1 I n the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build Yahweh’s house.

And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the Lord.

2 T he house which king Solomon built for Yahweh had a length of sixty cubits, and its width twenty, and its height thirty cubits.

Now the house which King Solomon built for the Lord, its length was sixty cubits, its width twenty, and its height thirty cubits.

3 T he porch in front of the temple of the house had a length of twenty cubits, which was along the width of the house. Ten cubits was its width in front of the house.

The vestibule in front of the sanctuary of the house was twenty cubits long across the width of the house, and the width of the vestibule extended ten cubits from the front of the house.

4 H e made windows of fixed lattice work for the house.

And he made for the house windows with beveled frames.

5 A gainst the wall of the house, he built floors all around, against the walls of the house all around, both of the temple and of the inner sanctuary; and he made side rooms all around.

Against the wall of the temple he built chambers all around, against the walls of the temple, all around the sanctuary and the inner sanctuary. Thus he made side chambers all around it.

6 T he lowest floor was five cubits wide, and the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for on the outside he made offsets in the wall of the house all around, that the beams should not be inserted into the walls of the house.

The lowest chamber was five cubits wide, the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for he made narrow ledges around the outside of the temple, so that the support beams would not be fastened into the walls of the temple.

7 T he house, when it was under construction, was built of stone prepared at the quarry; and no hammer or ax or any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was under construction.

And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.

8 T he door for the middle side rooms was in the right side of the house. They went up by winding stairs into the middle floor, and out of the middle into the third.

The doorway for the middle story was on the right side of the temple. They went up by stairs to the middle story, and from the middle to the third.

9 S o he built the house, and finished it; and he covered the house with beams and planks of cedar.

So he built the temple and finished it, and he paneled the temple with beams and boards of cedar.

10 H e built the floors all along the house, each five cubits high; and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

And he built side chambers against the entire temple, each five cubits high; they were attached to the temple with cedar beams.

11 Y ahweh’s word came to Solomon, saying,

Then the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying:

12 Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in my statutes, and execute my ordinances, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father.

“ Concerning this temple which you are building, if you walk in My statutes, execute My judgments, keep all My commandments, and walk in them, then I will perform My word with you, which I spoke to your father David.

13 I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.”

And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel.”

14 S o Solomon built the house, and finished it.

So Solomon built the temple and finished it.

15 H e built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar: from the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood; and he covered the floor of the house with cypress boards.

And he built the inside walls of the temple with cedar boards; from the floor of the temple to the ceiling he paneled the inside with wood; and he covered the floor of the temple with planks of cypress.

16 H e built twenty cubits on the back part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the ceiling. He built them for it within, for an inner sanctuary, even for the most holy place.

Then he built the twenty-cubit room at the rear of the temple, from floor to ceiling, with cedar boards; he built it inside as the inner sanctuary, as the Most Holy Place.

17 I n front of the temple sanctuary was forty cubits.

And in front of it the temple sanctuary was forty cubits long.

18 T here was cedar on the house within, carved with buds and open flowers. All was cedar. No stone was visible.

The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with ornamental buds and open flowers. All was cedar; there was no stone to be seen.

19 H e prepared an inner sanctuary in the middle of the house within, to set the ark of Yahweh’s covenant there.

And he prepared the inner sanctuary inside the temple, to set the ark of the covenant of the Lord there.

20 W ithin the inner sanctuary was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in its height; and he overlaid it with pure gold; and he covered the altar with cedar.

The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high. He overlaid it with pure gold, and overlaid the altar of cedar.

21 S o Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold. He drew chains of gold across before the inner sanctuary, and he overlaid it with gold.

So Solomon overlaid the inside of the temple with pure gold. He stretched gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, and overlaid it with gold.

22 H e overlaid the whole house with gold, until all the house was finished. He also overlaid the whole altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary with gold.

The whole temple he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the temple; also he overlaid with gold the entire altar that was by the inner sanctuary.

23 I n the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high.

Inside the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high.

24 F ive cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub. From the tip of one wing to the tip of the other was ten cubits.

One wing of the cherub was five cubits, and the other wing of the cherub five cubits: ten cubits from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other.

25 T he other cherub was ten cubits. Both the cherubim were of one measure and one form.

And the other cherub was ten cubits; both cherubim were of the same size and shape.

26 O ne cherub was ten cubits high, and so was the other cherub.

The height of one cherub was ten cubits, and so was the other cherub.

27 H e set the cherubim within the inner house. The wings of the cherubim were stretched out, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the middle of the house.

Then he set the cherubim inside the inner room; and they stretched out the wings of the cherubim so that the wing of the one touched one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall. And their wings touched each other in the middle of the room.

28 H e overlaid the cherubim with gold.

Also he overlaid the cherubim with gold.

29 H e carved all the walls of the house around with carved figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, inside and outside.

Then he carved all the walls of the temple all around, both the inner and outer sanctuaries, with carved figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers.

30 H e overlaid the floor of the house with gold, inside and outside.

And the floor of the temple he overlaid with gold, both the inner and outer sanctuaries.

31 F or the entrance of the inner sanctuary, he made doors of olive wood. The lintel and door posts were a fifth part of the wall.

For the entrance of the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood; the lintel and doorposts were one-fifth of the wall.

32 S o he made two doors of olive wood; and he carved on them carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold. He spread the gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees.

The two doors were of olive wood; and he carved on them figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees.

33 H e also did so for the entrance of the temple door posts of olive wood, out of a fourth part of the wall;

So for the door of the sanctuary he also made doorposts of olive wood, one-fourth of the wall.

34 a nd two doors of cypress wood. The two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.

And the two doors were of cypress wood; two panels comprised one folding door, and two panels comprised the other folding door.

35 H e carved cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers; and he overlaid them with gold fitted on the engraved work.

Then he carved cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers on them, and overlaid them with gold applied evenly on the carved work.

36 H e built the inner court with three courses of cut stone and a course of cedar beams.

And he built the inner court with three rows of hewn stone and a row of cedar beams.

37 T he foundation of Yahweh’s house was laid in the fourth year, in the month Ziv.

In the fourth year the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid, in the month of Ziv.

38 I n the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished throughout all its parts, and according to all its specifications. So he spent seven years building it.

And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished in all its details and according to all its plans. So he was seven years in building it.
