1 S o all Israel were listed by genealogies; and behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel. Judah was carried away captive to Babylon for their disobedience.

So all Israel was recorded by genealogies, and indeed, they were inscribed in the book of the kings of Israel. But Judah was carried away captive to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.

2 N ow the first inhabitants who lived in their possessions in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the Nethinim.

17 T he porters: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their brothers (Shallum was the chief),

18 w ho previously served in the king’s gate eastward. They were the porters for the camp of the children of Levi.

Until then they had been gatekeepers for the camps of the children of Levi at the King’s Gate on the east.

19 S hallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brothers, of his father’s house, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent. Their fathers had been over the camp of Yahweh, keepers of the entry.

20 P hinehas the son of Eleazar was ruler over them in time past, and Yahweh was with him.

21 Z echariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the Tent of Meeting.

Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was keeper of the door of the tabernacle of meeting.

22 A ll these who were chosen to be porters in the thresholds were two hundred twelve. These were listed by genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer ordained in their office of trust.

All those chosen as gatekeepers were two hundred and twelve. They were recorded by their genealogy, in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had appointed them to their trusted office.

23 S o they and their children had the oversight of the gates of Yahweh’s house, even the house of the tent, by wards.

So they and their children were in charge of the gates of the house of the Lord, the house of the tabernacle, by assignment.

24 O n the four sides were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south.

The gatekeepers were assigned to the four directions: the east, west, north, and south.

25 T heir brothers, in their villages, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them:

And their brethren in their villages had to come with them from time to time for seven days.

26 f or the four chief porters, who were Levites, were in an office of trust, and were over the rooms and over the treasuries in God’s house.

For in this trusted office were four chief gatekeepers; they were Levites. And they had charge over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.

27 T hey stayed around God’s house, because that duty was on them; and to their duty was its opening morning by morning.

And they lodged all around the house of God because they had the responsibility, and they were in charge of opening it every morning. Other Levite Responsibilities

28 C ertain of them were in charge of the vessels of service; for these were brought in by count, and these were taken out by count.

Now some of them were in charge of the serving vessels, for they brought them in and took them out by count.

29 S ome of them also were appointed over the furniture, and over all the vessels of the sanctuary, over the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices.

30 S ome of the sons of the priests prepared the mixing of the spices.

31 M attithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the office of trust over the things that were baked in pans.

32 S ome of their brothers, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the show bread, to prepare it every Sabbath.

33 T hese are the singers, heads of fathers’ households of the Levites, who lived in the rooms and were free from other service; for they were employed in their work day and night.

34 T hese were heads of fathers’ households of the Levites, throughout their generations, chief men. These lived at Jerusalem.

35 J eiel the father of Gibeon, whose wife’s name was Maacah, lived in Gibeon with

39 N er became the father of Kish. Kish became the father of Saul. Saul became the father of Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

Ner begot Kish, Kish begot Saul, and Saul begot Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-Baal.

40 T he son of Jonathan was Merib Baal. Merib Baal became the father of Micah.

The son of Jonathan was Merib-Baal, and Merib-Baal begot Micah.

41 T he sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.

The sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.

42 A haz became the father of Jarah. Jarah became the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. Zimri became the father of Moza.

And Ahaz begot Jarah; Jarah begot Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begot Moza;

43 M oza became the father of Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, and Azel his son.

Moza begot Binea, Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, and Azel his son.

44 A zel had six sons, whose names are these: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
