1 Take from among the people of Israel your brother Aaron and his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, to work for Me as religious leaders.

¶ And cause Aaron, thy brother, to come unto thee with his sons, from among the sons of Israel, that they may be my priests, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.

2 M ake holy clothing for your brother Aaron, for honor and for beauty.

And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron, thy brother, for honour and for beauty.

3 T ell all the able workmen, whom I have given the spirit of wisdom, to make Aaron’s clothing to set him apart for My work. He will work for Me as a religious leader.

And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise-hearted, whom I have filled with the Spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to sanctify him, that he may be my priest.

4 T hese are the clothes they will make: A breast-piece, a linen vest, a long piece of clothing, a long coat, a head-covering, and a wide belt. They will make holy clothing for your brother Aaron and his sons to work for Me as religious leaders.

And these are the garments which they shall make: the pectoral, the ephod, the robe, the broidered coat, the mitre, and the girdle. Therefore let them make the holy garments for Aaron, thy brother, and his sons, that they may be my priests.

5 T hey will use gold and blue and purple and red cloth and fine linen. The Linen Vest

And they shall take gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and fine linen,

6 They will use gold and blue, purple and red cloth and fine linen to make the linen vest that holds the breast-piece. It will be the work of the able workman.

¶ and they shall make the ephod of gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen, with cunning work.

7 I t will have two shoulder pieces to join it at the two ends.

It shall have its two shoulderpieces joined at the two edges thereof, and so it shall be joined together.

8 T he well-made belt on it will be made of the same gold and blue, purple and red cloth and fine linen.

And the special girdle of the ephod, which shall be over it, shall be of its same workmanship, of the same materials: of gold, blue, purple, scarlet and fine twined linen.

9 T ake two onyx stones and cut on them the names of Israel’s sons.

And thou shalt take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel:

10 P ut six of their names on one stone, and the six names of the others on the other stone, from the oldest to the youngest.

Six of their names on one stone and the other six names of the rest on the other stone, according to their birth.

11 A s an able workman cuts words in a ring, cut the names of Israel’s sons on the two stones. Then set them into beautiful pieces of gold.

With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a seal, shalt thou engrave those two stones with the names of the sons of Israel; thou shalt make them to be set in settings of gold.

12 P ut the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the linen vest, as stones for the family groups of Israel to be remembered. Aaron will carry their names on his two shoulders before the Lord, to be remembered.

And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the sons of Israel, and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.

13 M ake beautiful pieces of gold

And thou shalt make the settings of gold

14 a nd two chains of pure gold. Make them like ropes are made. And put the chains on the pieces of gold. The Breast-Piece

and two small chains of pure gold; of wreathen work shalt thou make them and fasten the wreathen chains to the settings.

15 Make a breast-piece to be used when judging. It is to be made by an able workman. Make it like the work of the linen vest, of gold, and blue, purple and red cloth and fine linen.

¶ And in the same manner thou shalt make the pectoral of judgment with cunning work; after the work of the ephod thou shalt make it, of gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and of fine twined linen.

16 I t will be as long as it is wide, with one half laid over the other. Make it as long and as wide as a man’s fingers can spread.

It shall be square and double; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof.

17 P ut four straight rows of stones on it. The first row will be a ruby, a topaz and an emerald.

And thou shalt fill it with four rows of stones; The order shall be a ruby, an emerald, and a chrysolite; this shall be the first order.

18 T he second row will be a turquoise, a sapphire and a diamond.

And the second order shall be a carbuncle, a sapphire, and a diamond.

19 T he third row will be a jacinth, an agate and an amethyst.

And the third order, a topaz, a turquoise, and an amethyst.

20 A nd the fourth row will be a beryl, an onyx and a jasper. They will be set in beautiful pieces of gold.

And the fourth row a tarshish (or beryl) and an onyx and a jasper; they shall be set in gold in their inclosings.

21 T here will be twelve stones, one for each name of the sons of Israel. The name of each family group will be cut on one of these special stones.

And those stones shall be in agreement with the names of the sons of Israel, twelve, in agreement with their names; each one in agreement with his name like the engravings of a seal; they shall be according to the twelve tribes.

22 M ake chains for the breast-piece, like ropes of pure gold.

And thou shalt also make upon the pectoral small chains of wreathen work of pure gold.

23 A nd make two rings of gold and put them on the two ends of the breast-piece.

And thou shalt make upon the pectoral two rings of gold and shalt put the two rings on the two ends of the pectoral.

24 J oin the two gold chains to the two rings at the ends of the breast-piece.

And thou shalt put the two wreathen chains of gold in the two rings which are on the ends of the pectoral.

25 J oin the other two ends of the two chains to the beautiful gold pieces that hold the two stones at the shoulders in the front.

And the other two ends of the two wreathen chains thou shalt fasten in the two settings and put them on the shoulderpieces of the ephod on the front of it.

26 M ake two rings of gold to put on the two ends of the breast-piece, on the inside, next to the linen vest.

Thou shalt also make two rings of gold, and thou shalt put them upon the two ends of the pectoral in the border thereof, which is in the side of the ephod inward.

27 T hen make two rings of gold and put them on the bottom of the two shoulder pieces of the linen vest in front, near where they join. They will be above the well-made belt of the linen vest.

Likewise two other rings of gold thou shalt make and shalt put them on the two sides of the ephod underneath, toward the front part thereof, over against the other coupling thereof, above the special girdle of the ephod.

28 T ie the rings of the breast-piece to the rings of the linen vest with a blue rope so the breast-piece may not come loose from the linen vest.

And they shall bind the pectoral by its rings unto the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it may be above the special girdle of the ephod and that the pectoral not be loosed from the ephod.

29 Aaron will carry the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breast-piece of judging when he goes in the holy place, so they will be remembered before the Lord all the time. Other Religious Leaders’ Clothes

And Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the pectoral of judgment upon his heart when he goes in unto the sanctuary for a memorial before the LORD continually.

30 Put the Urim and the Thummim into the breast-piece over Aaron’s heart when he goes before the Lord. Aaron will carry the judging of the people of Israel over his heart before the Lord all the time.

And thou shalt put in the pectoral of judgment Urim and Thummim, that they shall be upon Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the LORD; and Aaron shall always bear the judgment of the sons of Israel upon his heart before the LORD.

31 Make the long piece of clothing all of blue.

¶ And thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue.

32 T here will be an opening at its top in the center. Around the opening it will be sewed like the opening on heavy battle clothes, so it may not be torn.

And it shall have the collar of his head in the midst thereof, which shall have a binding of woven work round about it, as the collar of a habergeon, that it not be rent.

33 M ake pomegranates of blue and purple and red cloth to put all around the bottom of this clothing. And put bells of gold between them.

And beneath upon the hem of it, thou shalt make pomegranates of blue and of purple and of scarlet round about the hem thereof and bells of gold between them round about.

34 P ut a gold bell and a pomegranate, then a gold bell and a pomegranate, all the way around the bottom of this clothing.

A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate upon the hem of the robe round about.

35 A aron will wear it when he serves Me. The sound of the bells will be heard when he goes in the holy place and when he comes out so that he will not die.

And it shall be upon Aaron to minister, and his sound shall be heard when he goes in unto the sanctuary before the LORD and when he comes out, that he not die.

36 Make a plate of pure gold and write on it, ‘Holy to the Lord.’

Thou shalt also make an open flower of pure gold and engrave upon it the engravings of a seal, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD.

37 P ut it to the front of the head covering with a blue rope.

And thou shalt put it on with a blue lace that it may be upon the mitre; upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be.

38 I t will be on Aaron’s forehead. Aaron will take away the sin of the holy things which the people of Israel set apart for the Lord as their holy gifts. It will always be on his forehead, so they may be received by the Lord.

And it shall be upon Aaron’s forehead that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the sons of Israel shall sanctify in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead that they may find grace before the LORD.

39 M ake the long coat of fine linen, a head covering of fine linen, and a wide belt, the work of an able workman.

And thou shalt embroider the coat of fine linen, and thou shalt make the mitre of fine linen, and thou shalt make the girdle of needlework.

40 Make long coats for Aaron’s sons. And make belts and head coverings for them, for honor and for beauty.

¶ And for Aaron’s sons thou shalt make coats; thou shalt also make girdles for them, and tiaras shalt thou make for them, for honour and for beauty.

41 D ress your brother Aaron and his sons in them. Then pour oil on them, set them apart and make them holy, so they may serve Me as religious leaders.

And with these thou shalt clothe Aaron, thy brother, and his sons with him and shalt anoint them and fill their hands and sanctify them that they may be my priests.

42 M ake for them linen clothing to cover their flesh from their belts to their legs.

And thou shalt make them linen underwear to cover their nakedness; they shall reach from the loins even unto the thighs;

43 A aron and his sons will wear them when they go into the meeting tent, or when they go near the altar to serve in the holy place. Then they will not be guilty and die. It will be a law for him and for his children forever.

And they shall be upon Aaron and upon his sons when they enter into the tabernacle of the testimony or when they come near unto the altar to serve in the sanctuary that they not bear iniquity and die: This shall be a perpetual statute unto him and his seed after him.
