1 E lihu spake moreover, and said,

ثُمَّ قالَ ألِيهُو:

2 T hinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

«أتَحسِبُ أنَّ مِنَ الصَّوابِ أنْ تَقُولَ: ‹أنا أكثَرُ استِقامَةً مِنَ اللهِ›؟

3 F or thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

إنْ قُلْتَ، ‹ماذا أستَفِيدُ؟ كَيفَ أنْتَفِعُ إنْ تِرَكْتُ خَطِيَّتِي؟›

4 I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

«سَأرُدُّ عَلَيكَ وَعَلَى أصحابِكَ الَّذِينَ مَعَكَ،

5 L ook unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.

تَطَلَّعْ إلَى السَّماواتِ وَانظُرْ، فَوقَ الغُيُومِ الَّتِي تَعلُوكَ كَثِيراً.

6 I f thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

اللهُ أعلَى مِنها. إنْ أخطَأْتَ، فَبِماذا تَضُرُّ اللهَ؟ وَإذا كَثَّرتَ مَعاصِيكَ، فَكَيفَ يُؤَثِّرُ هَذا فِيهِ؟

7 I f thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

إنْ كُنتَ بَرِيئاً، فَكَيفَ يَنتَفِعُ بِبَراءَتِكَ؟ أوْ ما الَّذِي يَنالُهُ مِنْ يَدِكَ؟

8 T hy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

لا يُؤَثِّرُ شَرُّكَ إلّا فِي إنسانٍ مِثلِكَ، وَلا تُؤَثِّرُ بَراءَتُكَ إلّا فِي البَشَرِ.

9 B y reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

«يَصرُخُ النّاسُ مِنَ الاضطِهادِ العَظِيمِ، وَيَستَغِيثُونَ بِأحَدٍ يُخَلِّصُهُمْ مِنْ ذِراعِ الأقوِياءِ.

10 B ut none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

وَلا يَقُولُ أحَدٌ مِنهُمْ مُتَذَمِّراً: ‹أينَ اللهُ صانِعِي الَّذِي يُعْطِي أغانِيَ فِي اللَّيلِ،

11 W ho teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

يُعَلِّمُنا أكثَرَ مِنْ وُحُوشِ الأرْضِ، وَيُعطِينا حِكمَةً أكثَرَ مِنْ طُيُورِ السَّماءِ.›

12 T here they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

«قَدْ يَصرُخُونَ فَلا يَستَجِيبُ اللهُ، وَذَلِكَ بِسَبَبِ كِبرِياءِ الأشرارِ.

13 S urely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

حَقّاً، لا يَستَمِعُ اللهُ إلَى الكَلامِ الباطِلِ، وَلا يَلتَفِتُ القَدِيرُ إلَيهِ.

14 A lthough thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.

فَلِماذا تَشْكُو مِنْ أنَّهُ لا يَلتَفِتَ إلَيكَ؟ تَقُولُ إنَّ دَعْواكَ أمامَهُ، فَانتَظِرْ إذاً!

15 B ut now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:

«يَظُنُّ أيُّوبُ أنَّ اللهَ لا يُعاقِبُهُ، وَلا يَبالِي كَثِيراً بِخَطاياهُ،

16 T herefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.

لِذَلِكَ يُواصِلُ أيُّوبَ كَلامَهُ الفارِغَ، وَيُتابِعُ ثَرثَرَتَهُ بِلا مَعرِفَةٍ.»
