1 I n those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.

لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي ذَلِكَ الوَقتِ، مَلِكٌ عَلَى إسْرائِيلَ. وَفِي ذَلِكَ الوَقتِ، كانَتْ قَبِيلَةُ دانَ تَسْعَى لِلحُصُولِ عَلَى أراضٍ تَسْكُنُ فِيها. إذْ لَمْ تَكُنْ حَتَّى ذَلِكَ الوَقْتِ قَدْ خُصِّصَتْ أراضٍ لَها بَينَ قَبائِلِ إسْرائِيلَ.

2 A nd the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their coasts, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they lodged there.

فَأرْسَلَ الدّانِيُّونَ خَمْسَةَ رِجالٍ شُجعانٍ مِنْ كُلِّ قَبِيلَتِهِمْ، مِنْ صُرْعَةَ وَمِنْ أشْتَأُولَ لِيَتَفَحَّصُوا الأرْضَ وَيَستَكشِفُوها، وَقالُوا لَهُمْ: «اذْهَبُوا وَاستَكشِفُوا الأرْضَ!» فَذَهَبُوا إلَى مِنْطَقَةِ أفْرايِمَ الجَبَلِيَّةِ، حَتَّى وَصَلُوا إلَى بَيتِ مِيخا، فَباتُوا لَيلَتَهُمْ هُناكَ.

3 W hen they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite: and they turned in thither, and said unto him, Who brought thee hither? and what makest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?

وَبَينَما هُمْ فِي بَيتِ مِيخا، مَيَّزُوا لَهجَةَ الَّلاوِي الشّابِ، فَذَهَبُوا إلَيهِ وَسَألُوهُ: «مَنْ أحضَرَكَ إلَى هُنا؟ وَماذا تَفعَلُ فِي هَذا المَكانِ؟ وَماذا لَكَ فِيْهِ؟»

4 A nd he said unto them, Thus and thus dealeth Micah with me, and hath hired me, and I am his priest.

فَقالَ لَهُمْ: «لَقَدْ فَعَلَ مِيخا كَذا وَكَذا لِي وَوَظَّفَنِي، فَصِرْتُ كاهِنَهُ.»

5 A nd they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.

فَقالُوا لَهُ: «اسْتِفسِرْ مِنَ اللهِ لِكَي تَعرِفَ إنْ كُنّا سَنَنجَحُ فِي مَسعانا.»

6 A nd the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before the Lord is your way wherein ye go.

فَقالَ الكاهِنُ لَهُمْ: «اذْهَبُوا بِسَلامٍ، فَاللهُ ساهِرٌ عَلَى مَسعاكُمْ.»

7 T hen the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.

فَذَهَبَ الرِّجالُ الخَمسَةُ. وَلَمّا وَصَلُوا إلَى لايِشَ، رَأَوْا الشَّعبَ هُناكَ ساكِنِينَ بِأمانٍ حَسَبَ حُكْمِ الصَّيدُونِيِّينَ. كانُوا يَسكُنُونَ فِي هُدُوءٍ وَطُمَأْنِينَةٍ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ هُناكَ مَنْ يُفسِدُ فِي الأرْضِ، وَلا حاكِمٌ ظالِمٌ. وَكانُوا بَعِيدِينَ عَنِ الصَّيدُونِيِّينَ، وَلَمْ تَكُنْ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ أرامَ مُعاهَدَةٌ.

8 A nd they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brethren said unto them, What say ye?

فَجاءُوا إلَى أقرِبائِهِمْ فِي صُرْعَةَ وَأشْتَأُولَ، فَسَألَهُمْ أقرِباؤُهُمْ: «ماذا لَدَيكُمْ مِنْ أخبارٍ؟»

9 A nd they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful to go, and to enter to possess the land.

فَقالُوا: «قُومُوا نَذْهَبْ لِنَهجُمَ عَلَيهِمْ. فَقَدْ رَأينا الأرْضَ وَهِيَ جَيِّدَةٌ جِدّاً. ألَنْ تَفعَلُوا شَيئاً؟ لا تَتَباطَأُوا، بَلِ ادخُلُوا الأرْضَ وَامتَلِكُوها.

10 W hen ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.

عِندَما تَذْهَبُونَ، سَتَأْتُونَ إلَى شَعبٍ مُطمَئِنٍّ، وَالأرْضُ مَفتُوحَةٌ أمامَكُمْ، إذْ ضَمِنَ اللهُ لَكُمُ السَّيطَرَةَ عَلَيها. هِيَ مَكانٌ فِيهِ مِنْ كُلِّ خَيراتِ الأرْضِ.»

11 A nd there went from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of war.

فانطَلَقَ سِتُّ مِئَةِ رَجُلٍ مِنْ قَبِيلَةِ دانَ مُسَلَّحِينَ لِلحَرْبِ، مِنْ صُرْعَةَ وَأشْتَأُولَ.

12 A nd they went up, and pitched in Kirjathjearim, in Judah: wherefore they called that place Mahanehdan unto this day: behold, it is behind Kirjathjearim.

وَذَهَبُوا وَخَيَّمُوا عِنْدَ قَرْيَةِ يَعارِيمَ فِي يَهُوذا. وَلِهَذا سُمِّيَ ذَلِكَ المَكانُ «مُخَيَّمَ دانَ» حَتَّى يَومِنا هَذا. وَهِيَ تَقَعُ إلَى الشَّرْقِ مِنْ قَرْيَةِ يَعارِيمَ.

13 A nd they passed thence unto mount Ephraim, and came unto the house of Micah.

وَمِنْ مُخَيَّمِ دانَ، عَبَرُوا إلَى مِنْطَقَةِ أفْرايِمَ الجَبَلِيَّةِ، وَجاءُوا إلَى بَيتِ مِيخا.

14 T hen answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do.

ثُمَّ تَكَلَّمَ الرِّجالُ الخَمْسَةُ الَّذِينَ سَبَقَ أنْ ذَهَبُوا لاستِكْشافِ الأرْضِ، وَقالُوا لِأقرِبائِهِمْ: «هَلْ تَعلَمُونَ أنَّهُ يُوجَدُ فِي هَذِهِ البُيُوتِ ثَوبٌ كَهَنُوتِيٌّ وَأصنامٌ بَيتِيَّةٌ وَوَثَنٌ مَسبُوكٌ مِنْ مَعدَنٍ؟ فَقَرِّرُوا الآنَ ما يَنْبَغِي أنْ تَفعَلُوهُ.»

15 A nd they turned thitherward, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even unto the house of Micah, and saluted him.

فانعَطَفُوا إلَى ذَلِكَ الاتِّجاهِ. وَجاءُوا إلَى بَيتِ الَّلاوِي الشّابِّ، بَيتِ مِيخا. وَألقَوْا عَلَيهِ التَّحِيَّةَ.

16 A nd the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, which were of the children of Dan, stood by the entering of the gate.

وَكانَ الرِّجالُ الدّانِيُّونَ المُسَلَّحُونَ السِّتُّ مِئَةٍ واقِفِينَ عِندَ مَدخَلِ البَوّابَةِ.

17 A nd the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war.

فَدَخَلَ الرِّجالُ الخَمسَةُ الَّذِينَ سَبَقُوا أنِ اسْتَكْشَفُوا الأرْضَ، وَأخَذُوا التِّمثالَ المَسبُوكَ وَالثَّوبَ الكَهَنُوتِيَّ وَالأصنامَ البَيتِيَّةَ. وَكانَ الكاهِنُ واقِفاً عِندَ مَدْخَلِ البَوّابَةِ مَعَ الرِّجالِ السِّتِّ مِئَةٍ المُسَلَّحِينَ لِلحَرْبِ.

18 A nd these went into Micah's house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, What do ye?

فَلَمّا دَخَلَ هَؤُلاءِ الرِّجالُ بَيتَ مِيخا، وَأخَذُوا الصَّنَمَ وَالثَّوبَ الكَهَنُوتِيَّ وَالأصنامَ البَيتِيَّةَ وَالتِّمثالَ المَسبُوكَ، قالَ الكاهِنُ لَهُمْ: «ما الَّذِي تَفعَلُونَهُ؟»

19 A nd they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?

فَقالُوا لَهُ: «اصْمِتْ! أَغْلِقْ فَمَكَ وَتَعالَ مَعَنا، وَكُنْ أباً وَكاهِناً لَنا. أتُفَضِّلُ أنْ تَكُونَ كاهِناً لِبَيتِ رَجُلٍ واحِدٍ عَلَى أنْ تَكُونَ كاهِناً لِقَبِيلَةٍ وَعَشِيرَةٍ فِي إسْرائِيلَ؟»

20 A nd the priest's heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.

فَسُرَّ الكاهِنُ بِهَذا الكَلامِ، وَأخَذَ الثَّوبَ الكَهَنُوتِيَّ وَالأصنامَ البَيتِيَّةَ وَالصَّنَمَ، وَمَضَى مَعَهُمْ.

21 S o they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the carriage before them.

فَاسْتَدارُوا وَمَضَوا فِي طَرِيقِهِمْ، وَوَضَعُوا صِغارَهُمْ وَمَواشِيهِمْ وَمُمْتَلَكاتِهِمْ فِي المُقَدِّمَةِ.

22 A nd when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.

وَكانُوا بَعِيدِينَ جِدّاً عَنْ بَيتِ مِيخا عِندَما اسْتُدعِيَ الرِّجالُ السّاكِنُونَ فِي البُيُوتِ قُرْبَ بَيتِ مِيخا، لَكِنَّهُمْ أدرَكُوا الدّانِيِّينَ.

23 A nd they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?

وَنادُوا عَلَى الدّانِيِّينَ، فَالْتَفَتَ الدّانِيُّونَ وَقالُوا لِمِيخا: «ما لَكَ قَدِ اسْتَدعَيتَ رِجالَكَ؟»

24 A nd he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee?

فَقالَ لَهُمْ: «لَقَدْ أخَذْتُمْ آلِهَتِي الَّتِي صَنَعْتُها وَكاهِنِي وَغادَرْتُمْ. فَماذا تَبَقَّى لِي؟ وَكَيفَ تَقُولُونَ لِي: ‹ما لَكَ؟›»

25 A nd the children of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows run upon thee, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household.

فَقالَ لَهُ الدّانِيُّونَ: «لا تَرفَعْ صَوتَكَ بَيننا، وَإلّا هاجَمَكَ رِجالٌ غاضِبُونَ، وَقَتَلُوكَ أنتَ وَأهلَ بَيتِكَ.»

26 A nd the children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.

ثُمَّ مَضَى الدّانِيُّونَ فِي طَرِيقِهِمْ. فَلَمّا رَأى مِيخا أنَّهُمْ أقوَى مِنْهُ، عادَ إلَى بَيتِهِ.

27 A nd they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire.

وَهَكَذا أخَذَ الدّانِيُّونَ ما صَنَعَهُ مِيخا، وَأخَذُوا كاهِنَهُ. وَجاءُوا إلَى لايِشَ حَيثُ يَسْكُنُ شَعبٌ مُسالِمٌ مُطمَئِنٌّ، وَقَتَلُوهُمْ بِسُيُوفِهِمْ، وَأحرَقُوا المَدِينَةَ.

28 A nd there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrehob. And they built a city, and dwelt therein.

وَلَمْ يَكُنْ هُناكَ مَنْ يُنقِذُهُمْ، لِأنَّهُمْ بَعِيدِينَ عَنْ صَيدُونَ. وَلَمْ تَكُنْ بَينَهُمْ وَبَينَ أرامَ أيَّةُ مُعاهَدَةٍ. وَكانَتِ المَدِينَةُ فِي الوادِي الَّذِي يَعُودُ إلَى بَيْتِ رَحُوبَ. وَأعادُوا بِناءَ المَدِينَةِ، وَاستَقَرُّوا فِيها.

29 A nd they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.

وَسَمُّوا المَدِينَةَ دانَ عَلَى اسْمِ جَدِّهِمْ دانَ بنِ يَعقُوبَ. وَلَكِنَّ اسْمَ المَدِينَةِ الأصلِيَّ هُوَ لايِشُ.

30 A nd the children of Dan set up the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.

ثُمَّ نَصَبَ الدّانِيُّونَ الصَّنَمَ لِأنفُسِهِمْ. وَخَدَمَ يُوناثانُ بْنُ جَرشُومَ بْنُ مُوسَى، وَأولادُهُ كَكَهَنَةٍ لِعَشِيرَةِ الدّانِيِّينَ حَتَّى سُبْيَ بَنوْ إسْرائِيلَ مِنَ أرْضِهِمْ.

31 A nd they set them up Micah's graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

وَهَكَذا نَصَبُوا لِأنفُسِهِمِ الصَّنَمَ الَّذِي صَنَعَهُ مِيخا، طَوالَ المُدَّةِ الَّتِي كانَ فِيها بَيْتُ اللهِ فِي شِيلُوهَ.
