1 B ấy giờ An-ne cầu nguyện mà rằng: Đức Giê-hô-va khiến lòng tôi khấp khởi vui mừng, Và đỡ cho mặt tôi ngước lên. Miệng tôi thách đố kẻ thù nghịch tôi; Vì sự chửng cứu Ngài làm cho tôi đầy khoái lạc.

Then Hannah prayed and said, “My heart exults in the Lord; My horn is exalted in the Lord, My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation.

2 C hẳng ai thánh như Đức Giê-hô-va; Chẳng có Chúa nào khác hơn Ngài! Không có hòn đá nào như Đức Chúa Trời của chúng ta.

“ There is no one holy like the Lord, Indeed, there is no one besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.

3 T hôi, chớ nói những lời kiêu ngạo, Chớ để những lời xấc xược ra từ miệng các ngươi nữa; Vì Giê-hô-va là Đức Chúa Trời thông biết mọi điều, Ngài cân nhắc mọi việc làm của người.

“ Boast no more so very proudly, Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; For the Lord is a God of knowledge, And with Him actions are weighed.

4 C ây cung của kẻ dõng sĩ đã gãy, Còn người yếu mòn thắt lưng bằng sức lực.

“ The bows of the mighty are shattered, But the feeble gird on strength.

5 K ẻ vốn no nê phải làm mướn đặng kiếm ăn, Và người xưa đói đã được no nê, Người đờn bà vốn son sẻ, sanh sản bảy lần, Còn người có nhiều con, ra yếu mỏn.

“Those who were full hire themselves out for bread, But those who were hungry cease to hunger. Even the barren gives birth to seven, But she who has many children languishes.

6 Đ ức Giê-hô-va khiến cho chết, cho sống; Ngài đem người xuống mồ mả, Rồi khiến lại lên khỏi đó.

“ The Lord kills and makes alive; He brings down to Sheol and raises up.

7 Đ ức Giê-hô-va làm cho nghèo nàn, và làm cho giàu có; Ngài hạ người xuống, lại nhắc người lên, Đem kẻ khốn cùng ra khỏi bụi đất, Và rút người nghèo khổ ra ngoài đống phân, Đặng để họ ngồi bên các quan trưởng, Cùng ban cho một ngôi vinh hiển làm cơ nghiệp;

“ The Lord makes poor and rich; He brings low, He also exalts.

8 V ì các trụ của trái đất thuộc về Đức Giê-hô-va: Ngài đã đặt thế gian ở trên đó.

“ He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap To make them sit with nobles, And inherit a seat of honor; For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, And He set the world on them.

9 Đ ức Giê-hô-va sẽ giữ chơn của các thánh Ngài; Còn những kẻ ác sẽ bị hư mất nơi tăm tối; Vì chẳng do sức riêng mình mà người nào được thắng.

“ He keeps the feet of His godly ones, But the wicked ones are silenced in darkness; For not by might shall a man prevail.

10 K ẻ nào chống cãi Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ bị phá tan! Từ trên trời cao, Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ sấm sét cùng chúng nó. Ngài sẽ đoán xét bốn phương của đất, Ban thế lực cho vua Ngài, Và làm cho quyền năng Đấng chịu xức dầu của Ngài ra lớn.

“ Those who contend with the Lord will be shattered; Against them He will thunder in the heavens, The Lord will judge the ends of the earth; And He will give strength to His king, And will exalt the horn of His anointed.”

Then Elkanah went to his home at Ramah. But the boy ministered to the Lord before Eli the priest. The Sin of Eli’s Sons

Now the sons of Eli were worthless men; they did not know the Lord

13 C ác thầy tế lễ thường đãi dân sự như vầy: Phàm khi có ai dâng của lễ, thì tôi tớ thầy tế lễ đến lúc người ta nấu thịt, tay cầm chĩa ba,

and the custom of the priests with the people. When any man was offering a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come while the meat was boiling, with a three-pronged fork in his hand.

14 c hích vào hoặc trong cái vạc, cái chảo, cái nồi, hay là trong chảo nhỏ. Hễ món nào dính chĩa ba, thì thầy tế lễ bèn lấy. Đó là cách họ đối với hết thảy dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đến Si-lô.

Then he would thrust it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. Thus they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.

15 L ại trước khi xông mỡ, kẻ tôi tớ thầy tế lễ cũng đến nói cùng người dâng của lễ rằng: Hãy đưa thịt để nướng cho thầy tế lễ; người không nhậm thịt luộc của ngươi, nhưng chỉ nhậm thịt sống mà thôi.

Also, before they burned the fat, the priest’s servant would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, “Give the priest meat for roasting, as he will not take boiled meat from you, only raw.”

16 V í bằng người đó đáp rằng; Người ta sẽ xông mỡ, kế sau sẽ lấy phần chi đẹp ý ngươi, thì kẻ tôi tớ đó nói: Không, người phải cho tức thì, bằng không, ta sẽ giựt lấy.

If the man said to him, “They must surely burn the fat first, and then take as much as you desire,” then he would say, “No, but you shall give it to me now; and if not, I will take it by force.”

17 T ội lỗi của hai người trai trẻ nầy lấy làm rất lớn trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va; vì họ gây cho người ta khinh bỉ các của tế lễ dâng cho Đức Giê-hô-va.

Thus the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord, for the men despised the offering of the Lord. Samuel before the Lord as a Boy

18 C òn Sa-mu-ên phục sự trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va. Người hãy còn thơ ấu, thắt lưng một cái ê-phót bằng vải gai.

Now Samuel was ministering before the Lord, as a boy wearing a linen ephod.

19 M ỗi năm, mẹ người may cho một cái áo dài nhỏ, đem ban cho người trong khi lên với chồng đặng dâng của lễ hằng năm.

And his mother would make him a little robe and bring it to him from year to year when she would come up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

20 H ê-li chúc phước cho E

Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, “May the Lord give you children from this woman in place of the one she dedicated to the Lord.” And they went to their own home.

21 Đ ức Giê-hô-va đoái xem An-ne: nàng thọ thai và sanh ba con trai và hai con gái, còn gã trai trẻ Sa-mu-ên khôn lớn trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va.

The Lord visited Hannah; and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. And the boy Samuel grew before the Lord. Eli Rebukes His Sons

22 V ả, Hê-li tuổi đã rất cao, được hay mọi điều hai con trai mình làm cho cả Y-sơ-ra-ên và thế nào họ nằm cùng các người nữ hầu việc tại cửa hội mạc.

Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who served at the doorway of the tent of meeting.

23 N gười nói cùng chúng nó rằng: Sao chúng bay làm như vậy? Vì ta đã nghe cả dân sự nói về các việc xấu của chúng bay.

He said to them, “Why do you do such things, the evil things that I hear from all these people?

24 C hẳng khá làm như vậy, hỡi con; điều ta nghe về việc bay vốn không tốt lành; bay khiến dân sự của Đức Giê-hô-va phạm tội.

No, my sons; for the report is not good which I hear the Lord’s people circulating.

25 N ếu người này phạm tội cùng người khác, Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ đoán xét nó; nhược bằng người phạm tội cùng Đức Giê-hô-va, ai sẽ cầu thay cho? Song chúng nó không nghe theo lời của cha mình, vì Đức Giê-hô-va toan giết chúng nó.

If one man sins against another, God will mediate for him; but if a man sins against the Lord, who can intercede for him?” But they would not listen to the voice of their father, for the Lord desired to put them to death.

26 C òn gã trai trẻ Sa-mu-ên cứ lớn lên, Đức Giê-hô-va và người ta đều lấy làm đẹp lòng người.

Now the boy Samuel was growing in stature and in favor both with the Lord and with men.

27 C ó một người của Đức Chúa Trời đến kiếm Hê-li, mà nói rằng: Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Ta há chẳng hiện ra cùng nhà tổ phụ ngươi, khi họ còn ở tại Ê-díp-tô, hầu việc nhà Pha-ra-ôn sao?

Then a man of God came to Eli and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘ Did I not indeed reveal Myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh’s house?

28 T a đã chọn nhà ấy trong các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên, đặng làm thầy tế lễ của ta, dâng của lễ trên bàn thờ ta, xông hương, và mang ê-phót trước mặt ta; ta cũng đã ban cho nhà tổ phụ ngươi các của lễ mà dân Y-sơ-ra-ên dùng lửa dâng lên.

Did I not choose them from all the tribes of Israel to be My priests, to go up to My altar, to burn incense, to carry an ephod before Me; and did I not give to the house of your father all the fire offerings of the sons of Israel?

29 V ì sao các ngươi giày đạp dưới chơn những hi sinh và của lễ chay mà ta đã truyền lịnh dâng lên trong đền ta? Ngươi kính trọng các con trai ngươi hơn ta, và các ngươi ăn mập những của lễ tốt nhứt của Y-sơ-ra-ên, dân sự ta!

Why do you kick at My sacrifice and at My offering which I have commanded in My dwelling, and honor your sons above Me, by making yourselves fat with the choicest of every offering of My people Israel?’

30 B ởi cớ đó, Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên phán như vầy: Ta có phán rằng nhà ngươi và nhà cha ngươi sẽ đời đời hầu việc trước mặt ta. Nhưng bây giờ, Đức Giê-hô-va phán, điều đó chẳng hề được như vậy! Vì phàm ai tôn kính ta, ta sẽ làm cho được tôn trọng, còn ai khinh bỉ ta, tất sẽ bị khinh bỉ lại.

Therefore the Lord God of Israel declares, ‘ I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father should walk before Me forever’; but now the Lord declares, ‘Far be it from Me—for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be lightly esteemed.

31 K ìa, thì giờ đến, ta sẽ hủy hại sự mạnh mẽ của người và sự mạnh mẽ của nhà cha ngươi, đến đỗi chẳng còn một người già trong họ hàng ngươi nữa.

Behold, the days are coming when I will break your strength and the strength of your father’s house so that there will not be an old man in your house.

32 G iữa các phước lành mà Đức Giê-hô-va giáng cho Y-sơ-ra-ên, ngươi sẽ thấy nhà ngươi bị bần khổ, và trong họ hàng người sẽ chẳng hề có người già nữa.

You will see the distress of My dwelling, in spite of all the good that I do for Israel; and an old man will not be in your house forever.

33 N ếu trong nội nhà người có một người mà ta không truất khỏi bàn thờ ta, ấy để làm cho ngươi mỏi mắt rầu lòng; các kẻ nhà ngươi sanh sản sẽ chết lúc xuân xanh.

Yet I will not cut off every man of yours from My altar so that your eyes will fail from weeping and your soul grieve, and all the increase of your house will die in the prime of life.

34 Đ iều sẽ xảy đến cho hai con ngươi, là Hóp-ni và Phi-nê -a, sẽ dùng làm dấu hiệu cho ngươi: cả hai đều sẽ chết trong một ngày.

This will be the sign to you which will come concerning your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas: on the same day both of them will die.

35 Đ oạn, ta sẽ lập cho ta một thầy tế lễ trung tín; người sẽ làm theo lòng ta và ý ta. Ta sẽ cất cho người một nhà vững bền, và người sẽ đi trước mặt Đấng chịu xức dầu của ta luôn luôn.

But I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and in My soul; and I will build him an enduring house, and he will walk before My anointed always.

36 A i trong họ hàng ngươi còn sống, sẽ đi đến lạy trước mặt người, hầu cho được một miếng bạc cùng một ổ bánh, và sẽ nói rằng: Xin ông hãy phong cho tôi một chức tế lễ, để tôi được một miếng bánh ăn.

Everyone who is left in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver or a loaf of bread and say, “Please assign me to one of the priest’s offices so that I may eat a piece of bread.”’”
