1 T hen Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

¶ Then Jesus was led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

2 A nd after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry.

And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he was hungry.

3 A nd the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones be made into bread.

4 B ut He answered and said, “It is written, ‘ Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

5 T hen the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,

Then the devil took him up into the holy city and set him on a pinnacle of the temple

6 a nd said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, ‘ He will command His angels concerning You ’; and ‘ On their hands they will bear You up, So that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”

and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down, for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, and in their hands they shall bear thee up lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 J esus said to him, “ On the other hand, it is written, ‘ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 A gain, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory;

Again, the devil took him up into an exceeding high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them

9 a nd he said to Him, “ All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.”

and said unto him, All these things I will give thee if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 T hen Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘ You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’”

Then Jesus said unto him, Get thee hence, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

11 T hen the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him. Jesus Begins His Ministry

Then the devil left him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

12 N ow when Jesus heard that John had been taken into custody, He withdrew into Galilee;

¶ Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he returned to Galilee;

13 a nd leaving Nazareth, He came and settled in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.

and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali,

14 T his was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet:

that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles —

The land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;

16 The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light, And those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death, Upon them a Light dawned.”

the people who sat in darkness saw great light, and to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up.

17 F rom that time Jesus began to preach and say, “ Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” The First Disciples

From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens is at hand.

18 N ow as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

¶ And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon, called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers.

19 A nd He said to them, “ Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

And he said unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20 I mmediately they left their nets and followed Him.

And they straightway left their nets and followed him.

21 G oing on from there He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them.

And going on from there, he saw another two brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.

22 I mmediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him. Ministry in Galilee

And they immediately left the ship and their father and followed him.

23 J esus was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people.

¶ And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every sickness and every bodily weakness among the people.

24 T he news about Him spread throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics; and He healed them.

And his fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with diverse diseases and torments and those who were possessed with devils and those who were lunatic and those that were paralyzed; and he healed them.

25 L arge crowds followed Him from Galilee and the Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan.

And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, from Decapolis, from Jerusalem, from Judaea and from beyond Jordan.
