1 B ut as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.

But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:

2 O lder men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.

that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;

3 O lder women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,

the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—

4 s o that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,

that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,

5 t o be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.

6 L ikewise urge the young men to be sensible;

Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded,

7 i n all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified,

in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,

8 s ound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.

sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.

9 U rge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,

Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back,

10 n ot pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.

not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. Trained by Saving Grace

11 F or the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,

12 i nstructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,

teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,

13 l ooking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,

looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

14 w ho gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

15 T hese things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.

Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
