1 F irst of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,

I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men;

2 f or kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity.

3 T his is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4 w ho desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth.

5 F or there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

For there is one God, one mediator also between God and men, himself man, Christ Jesus,

6 w ho gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.

who gave himself a ransom for all; the testimony to be borne in its own times;

7 F or this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle ( I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

8 T herefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. Women Instructed

I desire therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing.

9 L ikewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments,

In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment;

10 b ut rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.

but (which becometh women professing godliness) through good works.

11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.

Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection.

12 B ut I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.

But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness.

13 F or it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.

For Adam was first formed, then Eve;

14 A nd it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

and Adam was not beguiled, but the woman being beguiled hath fallen into transgression:

15 B ut women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.

but she shall be saved through her child-bearing, if they continue in faith and love and sanctification with sobriety.
