1 B e merciful to me, God, for man wants to swallow me up. All day long, he attacks and oppresses me.

Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; Fighting all day he oppresses me.

2 M y enemies want to swallow me up all day long, for they are many who fight proudly against me.

My enemies would hound me all day, For there are many who fight against me, O Most High.

3 W hen I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

4 I n God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?

5 A ll day long they twist my words. All their thoughts are against me for evil.

All day they twist my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil.

6 T hey conspire and lurk, watching my steps, they are eager to take my life.

They gather together, They hide, they mark my steps, When they lie in wait for my life.

7 S hall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, God.

Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God!

8 Y ou number my wanderings. You put my tears into your bottle. Aren’t they in your book?

You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book?

9 T hen my enemies shall turn back in the day that I call. I know this, that God is for me.

When I cry out to You, Then my enemies will turn back; This I know, because God is for me.

10 I n God, I will praise his word. In Yahweh, I will praise his word.

In God (I will praise His word), In the Lord (I will praise His word),

11 I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

12 Y our vows are on me, God. I will give thank offerings to you.

Vows made to You are binding upon me, O God; I will render praises to You,

13 F or you have delivered my soul from death, and prevented my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living.

For You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, That I may walk before God In the light of the living?
