1 And it came to pass in the year four hundred and eighty after the sons of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of the beginning of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.

And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the Lord.

2 A nd the house which King Solomon built for the LORD, was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide and thirty cubits high.

Now the house which King Solomon built for the Lord, its length was sixty cubits, its width twenty, and its height thirty cubits.

3 A nd the porch before the temple of the house was twenty cubits long, according to the width of the house; and its width was ten cubits before the house.

The vestibule in front of the sanctuary of the house was twenty cubits long across the width of the house, and the width of the vestibule extended ten cubits from the front of the house.

4 A nd for the house he made windows broad within and narrow without.

And he made for the house windows with beveled frames.

5 A nd against the wall of the house, he built wings round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle; and he made chambers round about.

Against the wall of the temple he built chambers all around, against the walls of the temple, all around the sanctuary and the inner sanctuary. Thus he made side chambers all around it.

6 T he lower wing was five cubits wide, and the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide, for without in the wall of the house, he had made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.

The lowest chamber was five cubits wide, the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for he made narrow ledges around the outside of the temple, so that the support beams would not be fastened into the walls of the temple.

7 A nd the house, when it was built, was put together of perfect stones made ready before they were brought there; so that there was no hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was being built.

And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.

8 T he door for the middle wing was in the right side of the house; and they went up with winding stairs into the middle wing and out of the middle into the third.

The doorway for the middle story was on the right side of the temple. They went up by stairs to the middle story, and from the middle to the third.

9 S o he built the house and finished it and covered the house with work of cedar placed in order.

So he built the temple and finished it, and he paneled the temple with beams and boards of cedar.

10 A nd then he built the wing against all the house, five cubits high; and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

And he built side chambers against the entire temple, each five cubits high; they were attached to the temple with cedar beams.

11 And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying,

Then the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying:

12 C oncerning this house which thou art building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes and execute my rights and keep all my commandments to walk in them, then I will perform my word with thee, which I spoke unto David thy father;

“ Concerning this temple which you are building, if you walk in My statutes, execute My judgments, keep all My commandments, and walk in them, then I will perform My word with you, which I spoke to your father David.

13 a nd I will dwell among the sons of Israel and will not forsake my people Israel.

And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel.”

14 S o Solomon built the house and finished it.

So Solomon built the temple and finished it.

15 And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house and the walls of the ceiling; and he covered them on the inside with wood and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.

And he built the inside walls of the temple with cedar boards; from the floor of the temple to the ceiling he paneled the inside with wood; and he covered the floor of the temple with planks of cypress.

16 A nd he built twenty cubits on the end of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar; and he built an oracle in the house, which is the holy of holies.

Then he built the twenty-cubit room at the rear of the temple, from floor to ceiling, with cedar boards; he built it inside as the inner sanctuary, as the Most Holy Place.

17 A nd the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long.

And in front of it the temple sanctuary was forty cubits long.

18 A nd the cedar of the house within was carved with wild gourds and open flowers. All was cedar; no stone was seen.

The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with ornamental buds and open flowers. All was cedar; there was no stone to be seen.

19 A nd he prepared the oracle in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

And he prepared the inner sanctuary inside the temple, to set the ark of the covenant of the Lord there.

20 A nd the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length and twenty cubits wide and twenty cubits high, and he overlaid it with pure gold and likewise covered the altar which was of cedar.

The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high. He overlaid it with pure gold, and overlaid the altar of cedar.

21 S o Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold, and he closed the door of the oracle with chains of gold, and he overlaid it with gold.

So Solomon overlaid the inside of the temple with pure gold. He stretched gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, and overlaid it with gold.

22 A nd the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house; also the whole altar that was in front of the oracle he overlaid with gold.

The whole temple he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the temple; also he overlaid with gold the entire altar that was by the inner sanctuary.

23 A nd within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive wood, each ten cubits high.

Inside the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high.

24 A nd one wing of the cherub was five cubits, and the other wing of the cherub five cubits; from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.

One wing of the cherub was five cubits, and the other wing of the cherub five cubits: ten cubits from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other.

25 L ikewise, the other cherub was ten cubits, for both the cherubims were of one measure and one size.

And the other cherub was ten cubits; both cherubim were of the same size and shape.

26 T he height of one cherub was ten cubits, and so was the other cherub.

The height of one cherub was ten cubits, and so was the other cherub.

27 A nd he set the cherubims within the inner house, and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.

Then he set the cherubim inside the inner room; and they stretched out the wings of the cherubim so that the wing of the one touched one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall. And their wings touched each other in the middle of the room.

28 A nd he overlaid the cherubims with gold.

Also he overlaid the cherubim with gold.

29 A nd he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.

Then he carved all the walls of the temple all around, both the inner and outer sanctuaries, with carved figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers.

30 A nd the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.

And the floor of the temple he overlaid with gold, both the inner and outer sanctuaries.

31 A nd at the entrance of the oracle he made doors of olive wood; the lintel and side posts had five sides.

For the entrance of the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood; the lintel and doorposts were one-fifth of the wall.

32 T he two doors were of olive wood, and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers and overlaid them with gold and covered the cherubims and the palm trees with gold.

The two doors were of olive wood; and he carved on them figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees.

33 I n the same manner he made posts of olive wood at the entrance of the temple with four sides.

So for the door of the sanctuary he also made doorposts of olive wood, one-fourth of the wall.

34 T he two doors were of fir; the two sides of the one door were rounded, and the two leaves of the other door were rounded.

And the two doors were of cypress wood; two panels comprised one folding door, and two panels comprised the other folding door.

35 A nd he carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work.

Then he carved cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers on them, and overlaid them with gold applied evenly on the carved work.

36 A nd he built the inner court with three orders of hewed stone and an order of cedar beams.

And he built the inner court with three rows of hewn stone and a row of cedar beams.

37 I n the fourth year the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid, in the month Zif.

In the fourth year the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid, in the month of Ziv.

38 A nd in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished throughout all its parts and with everything necessary. So he was seven years in building it.

And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished in all its details and according to all its plans. So he was seven years in building it.
