1 ل ا تُوَبِّخْ شَيخاً، بَلِ انصَحهُ كَأبٍ. وَعامِلِ الشَّبابَ كَإخوَةٍ.

Do not sharply rebuke an older man, but rather appeal to him as a father, to the younger men as brothers,

2 أ مّا العَجائِزُ فَعامِلهُنَّ كَأُمَّهاتٍ، وَالشّابّاتِ كَأخَواتٍ بِكُلِّ طَهارَةٍ.

the older women as mothers, and the younger women as sisters, in all purity.

3 ر اعِ الأرامِلَ المَحرُوماتِ بِالفِعلِ.

Honor widows who are widows indeed;

4 ل َكِنْ إنْ كانَ لِأرمَلَةٍ أبناءٌ وَأحفادٌ، فَعَلَى هَؤُلاءِ أنْ يَتَعَلَّمُوا أوَّلاً مُمارَسَةَ إيمانِهِمْ بِالِاهتِمامِ بِعائِلاتِهِمْ. فَهُمْ بِهَذا يَرُدُّونَ فَضلَ وَالِدَيْهِمْ أوْ أجدادِهِمُ الَّذِينَ رَبُّوهُمْ. وَهَذا مُرضٍ للهِ.

but if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to practice piety in regard to their own family and to make some return to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.

5 ف َالأرمَلَةُ الحَقِيقِيَّةُ الَّتِي لَيسَ لَها مَنْ يَعتَنِي بِها، تَضَعُ رَجاءَها فِي الرَّبِّ، وَتُواظِبُ عَلَى الأدعِيَةِ وَالصَّلَواتِ لَيلَ نَهارٍ.

Now she who is a widow indeed and who has been left alone, has fixed her hope on God and continues in entreaties and prayers night and day.

6 أ مّا الأرمَلَةُ الَّتِي تَحيا لِمَلَذّاتِها، فَهِيَ فِي الحَقيقَةِ مَيِّتَةٌ مَعَ أنَّها حَيَّةٌ!

But she who gives herself to wanton pleasure is dead even while she lives.

7 ف َأوصِ بِهَذِهِ الأُمُورِ لِكَيْ لا يَجِدَ أحَدٌ ما يَنتَقِدُهُنَّ عَلَيهِ.

Prescribe these things as well, so that they may be above reproach.

8 ل َكِنْ إنْ كانَ أحَدٌ لا يَعُولُ أقرِباءَهُ، خاصَّةً عائِلَتَهُ، فَقَدْ تَنَكَّرَ لِلإيمانِ. وَمِثلُ هَذا أسوَأُ مِنْ غَيرِ المُؤمِنِ!

But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

9 ل ا تُدرِجِ امْرأةً فِي قائِمَةِ الأرامِلِ إنْ كانَ عُمرُها أقَلَّ مِنْ سِتِّيْنَ عاماً، أوَ إنْ كانَتْ قَدْ تَطَلَّقَتْ يَوماً وَتَزَوَّجَتْ رَجُلاً آخَرَ.

A widow is to be put on the list only if she is not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,

10 ك َما يَنبَغي أنْ تَكُونَ مَعرُوفَةً بِأعمالِها الصّالِحَةِ، بِما فِيها تَربِيَةُ أبنائِها، وَحُسنُ الضِّيافَةِ، وَغَسلُ أقدامِ المُؤمِنِينَ المُقَدَّسينَ، وَمُساعَدَةُ الَّذِينَ فِي ضِيقٍ، وَتَكرِيسُ نَفسِها لِكُلِّ أنواعِ الأعمالِ الصّالِحَةِ.

having a reputation for good works; and if she has brought up children, if she has shown hospitality to strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has assisted those in distress, and if she has devoted herself to every good work.

11 ف َارفُضْ إدراجَ الأرامِلِ الشّابّاتِ، لِأنَّهُ مَتَى غَلَبَتْ شَهَواتُهُنَّ تَكرِيسَهُنَّ لِلمَسِيحِ، سَيُفَضِّلْنَ الزَّواجَ ثانِيَةً عَلَى خِدمَةِ المَسِيحِ.

But refuse to put younger widows on the list, for when they feel sensual desires in disregard of Christ, they want to get married,

12 و َسَيَكُنَّ عُرضَةً لِلإدانَةِ لِأنَّهُنَّ كَسَرنَ عَهْدَهُنَّ الأوَّلَ.

thus incurring condemnation, because they have set aside their previous pledge.

13 و َفَضلاً عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَإنَّهُنَّ يَكتَسِبنَ عادَةَ الكَسَلِ وَالتَّسَكُّعَ مِنْ بَيتٍ إلَى بَيتٍ. وَلَنْ يُصبِحنَ كَسُولاتٍ فَحَسبُ، بَلْ سَيَبدَأْنَ أيضاً بِالنَّمِيمَةَ وَالتَّدَخُّلَ فِي أُمُورِ الآخَرِينَ، وَالكَلامِ الفارِغِ!

At the same time they also learn to be idle, as they go around from house to house; and not merely idle, but also gossips and busybodies, talking about things not proper to mention.

14 ل ِهَذا أُرِيدُ لِلأرامِلِ الشّابّاتِ أنْ يَتَزَوَّجنَ، وَأنْ يُرَبِّينَ أبناءً، وَأنْ يُدَبِّرنَ بُيُوتَهُنَّ، فَلا يَكَونُ لِمَنْ يُقاوِمُونَنا عُذرٌ فِي انتِقادِنا.

Therefore, I want younger widows to get married, bear children, keep house, and give the enemy no occasion for reproach;

15 أ قُولُ هَذا لِأنَّ بَعضَ الأرامِلِ قَدِ انحَرَفنَ لِيَتبَعنَ إبلِيسَ.

for some have already turned aside to follow Satan.

16 ف َإذا كانَتْ لِمُؤمِنَةٍ أرامِلُ فِي عائِلَتِها، عَلَيها أنْ تُساعِدَهُنَّ، فَلا يَكُنَّ عِبئاً عَلَى الكَنِيسَةِ. حينّئِذٍ تَستَطِيعُ الكَنِيسَةُ أنْ تُساعِدَ الأرامِلَ الحَقِيقِيّاتِ. تَعليماتٌ بِخُصُوصِ الشّيُوخ

If any woman who is a believer has dependent widows, she must assist them and the church must not be burdened, so that it may assist those who are widows indeed. Concerning Elders

17 أ مّا الشُّيُوخُ الَّذِينَ يَقُودُونَ الكَنِيسَةَ بِشَكلٍ حَسَنٍ، فَهُمْ جَدِيرُونَ بِالحُصُولِ عَلَى مُكافَأةٍ مُضاعَفَةٍ، خاصَّةً المُنشَغِلِيْنَ فِي الوَعظِ وَالتَّعلِيمِ.

The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.

18 ف َالكِتابُ يَقُولُ: «لا تُكَمِّمْ ثَوراً وَهُوَ يَدرُسُ القَمحَ.» وَيَقُولُ أيضاً: «أُجرَةُ العامِلِ حَقٌ لَهُ.»

For the Scripture says, “ You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing,” and “ The laborer is worthy of his wages.”

19 ل ا تَقبَلِ اتِّهاماً ضِدَّ أحَدِ الشُّيوخِ ما لَمْ يُدعَمْ بِشاهِدَينِ أوْ ثَلاثَةٍ.

Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses.

20 أ مّا الَّذِينَ يُمارِسونَ الخَطِيَّةَ باستِمرارٍ، فَوَبِّخْهُمْ أمامَ الكَنِيسَةِ كُلِّها، لِكَي يَخافَ البَقِيَّةُ.

Those who continue in sin, rebuke in the presence of all, so that the rest also will be fearful of sinning.

21 أ ُناشِدُكَ أمامَ اللهِ وَالمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ وَالمَلائِكَةِ المُختارِينَ أنْ تُراعِيَ هَذِهِ التَّعلِيماتِ دُونَ أنْ تُصدِرَ أحكاماً مُسْبَقَةً عَلَى أحَدٍ، وَمِنْ دُونِ تَمييزٍ بَينَ شَخصٍ وَآخَرَ.

I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality.

22 ا حرِصْ عَلَى أنْ لا تَتَسَرَّعَ فِي وَضعِ يَدِكَ عَلَى أحَدٍ لإطلاقِهِ فِي خِدمَةِ الرَّبِّ. وَلا تَشتَرِكْ فِي خَطايا الآخَرِينَ، بَلِ احفَظْ نَفسَكَ نَقِيّاً دائِماً.

Do not lay hands upon anyone too hastily and thereby share responsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself free from sin.

23 ل ا تَكتَفِ بِشُربِ الماءِ وَحدَهُ فِيما بَعْدُ، بَلِ استَخدِمْ بَعضَ النَّبيذِ مِنْ أجلِ مَعِدَتِكَ وَاعْتِلالاتِكَ المُتَكَرِّرَةِ.

No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.

24 خ َطايا بَعضُ النّاسِ وَاضِحَةٌ تَماماً، وَهِيَ تَسبِقُهُمْ إلَى المُحاكَمَةِ. وَأمّا بَعْضُهُمْ فَخَطاياهُمْ تَلحَقُ بِهِمْ!

The sins of some men are quite evident, going before them to judgment; for others, their sins follow after.

25 و َالأعمالُ الصّالِحَةُ وَاضِحَةٌ تَماماً أيضاً، لَكِنْ حَتَّى غَيرُ الواضِحَةِ لَنْ تَخفَى إلَى الأبَدِ.

Likewise also, deeds that are good are quite evident, and those which are otherwise cannot be concealed.
