1 W herefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

2 B ehold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.

He aquí yo abriré ahora mi boca, Y mi lengua hablará en mi garganta.

3 M y words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

Mis razones declararán la rectitud de mi corazón, Y lo que saben mis labios, lo hablarán con sinceridad.

4 T he spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

El espíritu de Dios me hizo, Y el soplo del Omnipotente me dio vida.

5 I f thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.

Respóndeme si puedes; Ordena tus palabras, ponte en pie.

6 B ehold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.

Heme aquí a mí en lugar de Dios, conforme a tu dicho; De barro fui yo también formado.

7 B ehold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.

He aquí, mi terror no te espantará, Ni mi mano se agravará sobre ti.

8 S urely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,

De cierto tú dijiste a oídos míos, Y yo oí la voz de tus palabras que decían:

9 I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

Yo soy limpio y sin defecto; Soy inocente, y no hay maldad en mí.

10 B ehold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,

He aquí que él buscó reproches contra mí, Y me tiene por su enemigo;

11 H e putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.

Puso mis pies en el cepo, Y vigiló todas mis sendas.

12 B ehold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

He aquí, en esto no has hablado justamente; Yo te responderé que mayor es Dios que el hombre.

13 W hy dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

¿Por qué contiendes contra él? Porque él no da cuenta de ninguna de sus razones.

14 F or God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.

Sin embargo, en una o en dos maneras habla Dios; Pero el hombre no entiende.

15 I n a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

Por sueño, en visión nocturna, Cuando el sueño cae sobre los hombres, Cuando se adormecen sobre el lecho,

16 T hen he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

Entonces revela al oído de los hombres, Y les señala su consejo,

17 T hat he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

Para quitar al hombre de su obra, Y apartar del varón la soberbia.

18 H e keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

Detendrá su alma del sepulcro, Y su vida de que perezca a espada.

19 H e is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:

También sobre su cama es castigado Con dolor fuerte en todos sus huesos,

20 S o that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.

Que le hace que su vida aborrezca el pan, Y su alma la comida suave.

21 H is flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.

Su carne desfallece, de manera que no se ve, Y sus huesos, que antes no se veían, aparecen.

22 Y ea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

Su alma se acerca al sepulcro, Y su vida a los que causan la muerte.

23 I f there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:

Si tuviese cerca de él Algún elocuente mediador muy escogido, Que anuncie al hombre su deber;

24 T hen he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

Que le diga que Dios tuvo de él misericordia, Que lo libró de descender al sepulcro, Que halló redención;

25 H is flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:

Su carne será más tierna que la del niño, Volverá a los días de su juventud.

26 H e shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.

Orará a Dios, y éste le amará, Y verá su faz con júbilo; Y restaurará al hombre su justicia.

27 H e looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

El mira sobre los hombres; y al que dijere: Pequé, y pervertí lo recto, Y no me ha aprovechado,

28 H e will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

Dios redimirá su alma para que no pase al sepulcro, Y su vida se verá en luz.

29 L o, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,

He aquí, todas estas cosas hace Dios Dos y tres veces con el hombre,

30 T o bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

Para apartar su alma del sepulcro, Y para iluminarlo con la luz de los vivientes.

31 M ark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.

Escucha, Job, y óyeme; Calla, y yo hablaré.

32 I f thou hast anything to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.

Si tienes razones, respóndeme; Habla, porque yo te quiero justificar.

33 I f not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.

Y si no, óyeme tú a mí; Calla, y te enseñaré sabiduría.
