1 I ndeed, my heart also trembles and leaps out of its place.
“Yes, at this my heart trembles, and is moved out of its place.
2 H ear, oh, hear the roar of His voice and the sound of rumbling that goes out of His mouth!
Hear, oh, hear the noise of his voice, the sound that goes out of his mouth.
3 U nder the whole heaven He lets it loose, and His lightning to the ends of the earth.
He sends it out under the whole sky, and his lightning to the ends of the earth.
4 A fter it His voice roars; He thunders with the voice of His majesty, and He restrains not when His voice is heard.
After it a voice roars. He thunders with the voice of his majesty. He doesn’t hold back anything when his voice is heard.
5 G od thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things which we cannot comprehend.
God thunders marvelously with his voice. He does great things, which we can’t comprehend.
6 F or He says to the snow, Fall on the earth; likewise He speaks to the showers and to the downpour of His mighty rains.
For he says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth;’ likewise to the shower of rain, and to the showers of his mighty rain.
7 G od seals up (stops, brings to a standstill by severe weather) the hand of every man, that all men whom He has made may know His doings (His sovereign power and their subjection to it).

8 T hen the beasts go into dens and remain in their lairs.
Then the animals take cover, and remain in their dens.
9 O ut of its chamber comes the whirlwind, and cold from the scattering winds.
Out of its room comes the storm, and cold out of the north.
10 B y the breath of God ice is given, and the breadth of the waters is frozen over.
By the breath of God, ice is given, and the width of the waters is frozen.
11 H e loads the thick cloud with moisture; He scatters the cloud of His lightning.
Yes, he loads the thick cloud with moisture. He spreads abroad the cloud of his lightning.
12 A nd it is turned round about by His guidance, that they may do whatever He commands them upon the face of the habitable earth.
It is turned around by his guidance, that they may do whatever he commands them on the surface of the habitable world,
13 W hether it be for correction or for His earth or for His mercy and loving-kindness, He causes it to come.
Whether it is for correction, or for his land, or for loving kindness, that he causes it to come.
14 H ear this, O Job; stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.
“Listen to this, Job. Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.
15 D o you know how God lays His command upon them and causes the lightning of His cloud to shine?
Do you know how God controls them, and causes the lightning of his cloud to shine?
16 D o you know how the clouds are balanced, the wonderful works of Him Who is perfect in knowledge?
Do you know the workings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge?
17 w hy your garments are hot when He quiets the earth with the south wind?
You whose clothing is warm, when the earth is still by reason of the south wind?
18 C an you along with Him spread out the sky, strong as a molten mirror?
Can you, with him, spread out the sky, which is strong as a cast metal mirror?
19 T ell us with what words of man we may address such a Being; we cannot state our case because we are in the dark.
Teach us what we shall tell him, for we can’t make our case by reason of darkness.
20 S o shall it be told Him that I wish to speak? If a man speaks, shall he be swallowed up?
Will it be told him that I would speak? Or should a man wish that he were swallowed up?
21 A nd now men cannot look upon the light when it is bright in the skies, when the wind has passed and cleared them.
Now men don’t see the light which is bright in the skies, but the wind passes, and clears them.
22 G olden brightness and splendor come out of the north; terrible splendor and majesty God has upon Himself!
Out of the north comes golden splendor. With God is awesome majesty.
23 T ouching the Almighty, we cannot find Him out; He is excellent in power; and to justice and plenteous righteousness He does no violence.
We can’t reach the Almighty. He is exalted in power. In justice and great righteousness, he will not oppress.
24 M en therefore fear Him; He regards and respects not any who are wise in heart.
Therefore men revere him. He doesn’t regard any who are wise of heart.”
