1 B ut as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.
¶ But speak thou the things which are expedient unto sound doctrine,
2 O lder men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.
that the aged men be temperate, venerable, prudent, sound in faith, in charity, in tolerance.
3 O lder women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of honesty;
4 s o that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
that they may teach the young women to be prudent, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 t o be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
to be temperate, chaste, good housekeepers, subject to their own husbands, that the word of God not be blasphemed.
6 L ikewise urge the young men to be sensible;
Young men likewise exhort to be temperate;
7 i n all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified,
in all things showing thyself as an example of good works, in doctrine showing integrity, seriousness, purity,
8 s ound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.
sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that the adversary may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
9 U rge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
Exhort slaves to be subject to their own masters and to please them well in all things; not contradicting;
10 n ot pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.
not defrauding, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.
11 F or the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
12 i nstructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,
teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world;
13 l ooking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,
waiting for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ,
14 w ho gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a people of his own, zealous of good works.
15 T hese things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
