1 ا نظُرْ يا اللهُ ما حَلَّ بِنا. تَطَلَّعْ وَانظُرْ إلَى تَعيِيرِنا.

Remember, O Jehovah, what is come upon us; consider, and see our reproach.

2 ا لأرْضُ الَّتِي وَرِثْناها صارَتْ لِلغُرَباءِ، وَأُعطِيَتْ بُيُوتُنا لِلأجانِبِ.

Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.

3 أ يتاماً صِرْنا دُونَ آباءٍ، وَكَأرامِلَ أُمَّهاتُنا.

We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.

4 ب ِالمالِ نَشْرَبُ ماءَنا، وَنَدفَعُ ثَمَنَ حَطَبِنا.

Our water have we to drink for money, our wood cometh unto us for a price.

5 ي ُلاحِقُونَنا عَنْ كَثَبٍ. تَعِبْنا، وَلَمْ نَلتَقِطْ أنفاسَنا.

Our pursuers are on our necks: we are weary, we have no rest.

6 م َدَدْنا أيادِينا إلَى مِصْرَ وَأشُّورَ لِيَكُونَ لَنا طَعامٌ يَكفِينا.

We have given the hand to Egypt, to Asshur, to be satisfied with bread.

7 أ خطَأ آباؤُنا، وَهُمُ الآنَ مَوْتَى، وَنَحنُ نُعانِي مِنْ عَواقِبِ آثامِهِمْ.

Our fathers have sinned, they are not; and we bear their iniquities.

8 ا لعَبِيدُ يَحكُمُونَنا، وَلَيسَ مَنْ يُحَرِّرُنا مِنْ قُوَّتِهِمْ.

Bondmen rule over us: there is no deliverer out of their hand.

9 ب ِحَياتِنا نُخاطِرُ لِنَجلِبَ طَعامَنا، بِسَبَبِ سَيفِ المُطارِدِ.

We have to get our bread at the risk of our lives, because of the sword of the wilderness.

10 ا سْوَدَّتْ جُلُودُنا كَفُرْنٍ بِسَبَبِ حُمَّى المَجاعَةِ.

Our skin gloweth like an oven, because of the burning heat of the famine.

11 ا غتَصَبَ جُنُودُ العَدُوِّ نِساءَ صِهْيَوْنَ، العَذارَى فِي مُدُنِ يَهُوذا.

They have ravished the women in Zion, the maids in the cities of Judah.

12 ب ِأمرِهِمْ شُنِقَ الأُمَراءُ، وَلَمْ يُوَقَّرِ الشُّيُوخُ.

Princes were hanged up by their hand; the faces of elders were not honoured.

13 ي ُدِيرَ شَبابُنا المُختارُونَ حَجَرَ الرَّحَى، وَمِنَ العَمَلِ الشّاقِّ يَتَعَثَّرُ الفِتيانُ.

The young men have borne the mill, and the youths have stumbled under the wood.

14 ك َفَّ الشُّيُوخُ عَنِ الجُلُوسِ عِندَ البَوّابَةِ، وَكَفَّ الشُّبّانُ عَنْ عَزفِ المُوسِيقَى.

The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their music.

15 ت َوَقَّفَتْ قُلُوبُنا عَنِ الفَرَحِ، وَتَحَوَّلَ رَقْصُنا إلَى بُكاءٍ.

The joy of our heart hath ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.

16 س َقَطَ التّاجُ عَنْ رَأْسِنا. يا وَيلَنا، لِأنَّنا أخطَأْنا!

The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, for we have sinned!

17 ل ِهَذا كُلِّهِ قُلُوبُنا مُكتَئِبَةٌ. وَبِسَبَبِ هَذِهِ كُلِّها، لا تَرَى رَجاءً.

For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes have grown dim,

18 ع َلَى جَبَلِ صِهْيَوْنَ المَهجُورِ تَسرَحُ الثَّعالِبُ.

Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate: foxes walk over it.

19 ل َكِنَّكَ يا اللهُ إلَى الأبَدِ تَسُودُ. عَرْشُكَ يَدُومُ جِيلاً بَعْدَ جِيلٍ.

Thou, Jehovah, dwellest for ever; thy throne is from generation to generation.

20 ل ِماذا تَظَلُّ تَتَجاهَلُنا؟ لِماذا تَترُكُنا هَكَذا طَوِيلاً؟

Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, dost thou forsake us so long time?

21 أ رْجِعْنا إلَيْكَ يا اللهُ فَنَرْجِعَ، وَاجْعَلْ حَياتَنا كَما كانَتْ قَدِيماً.

Turn thou us unto thee, Jehovah, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

22 أ مْ لَعَلَّكَ رَفَضِتَنا رَفْضاً تامّاً؟ وَغَضِبْتَ كَثِيراً عَلَينا؟

Or is it that thou hast utterly rejected us? Wouldest thou be exceeding wroth against us?
