1 M y son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

Hijo mío, si salieres fiador por tu amigo, Si has empeñado tu palabra a un extraño,

2 T hou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

Te has enlazado con las palabras de tu boca, Y has quedado preso en los dichos de tus labios.

3 D o this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

Haz esto ahora, hijo mío, y líbrate, Ya que has caído en la mano de tu prójimo; Ve, humíllate, y asegúrate de tu amigo.

4 G ive not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

No des sueño a tus ojos, Ni a tus párpados adormecimiento;

5 D eliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Escápate como gacela de la mano del cazador, Y como ave de la mano del que arma lazos.

6 G o to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

Ve a la hormiga, oh perezoso, Mira sus caminos, y sé sabio;

7 W hich having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

La cual no teniendo capitán, Ni gobernador, ni señor,

8 P rovideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

Prepara en el verano su comida, Y recoge en el tiempo de la siega su mantenimiento.

9 H ow long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

Perezoso, ¿hasta cuándo has de dormir? ¿Cuándo te levantarás de tu sueño?

10 Y et a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

Un poco de sueño, un poco de dormitar, Y cruzar por un poco las manos para reposo;

11 S o shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Así vendrá tu necesidad como caminante, Y tu pobreza como hombre armado.

12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

El hombre malo, el hombre depravado, Es el que anda en perversidad de boca;

13 H e winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

Que guiña los ojos, que habla con los pies, Que hace señas con los dedos.

14 F rowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

Perversidades hay en su corazón; anda pensando el mal en todo tiempo; Siembra las discordias.

15 T herefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

Por tanto, su calamidad vendrá de repente; Súbitamente será quebrantado, y no habrá remedio.

16 T hese six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

Seis cosas aborrece Jehová, Y aun siete abomina su alma:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

Los ojos altivos, la lengua mentirosa, Las manos derramadoras de sangre inocente,

18 A n heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

El corazón que maquina pensamientos inicuos, Los pies presurosos para correr al mal,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

El testigo falso que habla mentiras, Y el que siembra discordia entre hermanos. Amonestación contra el adulterio

20 M y son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Guarda, hijo mío, el mandamiento de tu padre, Y no dejes la enseñanza de tu madre;

21 B ind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

Atalos siempre en tu corazón, Enlázalos a tu cuello.

22 W hen thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

Te guiarán cuando andes; cuando duermas te guardarán; Hablarán contigo cuando despiertes.

23 F or the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Porque el mandamiento es lámpara, y la enseñanza es luz, Y camino de vida las reprensiones que te instruyen,

24 T o keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

Para que te guarden de la mala mujer, De la blandura de la lengua de la mujer extraña.

25 L ust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

No codicies su hermosura en tu corazón, Ni ella te prenda con sus ojos;

26 F or by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.

Porque a causa de la mujer ramera el hombre es reducido a un bocado de pan; Y la mujer caza la preciosa alma del varón.

27 C an a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

¿Tomará el hombre fuego en su seno Sin que sus vestidos ardan?

28 C an one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

¿Andará el hombre sobre brasas Sin que sus pies se quemen?

29 S o he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

Así es el que se llega a la mujer de su prójimo; No quedará impune ninguno que la tocare.

30 M en do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

No tienen en poco al ladrón si hurta Para saciar su apetito cuando tiene hambre;

31 B ut if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

Pero si es sorprendido, pagará siete veces; Entregará todo el haber de su casa.

32 B ut whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

Mas el que comete adulterio es falto de entendimiento; Corrompe su alma el que tal hace.

33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

Heridas y verg: uenza hallará, Y su afrenta nunca será borrada.

34 F or jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

Porque los celos son el furor del hombre, Y no perdonará en el día de la venganza.

35 H e will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

No aceptará ningún rescate, Ni querrá perdonar, aunque multipliques los dones.
