1 “ Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the Lord your God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you are going over to possess it,
¶ Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the rights, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you that ye might do them in the land into which ye go to inherit it
2 s o that you and your son and your grandson might fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.
that thou might fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou and thy son and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life and that thy days may be prolonged.
3 O Israel, you should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
Hear, therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it that it may be well with thee and that ye may be multiplied exceedingly (as the LORD God of thy fathers has said unto thee) in the land that flows with milk and honey.
4 “ Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one!
¶ Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.
5 Y ou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul and with all thy might.
6 T hese words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart,
7 Y ou shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.
and thou shalt repeat them diligently unto thy sons and shalt talk of them being in thy house and walking by the way, lying down in bed, and rising up;
8 Y ou shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.
and thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thy eyes;
9 Y ou shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
and thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house and on thy gates.
10 “ Then it shall come about when the Lord your God brings you into the land which He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you, great and splendid cities which you did not build,
And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give it unto thee: great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build,
11 a nd houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and hewn cisterns which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and you eat and are satisfied,
and houses full of all good things, which thou didst not fill, and hewn out wells, which thou didst not dig, vineyards and olive trees, which thou didst not plant; when thou shalt have eaten and be full,
12 t hen watch yourself, that you do not forget the Lord who brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
then beware lest thou forget the LORD, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.
13 Y ou shall fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name.
Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God and serve him and shalt swear by his name.
14 Y ou shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you,
Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are round about you
15 f or the Lord your God in the midst of you is a jealous God; otherwise the anger of the Lord your God will be kindled against you, and He will wipe you off the face of the earth.
(for the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest peradventure the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
16 “ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, as you tested Him at Massah.
Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
17 Y ou should diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and His testimonies and His statutes which He has commanded you.
¶ Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded thee.
18 Y ou shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which the Lord swore to give your fathers,
And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD that it may be well with thee and that thou may enter in and inherit the good land which the LORD swore unto thy fathers
19 b y driving out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has spoken.
so that he will cast out all thine enemies from before thy presence, as the LORD has spoken.
20 “ When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What do the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments mean which the Lord our God commanded you?’
And when tomorrow thy son asks thee, saying, What are the testimonies and the statutes and the rights, which the LORD our God has commanded you?
21 t hen you shall say to your son, ‘We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord brought us from Egypt with a mighty hand.
Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt, and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand;
22 M oreover, the Lord showed great and distressing signs and wonders before our eyes against Egypt, Pharaoh and all his household;
and the LORD showed signs and wonders, great and sore, in Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes;
23 H e brought us out from there in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers.’
and he brought us out from there that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore unto our fathers.
24 S o the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God for our good always and for our survival, as it is today.
And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes that we might fear the LORD our God for our good always that he might give us life, as it is at this day.
25 I t will be righteousness for us if we are careful to observe all this commandment before the Lord our God, just as He commanded us.
And we shall have justice when we keep ourselves by doing all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us.
