in the land of Assyria;

19 T hey will all come and settle on the steep ravines, on the ledges of the cliffs, on all the thorn bushes and on all the watering places.

and they shall come and settle all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and on all thorn-bushes, and on all the pastures.

20 I n that day the Lord will shave with a razor, hired from regions beyond the Euphrates ( that is, with the king of Assyria), the head and the hair of the legs; and it will also remove the beard.

In that day will the Lord, with a razor which is hired beyond the river, with the king of Assyria, shave the head and the hair of the feet, yea, the beard also will it take away.

21 N ow in that day a man may keep alive a heifer and a pair of sheep;

And it shall come to pass in that day, a man shall nourish a young cow and two sheep,

22 a nd because of the abundance of the milk produced he will eat curds, for everyone that is left within the land will eat curds and honey.

and it shall come to pass, from the abundance of milk they shall give, he shall eat butter; for every one that remaineth in the midst of the land shall eat butter and honey.

23 A nd it will come about in that day, that every place where there used to be a thousand vines, valued at a thousand shekels of silver, will become briars and thorns.

And it shall come to pass in that day, every place, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silver pieces, shall become briars and thorns:

24 P eople will come there with bows and arrows because all the land will be briars and thorns.

with arrows and with the bow shall they come thither, for the whole land shall become briars and thorns.

25 A s for all the hills which used to be cultivated with the hoe, you will not go there for fear of briars and thorns; but they will become a place for pasturing oxen and for sheep to trample.

And all mountains that have been dug up with the hoe—thither will they not come, from fear of briars and thorns; and they shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of small cattle.
