1 “ Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
Take heed not to do your alms before men to be seen of them, otherwise ye have no reward with your Father who is in the heavens.
2 “ So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 B ut when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
But thou, when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand does;
4 s o that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
so that thine alms may be in secret, and thy Father who sees in secret will render to thee.
5 “ When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites; for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets so that they should appear to men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 B ut you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who sees in secret will render to thee.
7 “ And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as those who are of the nations: for they think they shall be heard through their much speaking.
8 S o do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Be not ye therefore like them, for your Father knows of what things ye have need before ye beg of him.
9 “ Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Thus therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in the heavens, let thy name be sanctified,
10 ‘ Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.
let thy kingdom come, let thy will be done as in heaven so upon the earth;
11 ‘ Give us this day our daily bread.
give us to-day our needed bread,
12 ‘ And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 ‘ And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
and lead us not into temptation, but save us from evil.
14 F or if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
For if ye forgive men their offences, your heavenly Father also will forgive you,
15 B ut if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. Fasting; The True Treasure; Wealth (Mammon)

16 “ Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
And when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, downcast in countenance; for they disfigure their faces, so that they may appear fasting to men: verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
17 B ut you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face
But thou, fasting, anoint thy head and wash thy face,
18 s o that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
so that thou mayest not appear fasting unto men, but to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father who sees in secret shall render to thee.
19 “ Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust spoils, and where thieves dig through and steal;
20 B ut store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust spoils, and where thieves do not dig through nor steal;
21 f or where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
for where thy treasure is, there will be also thy heart.
22 “ The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.
The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body will be light:
23 B ut if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
but if thine eye be wicked, thy whole body will be dark. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great the darkness!
24 “ No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. The Cure for Anxiety
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and will love the other, or he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 “ For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
For this cause I say unto you, Do not be careful about your life, what ye should eat and what ye should drink; nor for your body what ye should put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment?
26 L ook at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
Look at the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, nor reap, nor gather into granaries, and your heavenly Father nourishes them. Are ye not much more excellent than they?
27 A nd who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?
But which of you by carefulness can add to his growth one cubit?
28 A nd why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,
And why are ye careful about clothing? Observe with attention the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin;
29 y et I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.
but I say unto you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed as one of these.
30 B ut if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!
But if God so clothe the herbage of the field, which is to-day, and to-morrow is cast into oven, will he not much rather you, O of little faith?
31 D o not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’
Be not therefore careful, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we put on?
32 F or the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
for all these things the nations seek after; for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things.
33 B ut seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 “ So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Be not careful therefore for the morrow, for the morrow shall be careful about itself. Sufficient to the day its own evil.
