1 T hen singeth Moses and the sons of Israel this song to Jehovah, and they speak, saying: -- `I sing to Jehovah, For triumphing He hath triumphed; The horse and its rider He hath thrown into the sea.

Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and said, “ I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted; The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.

2 M y strength and song is Jah, And He is become my salvation: This my God, and I glorify Him; God of my father, and I exalt Him.

“ The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; This is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will extol Him.

3 J ehovah a man of battle; Jehovah His name.

“ The Lord is a warrior; The Lord is His name.

4 C hariots of Pharaoh and his force He hath cast into the sea; And the choice of his captains Have sunk in the Red Sea!

“ Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; And the choicest of his officers are drowned in the Red Sea.

5 T he depths do cover them; They went down into the depths as a stone.

“The deeps cover them; They went down into the depths like a stone.

6 T hy right hand, O Jehovah, Is become honourable in power; Thy right hand, O Jehovah, Doth crush an enemy.

“ Your right hand, O Lord, is majestic in power, Your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.

7 A nd in the abundance of Thine excellency Thou throwest down Thy withstanders, Thou sendest forth Thy wrath -- It consumeth them as stubble.

“And in the greatness of Your excellence You overthrow those who rise up against You; You send forth Your burning anger, and it consumes them as chaff.

8 A nd by the spirit of Thine anger Have waters been heaped together; Stood as a heap have flowings; Congealed have been depths In the heart of a sea.

“ At the blast of Your nostrils the waters were piled up, The flowing waters stood up like a heap; The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 T he enemy said, I pursue, I overtake; I apportion spoil; Filled is my soul with them; I draw out my sword; My hand destroyeth them: --

“ The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be gratified against them; I will draw out my sword, my hand will destroy them.’

10 T hou hast blown with Thy wind The sea hath covered them; They sank as lead in mighty waters.

“ You blew with Your wind, the sea covered them; They sank like lead in the mighty waters.

11 W ho like Thee among the gods, O Jehovah? Who like Thee -- honourable in holiness -- Fearful in praises -- doing wonders?

“ Who is like You among the gods, O Lord ? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, Awesome in praises, working wonders?

12 T hou hast stretched out Thy right hand -- Earth swalloweth them!

“ You stretched out Your right hand, The earth swallowed them.

13 T hou hast led forth in Thy kindness The people whom Thou hast redeemed. Thou hast led on in Thy strength Unto Thy holy habitation.

“In Your lovingkindness You have led the people whom You have redeemed; In Your strength You have guided them to Your holy habitation.

14 P eoples have heard, they are troubled; Pain hath seized inhabitants of Philistia.

“ The peoples have heard, they tremble; Anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia.

15 T hen have chiefs of Edom been troubled: Mighty ones of Moab -- Trembling doth seize them! Melted have all inhabitants of Canaan!

“Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; The leaders of Moab, trembling grips them; All the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.

16 F all on them doth terror and dread; By the greatness of Thine arm They are still as a stone, Till Thy people pass over, O Jehovah; Till the people pass over Whom Thou hast purchased.

“ Terror and dread fall upon them; By the greatness of Your arm they are motionless as stone; Until Your people pass over, O Lord, Until the people pass over whom You have purchased.

17 T hou dost bring them in, And dost plant them In a mountain of Thine inheritance, A fixed place for Thy dwelling Thou hast made, O Jehovah; A sanctuary, O Lord, Thy hands have established;

“ You will bring them and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance, The place, O Lord, which You have made for Your dwelling, The sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.

18 J ehovah reigneth -- to the age, and for ever!'

“ The Lord shall reign forever and ever.”

19 F or the horse of Pharaoh hath gone in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Jehovah turneth back on them the waters of the sea, and the sons of Israel have gone on dry land in the midst of the sea.

For the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, and the Lord brought back the waters of the sea on them, but the sons of Israel walked on dry land through the midst of the sea.

20 A nd Miriam the inspired one, sister of Aaron, taketh the timbrel in her hand, and all the women go out after her, with timbrels and with choruses;

Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took the timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dancing.

21 a nd Miriam answereth to them: -- `Sing ye to Jehovah, For Triumphing He hath triumphed; The horse and its rider He hath thrown into the sea!'

Miriam answered them, “ Sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted; The horse and his rider He has hurled into the sea.” The Lord Provides Water

22 A nd Moses causeth Israel to journey from the Red Sea, and they go out unto the wilderness of Shur, and they go three days in the wilderness, and have not found water,

Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness and found no water.

23 a nd they come in to Marah, and have not been able to drink the waters of Marah, for they bitter; therefore hath called its name Marah.

When they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore it was named Marah.

24 A nd the people murmur against Moses, saying, `What do we drink?'

So the people grumbled at Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”

25 a nd he crieth unto Jehovah, and Jehovah sheweth him a tree, and he casteth unto the waters, and the waters become sweet. There He hath made for them a statute, and an ordinance, and there He hath tried them,

Then he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet. There He made for them a statute and regulation, and there He tested them.

26 a nd He saith, `If thou dost really hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and dost that which is right in His eyes, and hast hearkened to His commands, and kept all His statutes: none of the sickness which I laid on the Egyptians do I lay on thee, for I, Jehovah, am healing thee.

And He said, “ If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer.”

27 A nd they come to Elim, and there twelve fountains of water, and seventy palm trees; and they encamp there by the waters.

Then they came to Elim where there were twelve springs of water and seventy date palms, and they camped there beside the waters.
