1 B ut I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.

لِهَذا قَرَّرتُ ألّا أزُورَكُمْ زِيارَةً أُخْرَى قَدْ تَأتي لَكُمُ بِالألَمِ.

2 F or if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?

فَإنْ سَبَّبتُ لَكُمُ الحُزنَ، فَمَنْ سَيُفرِحُنِي غَيرُكُمْ أنتُمُ الَّذِينَ أحزَنتُكُمْ أنا؟

3 A nd I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.

وَلَقَدْ كَتَبتُ إلَيكُمْ ما كَتَبتُهُ، لِئَلّا يُحزِنَنِي أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ يَنبَغِي أنْ يُفرِحُونِي. فَأنا واثِقٌ أنَّكُمْ تُسَرُّونَ بِسُرُورِي.

4 F or out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

لَقَدْ كَتَبتُ إلَيكُمْ بِقَلبٍ مَلِيءٍ بِالِانزِعاجِ وَالعَذابِ، وَبِدُمُوعٍ كَثِيرَةٍ، لا لِكَي أُحزِنَكُمْ، بَلْ لِتَعرِفُوا عِظَمَ مَحَبَّتِي لَكُمْ. سامِحُوا الَّذِي أخطأ

5 B ut if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.

لَكِنْ إنْ أحزَنَنِي أحَدٌ، فَإنَّهُ لَمْ يُحزِنِّي وَحدِي، بَلْ لا بُدَّ أنَّهُ أحزَنَكُمْ جَمِيعاً بَعضَ الشَّيءِ، لِئَلّا أُبالِغَ.

6 S ufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.

أمّا مِنْ جِهَةِ ذَلِكَ الشَّخصِ الَّذيْ أخطأ، فَيَكفِيهِ العِقابُ الَّذِي أوقَعَتْهُ عَلَيهِ غالِبِيَّتُكُمْ.

7 S o that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

فَيَنبَغي الآنَ أنْ تُسامِحُوهُ وَتُشَجِّعُوهُ، لِئَلّا يَتَمَلَّكَهُ الحُزنُ الشَّدِيدُ.

8 W herefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.

لِهَذا فَإنِّي أرجُوكُمْ أنْ تُؤَكِّدُوا لَهُ مَحَبَّتَكُمْ.

9 F or to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

وَهَذا هُوَ ما دَفَعَنِي إلَى الكِتابَةِ إلَيكُمْ: لِكَي أرَى إنْ كُنتُمْ سَتَصمُدُونَ أمامَ الِامتِحانِ، وَإنْ كُنتُمْ مُطِيعِينَ لِي فِي كُلِّ شَيءٍ.

10 T o whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

فَإنْ سامَحتُمْ أحَداً بِشَيءٍ، فَإنِّي أُسامِحُهُ أنا أيضاً. وَإنْ كُنتُ قَدْ سامَحتُ بِشَيءٍ مَهما كانَ، فَقَدْ سامَحتُ بِهِ مِنْ أجلِكُمْ. وَالمَسِيحُ شاهِدٌ عَلَى ذَلِكَ.

11 L est Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

لِنَفعَلْ ذَلِكَ لِئَلّا يَستَغِلَّنا إبلِيسُ، لِأنَّنا نَعرِفُ أفكارَهُ. انزِعاجُ بُولُسَ فِي تْرُواس

12 F urthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,

لَقَدْ جِئتُ إلَى تْرُواسَ لِأُعلِنَ بِشارَةَ المَسِيحِ. وَفَتَحَ لِي الرَّبُّ باباً هُناكَ.

13 I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.

إلّا أنَّنِي لَمْ أجِدْ راحَةً لِأنِّي لَمْ أجِدْ أخِي تِيطُسَ هُناكَ. فَوَدَّعتُهُمْ وَاتَّجَهتُ إلَى مَكدُونِيَّةَ. الِانتِصارُ في المَسِيح

14 N ow thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

لَكِنْ شُكراً للهِ الَّذِي يَقُودُنا فِي مَوكِبِ انتِصارِهِ بِالمَسِيحِ. فَهُوَ الَّذِي يَنشُرُ شَذَى مَعرِفَتِهِ فِي كُلِّ مَكانٍ بِواسِطَتِنا.

15 F or we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:

فَنَحنُ بَخُورُ المَسِيحِ العَطِرُ المُقَدَّمُ للهِ. وَيَنتَشِرُ هَذا الشَّذَى بَينَ الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي طَرِيقِ الخَلاصِ، وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي طَرِيقِ الهَلاكِ.

16 T o the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

أمّا للَذينَ فِي طَرِيقِ الهَلاكِ فَهُوَ رائِحَةٌ نَتِنَةٌ، المَوتُ مَصدَرُها وَالمَوتُ مَصيرُها. وَأمّا لِلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي طَرِيقِ الخَلاصِ، فَهُوَ شَذَىً مَصدَرُهُ الحَياةُ وَيُؤَدِّي إلَى الحَياةِ. فَمَنْ هُوَ المُؤَهَّلُ لِمِثلِ هَذِهِ المَهَمَّةِ؟

17 F or we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

فَلَسنا باعَةً مُتَجَوِّلِينَ نُتاجِرُ بِكَلِمَةِ اللهِ مِنْ أجلِ رِبحٍ خَسِيسٍ، كَما يَفعَلُ كَثِيرُونَ. بَلْ نَتَكَلَّمُ الصِّدقَ فِي المَسِيحِ أمامَ اللهِ كَرِجالٍ مُرسَلِينَ مِنهُ.
