1 « ها قَدْ رَأتْ عَينِي هَذا كُلَّهُ، وَسَمِعَتْهُ أُذُنِي وَفَهِمَتْهُ.

Lo, mine eye hath seen all, mine ear hath heard and understood it.

2 ف َأنا أعرِفُ ما تَعرِفُونَ، فَلَستُ دُونَكُمْ.

What ye know, I know also: I am not inferior to you.

3 غ َيرَ أنِّي أوَدُّ أنْ أتَحَدَّثَ إلَى القَدِيرِ، وَأُحاجِجَهُ بِشَأْنِ قَضِيَّتِي.

But I will speak to the Almighty, and will find pleasure in reasoning with God;

4 ل َكِنَّكُمْ تُحِبُّونَ أنْ تَستُرُوا جَهلَكُمْ بِالكَذِبِ، كُلُّكُمْ أطِبّاءٌ عاجِزُونَ.

For ye indeed are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value.

5 ل َيتَكُمْ تَصْمِتُونَ! فَيَكُونُ هَذا أحكَمَ شَيءٍ تَفعَلُونَهُ!

Oh that ye would be altogether silent! and it would be your wisdom.

6 « اسْمَعُوا رَأيِي، وَانتَبِهُوا لِلحُجَجِ الَّتِي سَأطرَحُها.

Hear now my defence, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.

7 ه َلْ تَكذِبُونَ لأجلِ اللهِ، وَتَتَحَدَّثُونَ بِالغِشِّ لِمَصلَحَتِهِ؟

Will ye speak unrighteously for God? and for him speak deceit?

8 ه َلْ تَتَمَلَّقُونَ اللهَ، وَتُدافِعُونَ عَنْ قَضِيَّتِهِ؟

Will ye accept his person? will ye contend for God?

9 إ نْ فَحَصَكُمِ اللهُ، أيَقُولُ إنَّكُمْ عَلَى صَوابٍ؟ أمْ تَستَطِيعُونَ خِداعَهُ كَما يَخدَعُ البَشَرُ أحَدُهُمُ الآخَرَ؟

Will it be well if he should search you out? or as one mocketh at a man, will ye mock at him?

10 ل ا شَكَّ فِي أنَّهُ سَيُؤَدِّبُكُمْ إنْ كُنتُمْ مُتَحَيِّزِينَ فِي السِّرِّ.

He will certainly reprove you, if ye do secretly accept persons.

11 أ لا يُرعِبُكُمْ حِينَ يَنهَضُ؟ ألا تَخافُونَهُ؟

Shall not his excellency terrify you? and his dread fall upon you?

12 ح َفِظتُمْ أمثالاً تافِهَةً كَالرَّمادِ تُجادِلُونَ بِها، وَأجوِبَتُكُمْ هَشَّةٌ كَالطِّينِ.

Your memorable sayings are proverbs of ashes, your bulwarks are bulwarks of mire.

13 « اصمُتُوا وَدَعُونِي أتَكَلَّمْ، وَلِيَحدُثْ لِي ما يَحْدُثُ.

Hold your peace from me, and I will speak, and let come on me what!

14 ل ِماذا أُخاطِرُ بِحَياتِي، وَأضَعُ نَفْسِي فِي كَفِّي؟

Wherefore should I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand?

15 ه َلْ سَيَقتُلُنِي اللهُ؟ حَتَّى لَوْ فَعَلَ، فَرَجائِي فِيهِ. غَيرَ أنِّي سَأُدافِعُ عَنْ نَفسِي أمامَ وَجهِهِ.

Behold, if he slay me, yet would I trust in him; but I will defend mine own ways before him.

16 ف َهُوَ نَفسُهُ سَيُخَلِّصُنِي، لأنَّ الفاجِرَ لا يَستَطِيعُ أنْ يَقِفَ أمامَهُ.

This also shall be my salvation, that a profane man shall not come before his face.

17 ا نتَبِهُوا لِما أقُولُ، وَاصْغُوا لِما أُخبِرُكُمْ بِهِ.

Hear attentively my speech and my declaration with your ears.

18 ه ا أنا قَدْ أعدَدتُ دِفاعِي، وَأنا أعلَمُ أنِّي سَأُبَرَّأُ.

Behold now, I have ordered the cause; I know that I shall be justified.

19 ف َمَنْ يُثبِتُ تُهمَةً عَلَيَّ؟ فَإنْ فَعَلَ فَإنِّي سَأخرَسُ وَأمُوتُ.

Who is he that contendeth with me? For if I were silent now, I should expire.

20 « لَكِنِّي أسألُكَ أنْ لا تَفعَلَ أمرَينَ بِي، حِينَئِذٍ، لَنْ أختَبِئَ مِنكَ.

Only do not two things unto me; then will I not hide myself from thee.

21 أ بْعِدْ يَدَكَ عَنِّي، وَتَوَقَّفْ عَنْ تَرهِيبِي بِخَوفِكَ.

Withdraw thy hand far from me; and let not thy terror make me afraid:

22 ا دْعُنِي وَأنا سَأُجِيبُ. أوْ دَعْنِي أتَكَلَّمْ، وَأجِبْ أنْتَ.

Then call, and I will answer; or I will speak, and answer thou me.

23 ك َمْ هِيَ ذُنُوبِي وَخَطايايَ؟ أرِنِي أينَ جَرِيمَتِي وَخَطِيَّتِي.

How many are mine iniquities and sins? Make me to know my transgression and my sin.

24 ل ِماذا تُخفِي عَنِّي وَجهَكَ، وَتَعتَبِرُنِي عَدُوَّكَ؟

Wherefore dost thou hide thy face, and countest me for thine enemy?

25 أ تُرعِبُ وَرَقَةً تَحْمِلُها الرِّيحُ، أمْ تُطارِدُ قَشَّةً يابِسَةً؟

Wilt thou terrify a driven leaf? and wilt thou pursue dry stubble?

26 ل أنَّكَ كَتَبتَ تُهَماً لاذِعَةً ضِدِّي، وَجَعَلتَنِي أُعانِي بِسَبَبِ آثامِ شَبابِي.

For thou writest bitter things against me, and makest me to possess the iniquities of my youth;

27 ت ُقَيِّدُ قَدَمَيَّ بِالحَدِيدِ وَالخَشَبِ، تُراقِبُ كُلَّ مَكانٍ أذهَبُ إلَيهِ، وَتُراقِبُ كُلَّ خُطوَةٍ أخطُوها.

And thou puttest my feet in the stocks, and markest all my paths; thou settest a bound about the soles of my feet;—

28 و َأنا أتلَفُ كَشَيءٍ عَفِنٍ، كَثَوبٍ يَأكُلُهُ العُثُّ.

One who, as a rotten thing consumeth, as a garment that the moth eateth.
