1 A nd after six days Jesus taketh Peter, and James, and John his brother, and doth bring them up to a high mount by themselves,

Six days later Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves.

2 a nd he was transfigured before them, and his face shone as the sun, and his garments did become white as the light,

And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.

3 a nd lo, appear to them did Moses and Elijah, talking together with him.

And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

4 A nd Peter answering said to Jesus, `Sir, it is good to us to be here; if thou wilt, we may make here three booths -- for thee one, and for Moses one, and one for Elijah.'

Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, I will make three tabernacles here, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

5 W hile he is yet speaking, lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying, `This is My Son, -- the Beloved, in whom I did delight; hear him.'

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “ This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”

6 A nd the disciples having heard, did fall upon their face, and were exceedingly afraid,

When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground and were terrified.

7 a nd Jesus having come near, touched them, and said, `Rise, be not afraid,'

And Jesus came to them and touched them and said, “Get up, and do not be afraid.”

8 a nd having lifted up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus only.

And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus Himself alone.

9 A nd as they are coming down from the mount, Jesus charged them, saying, `Say to no one the vision, till the Son of Man out of the dead may rise.'

As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “ Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”

10 A nd his disciples questioned him, saying, `Why then do the scribes say that Elijah it behoveth to come first?'

And His disciples asked Him, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

11 A nd Jesus answering said to them, `Elijah doth indeed come first, and shall restore all things,

And He answered and said, “Elijah is coming and will restore all things;

12 a nd I say to you -- Elijah did already come, and they did not know him, but did with him whatever they would, so also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them.'

but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wished. So also the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”

14 A nd when they came unto the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling down to him,

When they came to the crowd, a man came up to Jesus, falling on his knees before Him and saying,

15 a nd saying, `Sir, deal kindly with my son, for he is lunatic, and doth suffer miserably, for often he doth fall into the fire, and often into the water,

“ Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is a lunatic and is very ill; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.

16 a nd I brought him near to thy disciples, and they were not able to heal him.'

I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him.”

17 A nd Jesus answering said, `O generation, unstedfast and perverse, till when shall I be with you? till when shall I bear you? bring him to me hither;'

And Jesus answered and said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”

18 a nd Jesus rebuked him, and the demon went out of him, and the lad was healed from that hour.

And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured at once.

19 T hen the disciples having come to Jesus by himself, said, `Wherefore were we not able to cast him out?'

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not drive it out?”

20 A nd Jesus said to them, `Through your want of faith; for verily I say to you, if ye may have faith as a grain of mustard, ye shall say to this mount, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible to you,

And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

21 a nd this kind doth not go forth except in prayer and fasting.'

'> But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” ]

22 A nd while they are living in Galilee, Jesus said to them, `The Son of Man is about to be delivered up to the hands of men,

And while they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men;

23 a nd they shall kill him, and the third day he shall rise,' and they were exceeding sorry.

and they will kill Him, and He will be raised on the third day.” And they were deeply grieved. The Tribute Money

When they came to Capernaum, those who collected the two-drachma tax came to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay the two-drachma tax ?”

25 A nd when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, `What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth -- from whom do they receive custom or poll-tax? from their sons or from the strangers?'

He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs or poll-tax, from their sons or from strangers?”

26 P eter saith to him, `From the strangers.' Jesus said to him, `Then are the sons free;

When Peter said, “From strangers,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are exempt.

27 b ut, that we may not cause them to stumble, having gone to the sea, cast a hook, and the fish that hath come up first take thou up, and having opened its mouth, thou shalt find a stater, that having taken, give to them for me and thee.'

However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for you and Me.”
