1 U nd Jona betete zu dem HERRN, seinem Gott, im Leibe des Fisches.

Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly,

2 U nd sprach: Ich rief zu dem HERRN in meiner Angst, und er antwortete mir; ich schrie aus dem Bauche der Hölle, und du hörtest meine Stimme.

And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

3 D u warfest mich in die Tiefe mitten im Meer, daß die Fluten mich umgaben; alle deine Wogen und Wellen gingen über mich,

For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

4 d aß ich gedachte, ich wäre von deinen Augen verstoßen, ich würde deinen heiligen Tempel nicht mehr sehen.

Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

5 W asser umgaben mich bis an mein Leben, die Tiefe umringte mich; Schilf bedeckte mein Haupt.

The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

6 I ch sank hinunter zu der Berge Gründen, die Erde hatte mich verriegelt ewiglich; aber du hast mein Leben aus dem Verderben geführt, HERR, mein Gott.

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.

7 D a meine Seele bei mir verzagte, gedachte ich an den HERRN; und mein Gebet kam zu dir in deinen heiligen Tempel.

When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

8 D ie da halten an dem Nichtigen, verlassen ihre Gnade.

They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

9 I ch aber will mit Dank dir opfern, mein Gelübde will ich bezahlen; denn die Hilfe ist des HERRN.

But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

10 U nd der HERR sprach zum Fisch, und der spie Jona aus ans Land.

And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
