1 T herefore when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John

When therefore the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John

2 ( although Jesus Himself was not baptizing, but His disciples were),

(although Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples),

3 H e left Judea and went away again into Galilee.

he left Judea, and departed again into Galilee.

4 A nd He had to pass through Samaria.

And he must needs pass through Samaria.

5 S o He came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph;

So he cometh to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph:

6 a nd Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, being wearied from His journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. The Woman of Samaria

and Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

7 T here came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”

There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

8 F or His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

For his disciples were gone away into the city to buy food.

9 T herefore the Samaritan woman said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

The Samaritan woman therefore saith unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a Samaritan woman? (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

10 J esus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

Jesus answered and said unto unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11 S he said to Him, “ Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where then do You get that living water?

The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou that living water?

12 Y ou are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?”

Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle?

13 J esus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;

Jesus answered and said unto her, Every one that drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14 b ut whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life.

15 T he woman said to Him, “ Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw.”

The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come all the way hither to draw.

16 H e said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.”

Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

17 T he woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’;

The woman answered and said unto him, I have no husband. Jesus saith unto her, Thou saidst well, I have no husband:

18 f or you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”

for thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: this hast thou said truly.

19 T he woman said to Him, “ Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.

The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

20 O ur fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”

Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21 J esus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall ye worship the Father.

22 Y ou worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

Ye worship that which ye know not: we worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.

23 B ut an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers.

24 G od is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

25 T he woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming ( He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.”

The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh (he that is called Christ): when he is come, he will declare unto us all things.

26 J esus said to her, “ I who speak to you am He.”

Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

27 A t this point His disciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman, yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why do You speak with her?”

And upon this came his disciples; and they marvelled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?

28 S o the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and said to the men,

So the woman left her waterpot, and went away into the city, and saith to the people,

29 Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?”

Come, see a man, who told me all things that ever I did: can this be the Christ?

30 T hey went out of the city, and were coming to Him.

They went out of the city, and were coming to him.

31 M eanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “ Rabbi, eat.”

In the mean while the disciples prayed him, saying, Rabbi, eat.

32 B ut He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”

But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not.

33 S o the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?”

The disciples therefore said one to another, Hath any man brought him aught to eat?

34 J esus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.

Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work.

35 D o you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.

Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh the harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white already unto harvest.

36 A lready he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

He that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal; that he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

37 F or in this case the saying is true, ‘ One sows and another reaps.’

For herein is the saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.” The Samaritans

I sent you to reap that whereon ye have not labored: others have labored, and ye are entered into their labor.

39 F rom that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “ He told me all the things that I have done.”

And from that city many of the Samaritans believed on him because of the word of the woman, who testified, He told me all things that ever I did.

40 S o when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.

So when the Samaritans came unto him, they besought him to abide with them: and he abode there two days.

41 M any more believed because of His word;

And many more believed because of his word;

42 a nd they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world.”

and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking: for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.

43 A fter the two days He went forth from there into Galilee.

And after the two days he went forth from thence into Galilee.

44 F or Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honor in his own country.

45 S o when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves also went to the feast. Healing a Nobleman’s Son

So when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

46 T herefore He came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a royal official whose son was sick at Capernaum.

He came therefore again unto Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

47 W hen he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was imploring Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.

When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.

48 S o Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you simply will not believe.”

Jesus therefore said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will in no wise believe.

49 T he royal official said to Him, “ Sir, come down before my child dies.”

The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

50 J esus said to him, “ Go; your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off.

Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. The man believed the word that Jesus spake unto him, and he went his way.

51 A s he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his son was living.

And as he was now going down, his servants met him, saying, that his son lived.

52 S o he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”

So he inquired of them the hour when he began to amend. They said therefore unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

53 S o the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”; and he himself believed and his whole household.

So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

54 T his is again a second sign that Jesus performed when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.

This is again the second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judaea into Galilee.
