1 T o the Overseer. -- `On the Lilies.' -- By sons of Korah. -- An Instruction. -- A song of loves. My heart hath indited a good thing, I am telling my works to a king, My tongue the pen of a speedy writer.

My heart overflows with a good theme; I address my verses to the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

2 T hou hast been beautified above the sons of men, Grace hath been poured into thy lips, Therefore hath God blessed thee to the age.

You are fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever.

3 G ird Thy sword upon the thigh, O mighty, Thy glory and Thy majesty!

Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O Mighty One, In Your splendor and Your majesty!

4 A s to Thy majesty -- prosper! -- ride! Because of truth, and meekness -- righteousness, And Thy right hand showeth Thee fearful things.

And in Your majesty ride on victoriously, For the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; Let Your right hand teach You awesome things.

5 T hine arrows sharp, -- Peoples fall under Thee -- In the heart of the enemies of the king.

Your arrows are sharp; The peoples fall under You; Your arrows are in the heart of the King’s enemies.

6 T hy throne, O God, age-during, and for ever, A sceptre of uprightness the sceptre of Thy kingdom.

Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom.

7 T hou hast loved righteousness and hatest wickedness, Therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee, Oil of joy above thy companions.

You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of joy above Your fellows.

8 M yrrh and aloes, cassia! all thy garments, Out of palaces of ivory Stringed instruments have made thee glad.

All Your garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; Out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made You glad.

9 D aughters of kings among thy precious ones, A queen hath stood at thy right hand, In pure gold of Ophir.

Kings’ daughters are among Your noble ladies; At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.

10 H earken, O daughter, and see, incline thine ear, And forget thy people, and thy father's house,

Listen, O daughter, give attention and incline your ear: Forget your people and your father’s house;

11 A nd the king doth desire thy beauty, Because he thy lord -- bow thyself to him,

Then the King will desire your beauty. Because He is your Lord, bow down to Him.

12 A nd the daughter of Tyre with a present, The rich of the people do appease thy face.

The daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; The rich among the people will seek your favor.

13 A ll glory the daughter of the king within, Of gold-embroidered work her clothing.

The King’s daughter is all glorious within; Her clothing is interwoven with gold.

14 I n divers colours she is brought to the king, Virgins -- after her -- her companions, Are brought to thee.

She will be led to the King in embroidered work; The virgins, her companions who follow her, Will be brought to You.

15 T hey are brought with joy and gladness, They come into the palace of the king.

They will be led forth with gladness and rejoicing; They will enter into the King’s palace.

16 I nstead of thy fathers are thy sons, Thou dost appoint them for princes in all the earth.

In place of your fathers will be your sons; You shall make them princes in all the earth.

17 I make mention of Thy name in all generations, Therefore do peoples praise Thee, To the age, and for ever!

I will cause Your name to be remembered in all generations; Therefore the peoples will give You thanks forever and ever.
