1 W hen Jesus had spoken these words, He went forth with His disciples over the ravine of the Kidron, where there was a garden, in which He entered with His disciples.

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where was a garden, into which he entered, himself and his disciples.

2 N ow Judas also, who was betraying Him, knew the place, for Jesus had often met there with His disciples.

Now Judas also, who betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus oft-times resorted thither with his disciples.

3 J udas then, having received the Roman cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons.

Judas then, having received the band of soldiers, and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

4 S o Jesus, knowing all the things that were coming upon Him, went forth and said to them, “ Whom do you seek?”

Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were coming upon him, went forth, and saith unto them, Whom seek ye?

5 T hey answered Him, “Jesus the Nazarene.” He said to them, “I am He.” And Judas also, who was betraying Him, was standing with them.

They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.

6 S o when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground.

When therefore he said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.

7 T herefore He again asked them, “ Whom do you seek?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene.”

Again therefore he asked them, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.

8 J esus answered, “I told you that I am He; so if you seek Me, let these go their way,”

Jesus answered, I told you that I am he; if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:

9 t o fulfill the word which He spoke, “ Of those whom You have given Me I lost not one.”

that the word might be fulfilled which he spake, Of those whom thou hast given me I lost not one.

10 S imon Peter then, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave’s name was Malchus.

Simon Peter therefore having a sword drew it, and struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. Now the servant's name was Malchus.

11 S o Jesus said to Peter, “Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me, shall I not drink it?” Jesus before the Priests

Jesus therefore said unto Peter, Put up the sword into the sheath: the cup which the Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

12 S o the Roman cohort and the commander and the officers of the Jews, arrested Jesus and bound Him,

So the band and the chief captain, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him,

13 a nd led Him to Annas first; for he was father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

and led him to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

14 N ow Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it was expedient for one man to die on behalf of the people.

Now Caiaphas was he that gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

15 S imon Peter was following Jesus, and so was another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered with Jesus into the court of the high priest,

And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. Now that disciple was known unto the high priest, and entered in with Jesus into the court of the high priest;

16 b ut Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the doorkeeper, and brought Peter in.

but Peter was standing at the door without. So the other disciple, who was known unto the high priest, went out and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.

17 T hen the slave-girl who kept the door said to Peter, “ You are not also one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.”

The maid therefore that kept the door saith unto Peter, Art thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not.

18 N ow the slaves and the officers were standing there, having made a charcoal fire, for it was cold and they were warming themselves; and Peter was also with them, standing and warming himself.

Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals; for it was cold; and they were warming themselves: and Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself.

19 T he high priest then questioned Jesus about His disciples, and about His teaching.

The high priest therefore asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his teaching.

20 J esus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world; I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and I spoke nothing in secret.

Jesus answered him, I have spoken openly to the world; I ever taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and in secret spake I nothing.

21 W hy do you question Me? Question those who have heard what I spoke to them; they know what I said.”

Why askest thou me? Ask them that have heard me, what I spake unto them: behold, these know the things which I said.

22 W hen He had said this, one of the officers standing nearby struck Jesus, saying, “Is that the way You answer the high priest?”

And when he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

23 J esus answered him, “If I have spoken wrongly, testify of the wrong; but if rightly, why do you strike Me?”

Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?

24 S o Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the high priest. Peter’s Denial of Jesus

Annas therefore sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.

25 N ow Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “ You are not also one of His disciples, are you?” He denied it, and said, “I am not.”

Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore unto him, Art thou also one of his disciples? He denied, and said, I am not.

26 O ne of the slaves of the high priest, being a relative of the one whose ear Peter cut off, said, “Did I not see you in the garden with Him?”

One of the servants of the high priest, being a kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?

27 P eter then denied it again, and immediately a rooster crowed. Jesus before Pilate

Peter therefore denied again: and straightway the cock crew.

28 T hen they led Jesus from Caiaphas into the Praetorium, and it was early; and they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium so that they would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

They lead Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium: and it was early; and they themselves entered not into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the passover.

29 T herefore Pilate went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this Man?”

Pilate therefore went out unto them, and saith, What accusation bring ye against this man?

30 T hey answered and said to him, “If this Man were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him to you.”

They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evildoer, we should not have delivered him up unto thee.

31 S o Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law.” The Jews said to him, “We are not permitted to put anyone to death,”

Pilate therefore said unto them, Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law. The Jews said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:

32 t o fulfill the word of Jesus which He spoke, signifying by what kind of death He was about to die.

that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying by what manner of death he should die.

33 T herefore Pilate entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, “ Are You the King of the Jews?”

Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?

34 J esus answered, “Are you saying this on your own initiative, or did others tell you about Me?”

Jesus answered, Sayest thou this of thyself, or did others tell it thee concerning me?

35 P ilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered You to me; what have You done?”

Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?

36 J esus answered, “ My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

37 T herefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “ You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end am I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

38 P ilate said to Him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, “ I find no guilt in Him.

Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find no crime in him.

39 B ut you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover; do you wish then that I release for you the King of the Jews?”

But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

40 S o they cried out again, saying, “ Not this Man, but Barabbas.” Now Barabbas was a robber.

They cried out therefore again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.)
