1 A ber der Zukunft halben unsers HERRN Jesu Christi und unsrer Versammlung zu ihm bitten wir euch, liebe Brüder,

Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2 d aß ihr euch nicht bald bewegen lasset von eurem Sinn noch erschrecken, weder durch Geist noch durch Wort noch durch Brief, als von uns gesandt, daß der Tag Christi vorhanden sei.

That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 L asset euch niemand verführen in keinerlei Weise; denn er kommt nicht, es sei denn, daß zuvor der Abfall komme und offenbart werde der Mensch der Sünde, das Kind des Verderbens,

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 d er da ist der Widersacher und sich überhebt über alles, was Gott oder Gottesdienst heißt, also daß er sich setzt in den Tempel Gottes als ein Gott und gibt sich aus, er sei Gott.

Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

5 G edenket ihr nicht daran, daß ich euch solches sagte, da ich noch bei euch war?

Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6 U nd was es noch aufhält, wisset ihr, daß er offenbart werde zu seiner Zeit.

And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

7 D enn es regt sich bereits das Geheimnis der Bosheit, nur daß, der es jetzt aufhält, muß hinweggetan werden;

For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8 u nd alsdann wird der Boshafte offenbart werden, welchen der HERR umbringen wird mit dem Geist seines Mundes und durch die Erscheinung seiner Zukunft ihm ein Ende machen,

And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9 i hm, dessen Zukunft geschieht nach der Wirkung des Satans mit allerlei lügenhaftigen Kräften und Zeichen und Wundern

Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 u nd mit allerlei Verführung zur Ungerechtigkeit unter denen, die verloren werden, dafür daß sie die Liebe zur Wahrheit nicht haben angenommen, auf daß sie selig würden.

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 D arum wird ihnen Gott kräftige Irrtümer senden, daß sie glauben der Lüge,

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 a uf daß gerichtet werden alle, die der Wahrheit nicht glauben, sondern haben Lust an der Ungerechtigkeit.

That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

13 W ir aber sollen Gott danken allezeit um euch, von dem HERRN geliebte Brüder, daß euch Gott erwählt hat von Anfang zur Seligkeit, in der Heiligung des Geistes und im Glauben der Wahrheit,

But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

14 d arein er euch berufen hat durch unser Evangelium zum herrlichen Eigentum unsers HERRN Jesu Christi.

Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 S o stehet nun, liebe Brüder, und haltet an den Satzungen, in denen ihr gelehrt seid, es sei durch unser Wort oder Brief.

Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

16 E r aber, unser HERR Jesus Christus, und Gott, unser Vater, der uns hat geliebt und uns gegeben einen ewigen Trost und eine gute Hoffnung durch Gnade,

Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,

17 d er ermahne eure Herzen und stärke euch in allerlei Lehre und gutem Werk.

Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
