1 A nd Jehovah spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron,

2 T he children of Israel shall encamp every man by his own standard, with the ensigns of their fathers' houses: over against the tent of meeting shall they encamp round about.

“The people of Israel will set up their tents, each by his own flag and beside that of their fathers’. They will set up their tents to face the meeting tent on every side.

3 A nd those that encamp on the east side toward the sunrising shall be they of the standard of the camp of Judah, according to their hosts: and the prince of the children of Judah shall be Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

Those who stay in their tents on the east side toward the sunrise will have the flag of Judah by their armies. The leader of the people of Judah is Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

4 A nd his host, and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and fourteen thousand and six hundred.

The number of all his army is 74, 600.

5 A nd those that encamp next unto him shall be the tribe of Issachar: and the prince of the children of Issachar shall be Nethanel the son of Zuar.

The family of Issachar will set up their tents next to Judah. The leader of the people of Issachar is Nethanel the son of Zuar.

6 A nd his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were fifty and four thousand and four hundred.

The number of his army is 54, 400.

7 A nd the tribe of Zebulun: and the prince of the children of Zebulun shall be Eliab the son of Helon.

The family of Zebulun will be next. The leader of the people of Zebulun is Eliab the son of Helon.

8 A nd his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred.

The number of his army is 57, 400.

9 A ll that were numbered of the camp of Judah were a hundred thousand and fourscore thousand and six thousand and four hundred, according to their hosts. They shall set forth first.

The whole number among the tents of Judah is 186, 400, by their armies. They will be first to move on.

10 O n the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their hosts: and the prince of the children of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Shedeur.

“On the south side will be the tents of Reuben by their armies with their flags. The leader of the people of Reuben is Elizur the son of Shedeur.

11 A nd his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were forty and six thousand and five hundred.

The number of his army is 46, 500.

12 A nd those that encamp next unto him shall be the tribe of Simeon: and the prince of the children of Simeon shall be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

The family of Simeon will set up their tents next to him. The leader of the people of Simeon is Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

13 A nd his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred.

The number of his army is 59, 300.

14 A nd the tribe of Gad: and the prince of the children of Gad shall be Eliasaph the son of Reuel.

The family of Gad will be next. The leader of the people of Gad is Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

15 A nd his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty and five thousand and six hundred and fifty.

The number of his army is 45, 650.

16 A ll that were numbered of the camp of Reuben were a hundred thousand and fifty and one thousand and four hundred and fifty, according to their hosts. And they shall set forth second.

The whole number among the tents of Reuben is 151, 450 by their armies. They will be second to move on.

17 T hen the tent of meeting shall set forward, with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camps: as they encamp, so shall they set forward, every man in his place, by their standards.

“Then the meeting tent will go out with the Levites among the people. In the same way that they set up their tents, so they will leave to move on, every man in his place, by his flags.

18 O n the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their hosts: and the prince of the children of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud.

“On the west side will be the flag of the tents of Ephraim by their armies. The leader of the people of Ephraim is Elishama the son of Ammihud.

19 A nd his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty thousand and five hundred.

The number of his army is 40, 500.

20 A nd next unto him shall be the tribe of Manasseh: and the prince of the children of Manasseh shall be Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

The family of Manasseh will be next to him. The leader of the people of Manasseh is Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

21 A nd his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred.

The number of his army is 32, 200.

22 A nd the tribe of Benjamin: and the prince of the children of Benjamin shall be Abidan the son of Gideoni.

The family of Benjamin will be next. The leader of the people of Benjamin is Abidan the son of Gideoni.

23 A nd his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred.

The number of his army is 35, 400.

24 A ll that were numbered of the camp of Ephraim were a hundred thousand and eight thousand and a hundred, according to their hosts. And they shall set forth third.

The whole number among the tents of Ephraim is 108, 100, by their armies. They will be third to move on.

25 O n the north side shall be the standard of the camp of Dan according to their hosts: and the prince of the children of Dan shall be Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

“On the north side will be the flag of the tents of Dan by their armies. The leader of the people of Dan is Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

26 A nd his host, and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred.

The number of his army is 62, 700.

27 A nd those that encamp next unto him shall be the tribe of Asher: and the prince of the children of Asher shall be Pagiel the son of Ochran.

The family of Asher will set up their tents next to him. The leader of the people of Asher is Pagiel the son of Ochran.

28 A nd his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.

The number of his army is 41, 500.

29 A nd the tribe of Naphtali: and the prince of the children of Naphtali shall be Ahira the son of Enan.

The family of Naphtali will be next. The leader of the people of Naphtali is Ahira the son of Enan.

30 A nd his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

The number of his army is 53, 400.

31 A ll that were numbered of the camp of Dan were a hundred thousand and fifty and seven thousand and six hundred. They shall set forth hindmost by their standards.

The whole number among the tents of Dan is 157, 600. They will be last to move on with their flags.”

32 T hese are they that were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers' houses: all that were numbered of the camps according to their hosts were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

These are the numbers of the men of Israel by their fathers’ houses. The whole number among all the tents, by their armies, was 603, 550.

33 B ut the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel; as Jehovah commanded Moses.

But the Levites were not numbered with the people of Israel, just as the Lord had told Moses.

34 T hus did the children of Israel; according to all that Jehovah commanded Moses, so they encamped by their standards, and so they set forward, every one by their families, according to their fathers' houses.

So the people of Israel did all that the Lord had told Moses. They set up their tents by their flags. And they left to move on in the same way, every one by his family and by his father’s house.
