1 S am-sôn đi đến Ga-xa, thấy một kỵ nữ ở đó, bèn đi vào nhà nàng.

Now Samson went to Gaza and saw a harlot there, and went in to her.

2 N gười ta thuật lại cho dân Ga-xa rằng: Sam-sôn đã đến đây. Chúng bèn vây người và rình giữ trọn đêm tại cửa thành. Cả đêm ấy, chúng giữ yên lặng, mà rằng: Rựng sáng, chúng ta sẽ giết hắn.

When it was told to the Gazites, saying, “Samson has come here,” they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city. And they kept silent all night, saying, “ Let us wait until the morning light, then we will kill him.”

3 S am-sôn ở ngủ cho đến khuya. Lối khuya, người thức dậy, nắm hai cánh cửa thành và hai cây trụ, nhổ nó lên luôn với cây then, vác trên vai, và đem lên chót núi đối ngang Hếp-rôn.

Now Samson lay until midnight, and at midnight he arose and took hold of the doors of the city gate and the two posts and pulled them up along with the bars; then he put them on his shoulders and carried them up to the top of the mountain which is opposite Hebron.

After this it came about that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.

5 C ác quan trưởng Phi-li-tin đến nhà nàng, mà rằng: Hãy rán dụ dỗ hắn, hầu cho biết bởi đâu hắn có sức mạnh lớn lao kia, và chúng ta phải làm thế nào cho được thắng hơn, trói và bắt hắn phục. Chúng ta ai nấy sẽ thưởng cho nàng mười một trăm miếng bạc.

The lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “ Entice him, and see where his great strength lies and how we may overpower him that we may bind him to afflict him. Then we will each give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.”

6 Đ a-li-la nói cùng Sam-sôn rằng: Tôi xin chàng hãy nói cho tôi biết bởi đâu chàng có sức mạnh lớn lao, và phải dùng chi trói chàng đặng bắt phục chàng?

So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength is and how you may be bound to afflict you.”

7 S am-sôn đáp: Nếu người ta trói tôi bằng bảy sợi dây cung tươi và còn ướt, thì tôi sẽ trở nên yếu đuối như một người khác.

Samson said to her, “If they bind me with seven fresh cords that have not been dried, then I will become weak and be like any other man.”

8 C ác quan trưởng Phi-li-tin đem cho Đa-li-la bảy sợi dây tươi và còn ướt, nàng lấy trói người.

Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh cords that had not been dried, and she bound him with them.

9 V ả, tại trong phòng ở nhà nàng có binh phục. Nàng nói: Ớ Sam-sôn, người Phi-li-tin xông hãm ngươi! Song người bứt những sợi dây như sợi chỉ gai đứt khi đụng đến lửa. Như vậy, căn nguyên sức mạnh người chẳng tìm ra được.

Now she had men lying in wait in an inner room. And she said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he snapped the cords as a string of tow snaps when it touches fire. So his strength was not discovered.

10 Đ a-li-la nói cùng Sam-sôn rằng: Nầy chàng đã gạt tôi, nói dối cùng tôi. Xin bây giờ hãy tỏ cho tôi phải lấy chi trói chàng?

Then Delilah said to Samson, “Behold, you have deceived me and told me lies; now please tell me how you may be bound.”

11 N gười đáp: Nếu người ta cột ta bằng dây lớn mới, chưa hề có ai dùng, thì ta sẽ trở nên yếu như một người khác.

He said to her, “If they bind me tightly with new ropes which have not been used, then I will become weak and be like any other man.”

12 V ậy, Đa-li-la lấy dây lớn mới, trói Sam-sôn rồi nói rằng: Ớ Sam-sôn, người Phi-li-tin xông hãm ngươi! Vả, có binh đương phục trong một phòng. Nhưng người bức những sợi dây lớn trói cánh tay, y như một sợi chỉ vậy.

So Delilah took new ropes and bound him with them and said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” For the men were lying in wait in the inner room. But he snapped the ropes from his arms like a thread.

13 Đ a-li-la nói cùng Sam-sôn rằng: Chàng gạt tôi và nói dối tôi đến bây giờ. Vậy. xin hãy nói cho tôi biết phải trói chàng bằng chi. Người đáp: Nàng cứ dệt bảy lọn tóc thắt của đầu ta vào trong canh chỉ của nàng.

Then Delilah said to Samson, “Up to now you have deceived me and told me lies; tell me how you may be bound.” And he said to her, “If you weave the seven locks of my hair with the web [and fasten it with a pin, then I will become weak and be like any other man.”

14 Đ a-li-la lấy con sẻ cột chặt lại, rồi la rằng: Ớ, Sam-sôn, người Phi-li-tin xông hãm người! Nhưng người thức dậy, nhổ con sẻ của khung cửi luôn với canh chỉ.

So while he slept, Delilah took the seven locks of his hair and wove them into the web]. And she fastened it with the pin and said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he awoke from his sleep and pulled out the pin of the loom and the web. Delilah Extracts His Secret

15 B ấy giờ, nàng mới nói rằng: Làm sao chàng nói được rằng: Tôi yêu nàng! bởi vì lòng chàng chẳng thành cùng tôi? Chàng đã gạt tôi ba lần, và chẳng nói cho tôi biết bởi đâu có sức lực lớn của chàng.

Then she said to him, “ How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have deceived me these three times and have not told me where your great strength is.”

16 M ỗi ngày nàng lấy câu hỏi ghẹo lòng rối trí người, đến đỗi người bị tức mình hòng chết.

It came about when she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, that his soul was annoyed to death.

17 N gười bèn tỏ hết sự lòng mình mà rằng: Dao cạo chẳng hề đưa qua đầu ta, vì từ trong lòng mẹ, ta đã làm người Na-xi-rê cho Đức Chúa Trời. Nếu ta bị cạo, sức lực ta sẽ lìa khỏi ta, ta tất trở thành yếu như người khác.

So he told her all that was in his heart and said to her, “A razor has never come on my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will leave me and I will become weak and be like any other man.”

18 Đ a-li-la thấy nguời đã tỏ hết sự lòng cho mình, sai mời các quan trưởng Phi-li-tin, mà rằng: Lần nầy hãy lên, vì hắn tỏ hết sự lòng cho tôi. Vậy, các quan trưởng Phi-li-tin đi lên nhà nàng, đem bạc trong tay.

When Delilah saw that he had told her all that was in his heart, she sent and called the lords of the Philistines, saying, “Come up once more, for he has told me all that is in his heart.” Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hands.

19 N àng khiến Sam-sôn nằm ngủ trên đầu gối mình, gọi một người, biểu cạo bảy mé tóc trên đầu chàng. Như vậy, nàng khởi làm khốn khổ người, sức lực bèn lìa khỏi người.

She made him sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his hair. Then she began to afflict him, and his strength left him.

20 B ấy giờ nàng nói: Ớ Sam-sôn, người Phi-li-tin xông hãm ngươi! Người thức dậy mà rằng: Ta sẽ ra như các lần trước, và gỡ mình cho thoát khỏi tay chúng nó! Nhưng người chẳng biết rằng Đức Giê-hô-va đã lìa khỏi mình.

She said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he awoke from his sleep and said, “I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.

21 N gười Phi-li-tin bắt người, khoét con mắt, đem xuống Ga-xa, rồi trói người bằng dây đồng đậu đôi, và bắt người phải xay cối trong ngục.

Then the Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze chains, and he was a grinder in the prison.

22 S ong tóc người đã bị cạo khởi mọc lại.

However, the hair of his head began to grow again after it was shaved off.

23 V ả, các quan trưởng Phi-li-tin nhóm lại đặng dâng của tế lễ lớn cho Đa-gôn, thần của họ, và đặng vui mừng nhau. Chúng nói rằng: Thần chúng ta đã phó Sam-sôn vào tay chúng ta, là kẻ thù nghịch chúng ta.

Now the lords of the Philistines assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice, for they said, “Our god has given Samson our enemy into our hands.”

24 D ân sự vừa thấy người, cũng cất tiếng khen ngợi thần mình, mà rằng: Thần chúng ta đã phó kẻ thù nghịch vào tay chúng ta, là kẻ đã phá hại xứ chúng ta, và đã giết biết bao nhiêu người!

When the people saw him, they praised their god, for they said, “Our god has given our enemy into our hands, Even the destroyer of our country, Who has slain many of us.”

25 Đ ương khi lòng rất hớn hở, chúng la lên rằng: Hãy gọi Sam-sôn, để hắn làm trò vui cho chúng ta. Vậy, chúng dẫn Sam-sôn ở ngục đến, rồi người làm trò trước mặt chúng. Người ta đã để người đứng giữa các cột;

It so happened when they were in high spirits, that they said, “Call for Samson, that he may amuse us.” So they called for Samson from the prison, and he entertained them. And they made him stand between the pillars.

26 S am-sôn bèn nói cùng đứa trẻ nắm tay mình rằng: Hãy buông ta, và để cho ta rờ đến các cột đỡ chịu cái đền, hầu cho ta dựa vào đó.

Then Samson said to the boy who was holding his hand, “Let me feel the pillars on which the house rests, that I may lean against them.”

27 V ả, đền đầy những người nam người nữ, và hết thảy các quan trưởng Phi-li-tin đều ở đó; tại trên sân mái đền cũng có độ gần ba ngàn người nam và nữ xem Sam-sôn làm trò.

Now the house was full of men and women, and all the lords of the Philistines were there. And about 3, 000 men and women were on the roof looking on while Samson was amusing them. Samson Is Avenged

28 B ấy giờ, Sam-sôn kêu cầu Đức Giê-hô-va, mà rằng: Chúa Giê-hô-va ôi! xin Ngài nhớ lại tôi. Hỡi Đức Chúa Trời! xin ban sức lực cho tôi chỉ lần nầy mà thôi, hầu cho tôi báo thù dân Phi-li-tin về sự mất hai con mắt tôi.

Then Samson called to the Lord and said, “O Lord God, please remember me and please strengthen me just this time, O God, that I may at once be avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.”

29 S am-sôn vớ lấy hai cây cột chính giữa đỡ chịu cái đền, một cây ở bên hữu và một cây ở bên tả, nhận vào, mà rằng: Nguyện tôi chết chung với dân Phi-li-tin! Đoạn, người rán hết sức, sô hai cây cột, đền đổ xuống trên các quan trưởng và dân sự ở đó.

Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and braced himself against them, the one with his right hand and the other with his left.

30 A áy vậy, trong lúc chết, Sam-sôn giết nhiều người hơn là giết trong khi còn sống.

And Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” And he bent with all his might so that the house fell on the lords and all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he killed in his life.

31 K ế đó, anh em người và cả nhà người đi xuống, đem thây người về, chôn tại giữa Xô-rê -a và Ê-ta-ôn, trong mộ của Ma-nô -a, cha người. Sam-sôn làm quan xét trong Y-sơ-ra-ên hai mươi năm.

Then his brothers and all his father’s household came down, took him, brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah his father. Thus he had judged Israel twenty years.
