1 ¶ Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

2 A nd supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,

3 J esus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God and was going to God,

5 A fter that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded.

6 T hen he came to Simon Peter, and Peter said unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”
7 J esus answered and said unto him, What I do thou dost not understand now, but thou shalt understand afterwards.
Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”
8 P eter said unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou shalt have no part with me.
Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”
9 S imon Peter said unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”
10 J esus said to him, He that is washed needs only to wash his feet because he is completely clean, and ye are clean, but not all.
Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.”
11 F or he knew who should betray him; therefore, said he, Ye are not all clean.
For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”
12 S o after he had washed their feet and had taken his garments and had sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?
13 Y e call me Master and Lord; and ye say well, for so I am.
You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am.
14 I f I then, the Lord and the Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.
If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15 F or I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you.
For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
16 V erily, verily, I say unto you, The slave is not greater than his lord; neither is the apostle greater than he that sent him.
Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.
17 I f ye know these things, ye shall be blessed if ye do them.
If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. Jesus Identifies His Betrayer
18 ¶ I speak not of you all; I know whom I have chosen; but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me,
“I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’
19 n ow I tell you before it is done, so that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I AM.
Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He.
20 V erily, verily, I say unto you, He that receives whomsoever I send receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
21 W hen Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit and testified and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
When Jesus had said these things, He was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me.”
22 T hen the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spoke.
Then the disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom He spoke.
23 A nd one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was seated at the table beside Jesus.
Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 S imon Peter therefore beckoned to this one that he should ask him who it was of whom he spoke.
Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke.
25 H e then, reclining on Jesus’ breast, said unto him, Lord, who is it?
Then, leaning back on Jesus’ breast, he said to Him, “Lord, who is it?”
26 J esus answered, He it is to whom I shall give a sop when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it. ” And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 A nd after the sop Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said unto him, That which thou shalt do, do it more quickly.
Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.”
28 N ow no one at the table understood for what purpose he spoke this unto him.
But no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him.
29 F or some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we need for the feast, or that he should give something to the poor.
For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, “Buy those things we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor.
30 H e then having received the sop went immediately out, and it was now night.
Having received the piece of bread, he then went out immediately. And it was night. The New Commandment
31 ¶ Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man clarified, and God is clarified in him.
So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him.
32 I f God is clarified in him, God shall also clarify him in himself and shall straightway clarify him.
If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately.
33 L ittle children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me; and as I said unto the Jews, Where I go, ye cannot come, so now I say to you.
Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come,’ so now I say to you.
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
35 B y this shall everyone know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial
36 ¶ Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, where goest thou? Jesus answered him, Where I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward.”
37 P eter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my soul for thy sake.
Peter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake.”
38 J esus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy soul for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow until thou hast denied me three times.
Jesus answered him, “Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times.
