1 M oreover Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me saying,

2 Y ou, son of man, thus says the Lord Yahweh to the land of Israel, An end: the end has come on the four corners of the land.

“And you, son of man, thus says the Lord God to the land of Israel, ‘An end! The end is coming on the four corners of the land.

3 N ow is the end on you, and I will send my anger on you, and will judge you according to your ways; and I will bring on you all your abominations.

Now the end is upon you, and I will send My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways and bring all your abominations upon you.

4 M y eye shall not spare you, neither will I have pity; but I will bring your ways on you, and your abominations shall be among you: and you shall know that I am Yahweh.

For My eye will have no pity on you, nor will I spare you, but I will bring your ways upon you, and your abominations will be among you; then you will know that I am the Lord!’

5 T hus says the Lord Yahweh: An evil, an only evil; behold, it comes.

“Thus says the Lord God, ‘A disaster, unique disaster, behold it is coming!

6 A n end has come, the end has come; it awakes against you; behold, it comes.

An end is coming; the end has come! It has awakened against you; behold, it has come!

7 Y our doom has come to you, inhabitant of the land: the time has come, the day is near, a day of tumult, and not of joyful shouting, on the mountains.

Your doom has come to you, O inhabitant of the land. The time has come, the day is near—tumult rather than joyful shouting on the mountains.

8 N ow will I shortly pour out my wrath on you, and accomplish my anger against you, and will judge you according to your ways; and I will bring on you all your abominations.

Now I will shortly pour out My wrath on you and spend My anger against you; judge you according to your ways and bring on you all your abominations.

9 M y eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will bring on you according to your ways; and your abominations shall be among you; and you shall know that I, Yahweh, do strike.

My eye will show no pity nor will I spare. I will repay you according to your ways, while your abominations are in your midst; then you will know that I, the Lord, do the smiting.

10 B ehold, the day, behold, it comes: your doom has gone out; the rod has blossomed, pride has budded.

‘Behold, the day! Behold, it is coming! Your doom has gone forth; the rod has budded, arrogance has blossomed.

11 V iolence has risen up into a rod of wickedness. None of them shall remain, nor of their multitude, nor of their wealth. There shall be nothing of value among them.

Violence has grown into a rod of wickedness. None of them shall remain, none of their people, none of their wealth, nor anything eminent among them.

12 T he time has come, the day draws near: don’t let the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn; for wrath is on all its multitude.

The time has come, the day has arrived. Let not the buyer rejoice nor the seller mourn; for wrath is against all their multitude.

13 F or the seller shall not return to that which is sold, although they be yet alive: for the vision is touching the whole multitude of it, none shall return; neither shall any strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life.

Indeed, the seller will not regain what he sold as long as they both live; for the vision regarding all their multitude will not be averted, nor will any of them maintain his life by his iniquity.

14 T hey have blown the trumpet, and have made all ready; but no one goes to the battle; for my wrath is on all its multitude.

‘They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but no one is going to the battle, for My wrath is against all their multitude.

15 T he sword is outside, and the pestilence and the famine within: he who is in the field shall die with the sword: and he who is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him.

The sword is outside and the plague and the famine are within. He who is in the field will die by the sword; famine and the plague will also consume those in the city.

16 B ut those of those who escape shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, every one in his iniquity.

Even when their survivors escape, they will be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, each over his own iniquity.

17 A ll hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weak as water.

All hands will hang limp and all knees will become like water.

18 T hey shall also clothe themselves with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be on all faces, and baldness on all their heads.

They will gird themselves with sackcloth and shuddering will overwhelm them; and shame will be on all faces and baldness on all their heads.

19 T hey shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be as an unclean thing; their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of Yahweh’s wrath: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels; because it has been the stumbling block of their iniquity.

They will fling their silver into the streets and their gold will become an abhorrent thing; their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord. They cannot satisfy their appetite nor can they fill their stomachs, for their iniquity has become an occasion of stumbling. The Temple Profaned

20 A s for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty; but they made the images of their abominations and their detestable things therein: therefore have I made it to them as an unclean thing.

They transformed the beauty of His ornaments into pride, and they made the images of their abominations and their detestable things with it; therefore I will make it an abhorrent thing to them.

21 I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey, and to the wicked of the earth for a plunder; and they shall profane it.

I will give it into the hands of the foreigners as plunder and to the wicked of the earth as spoil, and they will profane it.

22 M y face will I turn also from them, and they shall profane my secret place; and robbers shall enter into it, and profane it.

I will also turn My face from them, and they will profane My secret place; then robbers will enter and profane it.

23 M ake the chain; for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.

‘ Make the chain, for the land is full of bloody crimes and the city is full of violence.

24 T herefore I will bring the worst of the nations, and they shall possess their houses: I will also make the pride of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be profaned.

Therefore, I will bring the worst of the nations, and they will possess their houses. I will also make the pride of the strong ones cease, and their holy places will be profaned.

25 D estruction comes; and they shall seek peace, and there shall be none.

When anguish comes, they will seek peace, but there will be none.

26 M ischief shall come on mischief, and rumor shall be on rumor; and they shall seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the elders.

Disaster will come upon disaster and rumor will be added to rumor; then they will seek a vision from a prophet, but the law will be lost from the priest and counsel from the elders.

27 T he king shall mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with desolation, and the hands of the people of the land shall be troubled: I will do to them after their way, and according to their own judgments will I judge them; and they shall know that I am Yahweh.

The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed with horror, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble. According to their conduct I will deal with them, and by their judgments I will judge them. And they will know that I am the Lord.’”
