2 T he sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.

3 T he children of Amram were Aaron, Moses and Miriam. And the sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

The sons of Amram: Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. The sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

4 E leazar was the father of Phinehas. Phinehas was the father of Abishua.

Eleazar begat Phinehas, and Phinehas begat Abishua,

5 A bishua was the father of Bukki. Bukki was the father of Uzzi.

and Abishua begat Bukki, and Bukki begat Uzzi,

6 U zzi was the father of Zerahiah. Zerahiah was the father of Meraioth.

and Uzzi begat Zerahiah, and Zerahiah begat Meraioth,

7 M eraioth was the father of Amariah. Amariah was the father of Ahitub.

and Meraioth begat Amariah, and Amariah begat Ahitub,

8 A hitub was the father of Zadok. Zadok was the father of Ahimaaz.

and Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Ahimaaz,

9 A himaaz was the father of Azariah. Azariah was the father of Johanan.

and Ahimaaz begat Azariah, and Azariah begat Johanan,

10 J ohanan was the father of Azariah. (He was the one who served as the religious leader in the house which Solomon built in Jerusalem.)

and Johanan begat Azariah, who had the priesthood in the house that Solomon built in Jerusalem,

11 A zariah was the father of Amariah. Amariah was the father of Ahitub.

and Azariah begat Amariah, and Amariah begat Ahitub,

12 A hitub was the father of Zadok. Zadok was the father of Shallum.

and Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Shallum,

13 S hallum was the father of Hilkiah. Hilkiah was the father of Azariah.

and Shallum begat Hilkiah, and Hilkiah begat Azariah,

14 A zariah was the father of Seraiah. Seraiah was the father of Jehozadak.

and Azariah begat Seraiah, and Seraiah begat Jehozadak,

15 J ehozadak was taken away when the Lord carried Judah and Jerusalem away to a strange land by Nebuchadnezzar.

and Jehozadak went into captivity, when the LORD carried away Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.

16 T he sons of Levi were Gershom, Kohath and Merari.

17 T he names of the sons of Gershom were Libni and Shimei.

And these are the names of the sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei.

19 T he sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites by their fathers’ houses.

¶ And these are they whom David set over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after the ark had rest.

32 T hey led the singing in front of the meeting tent until Solomon had built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem. And they took their places for their work at the right times.

And they served before the tent of the tabernacle of the testimony with singing until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem, and then they remained in their ministry according to their right.

33 T hese are the men who served, and their sons. From the sons of the Kohathites were Heman the singer, the son of Joel, son of Samuel,

48 T heir brothers the Levites were chosen for all the work of the house of God. The Family of Aaron

Their brethren, also the Levites, were given over unto all the ministry of the tabernacle of the house of God.

49 B ut Aaron and his sons gave the gifts on the altar of burnt gifts and on the altar of special perfume. They did all the work of the most holy place, to pay for the sins of Israel. They did all that Moses the servant of God had told them to do.

But Aaron and his sons made incense upon the altar of the burnt offering and on the altar of incense, in all the work of the holy of holies, and to make reconciliation for Israel, according to all that Moses, the slave of God, had commanded.

50 T he sons of Aaron were Eleazar, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son,

54 T hese are the places where they lived in their lands. The sons of Aaron of the families of the Kohathites were first to choose where to live.

¶ Now these are their dwelling places throughout their palaces in their borders, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites; for theirs was the lot,

55 T hey were given Hebron in the land of Judah, and the fields around it.

that they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah and its suburbs round about it.

56 B ut the fields of the city and its towns were given to Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

But the fields around the city and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

57 T he sons of Aaron were given cities where people go to be safe. These cities were Hebron, Libnah with its fields, Jatir, Eshtemoa with its fields,

And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge of Judah, namely, Hebron and Libnah with their suburbs, and Jattir and Eshtemoa, with their suburbs,

58 H ilen with its fields, Debir with its fields,

and Hilen with her suburbs, Debir with her suburbs,

59 A shan with its fields, and Beth-shemesh with its fields.

and Ashan with her suburbs, and Bethshemesh with her suburbs.

60 F rom the family of Benjamin they were given Geba with its fields, Allemeth with its fields, and Anathoth with its fields. There were thirteen cities in all, by their families.

And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba with her suburbs and Alemeth with her suburbs and Anathoth with her suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.

61 T en cities were given, by drawing names, to the rest of the sons of Kohath. These cities were given from the families of the half-family group of Manasseh.

And unto the sons of Kohath, who were left of that family, they gave ten cities of the half tribe of Manasseh, by lot.

62 T hirteen cities were given to the sons of Gershom, by their families. These cities were given from the families of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Manasseh.

And to the sons of Gershon, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Issachar and out of the tribe of Asher and out of the tribe of Naphtali and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.

63 T welve cities were given, by drawing names, to the sons of Merari, by their families. These cities were given from the families of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.

Unto the sons of Merari were given by lot, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Reuben and out of the tribe of Gad and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

64 S o the people of Israel gave to the Levites the cities with their fields.

And the sons of Israel gave to the Levites these cities with their suburbs.

65 B y drawing names, they gave them these cities which are written here, from the families of the sons of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.

And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the sons of Judah and out of the tribe of the sons of Simeon and out of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin, these cities, which are called by their names.

66 S ome of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their land from the family of Ephraim.

And the residue of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities with their borders out of the tribe of Ephraim.

67 T hey were given cities where anyone could go to be safe. These cities were Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim with its fields, Gezer with its fields,

And they gave unto them, of the cities of refuge, Shechem in Mount Ephraim with her suburbs; they gave also Gezer with her suburbs,

68 J okmeam with its fields, Beth-horon with its fields,

and Jokmeam with her suburbs and Bethhoron with her suburbs,

69 A ijalon with its fields, and Gath-rimmon with its fields.

and Aijalon with her suburbs and Gathrimmon with her suburbs.

70 F rom the half-family group of Manasseh they were given Aner with its fields and Bileam with its fields. They were for the rest of the family of the sons of Kohath.

And out of the half tribe of Manasseh; Aner with her suburbs and Bileam with her suburbs, for the family of the remnant of the sons of Kohath.

71 C ities were given to the sons of Gershom from the half-family group of Manasseh. These cities were Golan in Bashan with its fields and Ashtaroth with its fields.

Unto the sons of Gershon were given out of the family of the half tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with her suburbs and Ashtaroth with her suburbs;

72 F rom the family of Issachar they were given Kedesh with its fields, Daberath with its fields,

and out of the tribe of Issachar; Kedesh with her suburbs, Daberath with her suburbs,

73 R amoth with its fields, and Anem with its fields.

and Ramoth with her suburbs, and Anem with her suburbs;

74 F rom the family of Asher they were given Mashal with its fields, Abdon with its fields,

and out of the tribe of Asher, Mashal with her suburbs and Abdon with her suburbs

75 H ukok with its fields, and Rehob with its fields.

and Hukok with her suburbs and Rehob with her suburbs.

76 F rom the family of Naphtali they were given Kedesh in Galilee with its fields, Hammon with its fields, and Kiriathaim with its fields.

And out of the tribe of Naphtali; Kedesh in Galilee with her suburbs and Hammon with her suburbs and Kirjathaim with her suburbs.

77 T he rest of the Levites, the sons of Merari were given cities from the family of Zebulun. These cities were Rimmono with its fields and Tabor with its fields.

Unto the rest of the sons of Merari were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmon with her suburbs, Tabor with her suburbs;

78 O n the other side of the Jordan at Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, they were given cities from the family of Reuben. These cities were Bezer in the desert with its fields, Jahzah with its fields,

and on the other side of the Jordan by Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, were given them out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness with her suburbs and Jahzah with her suburbs,

79 K edemoth with its fields, and Mephaath with its fields.

Kedemoth also with her suburbs and Mephaath with her suburbs;

80 F rom the family of Gad they were given Ramoth in Gilead with its fields, Mahanaim with its fields,

and out of the tribe of Gad; Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs and Mahanaim with her suburbs,

81 H eshbon with its fields, and Jazer with its fields.
