6 A nd the devil said to Him, “I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.

And the devil said to him, I will give thee all this power, and their glory; for it is given up to me, and to whomsoever I will I give it.

7 T herefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours.”

If therefore thou wilt do homage before me, all shall be thine.

8 J esus answered him, “It is written, ‘ You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’”

And Jesus answering him said, It is written, Thou shalt do homage to Lord thy God, and him alone shalt thou serve.

9 A nd he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here;

And he led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the edge of the temple, and said to him, If thou be Son of God, cast thyself down hence;

10 f or it is written, ‘ He will command His angels concerning You to guard You,’

for it is written, He shall give charge to his angels concerning thee to keep thee;

11 a nd, ‘ On their hands they will bear You up, So that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”

and on hands shall they bear thee, lest in any wise thou strike thy foot against a stone.

12 A nd Jesus answered and said to him, “It is said, ‘ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

And Jesus answering said to him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt Lord thy God.

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed,

Spirit of Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach glad tidings to poor; he has sent me to preach to captives deliverance, and to blind sight, to send forth crushed delivered,

19 T o proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”

to preach acceptable year of Lord.

20 A nd He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him.

And having rolled up the book, when he had delivered it up to the attendant, he sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon him.

21 A nd He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

And he began to say to them, To-day this scripture is fulfilled in your ears.

22 A nd all were speaking well of Him, and wondering at the gracious words which were falling from His lips; and they were saying, “ Is this not Joseph’s son?”

And all bore witness to him, and wondered at the words of grace which were coming out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this the son of Joseph?

23 A nd He said to them, “No doubt you will quote this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we heard was done at Capernaum, do here in your hometown as well.’”

And he said to them, Ye will surely say to me this parable, Physician, heal thyself; whatsoever we have heard has taken place in Capernaum do here also in thine own country.

24 A nd He said, “Truly I say to you, no prophet is welcome in his hometown.

And he said, Verily I say to you, that no prophet is acceptable in his country.

25 B ut I say to you in truth, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up for three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land;

But of a truth I say to you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up for three years and six months, so that a great famine came upon all the land,

26 a nd yet Elijah was sent to none of them, but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.

and to none of them was Elias sent but to Sarepta of Sidonia, to a woman a widow.

27 A nd there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.”

28 A nd all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage as they heard these things;

And there was in the synagogue a man having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried with a loud voice,

34 Let us alone! What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are— the Holy One of God!”

saying, Eh! what have we to do with thee, Jesus, Nazarene? hast thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy of God.

35 B ut Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst of the people, he came out of him without doing him any harm.

And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out from him. And the demon, having thrown him down into the midst, came out from him without doing him any injury.

36 A nd amazement came upon them all, and they began talking with one another saying, “What is this message? For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits and they come out.”

And astonishment came upon all, and they spoke to one another, saying, What word this? for with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.

43 B ut He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent for this purpose.”

But he said to them, I must needs announce the glad tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for for this I have been sent forth.
