1 ي َقُولُ إلَهُكُمْ: «عَزُّوا عَزُّوا شَعبِي.

Comfort, comfort My people, says your God.

2 ت َكَلَّمُوا بِكَلامٍ لَطِيفِ إلَى شَعبِ مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ، أخبِرُوهُمْ بِأنَّ زَمَنَ خِدمَتِهِمْ القاسِيَةِ قَدِ اكتَمَلَ، وَبِأنَّ أُجْرَةَ خَطاياهُمْ قَدْ دُفِعَتْ، وَأنَّ اللهَ قَدْ جازاهُمْ بِيَدِهِ جَزاءً مُضاعَفاً عَلَى كُلِّ خَطاياهُمْ.»

Speak tenderly to the heart of Jerusalem, and cry to her that her time of service and her warfare are ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.

3 ه ُناكَ صَوتٌ يُنادِي: «أعِدُّوا الطَّرِيقَ للهِ ، مَهِّدُوا فِي البّرِّيَّةِ طَريقاً لإلِهَنِا.

A voice of one who cries: Prepare in the wilderness the way of the Lord; make straight and smooth in the desert a highway for our God!

4 ي َنْبَغِي أنْ يَرتَفِعَ كُلُّ وَادٍ، وَيُسَوَّى كُلُّ جَبَلٍ وَتَلَّةٍ بِالأرْضِ. تَستَوِي الأرْضُ كَثِيرَةُ التَّعَرُّجاتِ، وَالأرْضُ الوَعِرَةُ تَصِيرُ مُمَهَّدَةً.

Every valley shall be lifted and filled up, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked and uneven shall be made straight and level, and the rough places a plain.

5 ح ِينَئِذٍ، يُعلَنُ مَجدُ اللهِ ، وَسَيَراهُ كُلُّ النّاسِ، لأنَّ فَمَ اللهِ قَدْ تَكَلَّمَ.»

And the glory (majesty and splendor) of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.

6 ق الَ لِي صَوتٌ: «نادِ.» فَقُلْتُ: «بِماذا أُنادِي؟» فَقالَ: «البَشَرُ جَمِيعاً كَالعُشْبِ، وَثَباتُهُمْ كَثَباتِ الزُّهُورِ البَرِّيَّةِ.

A voice says, Cry! And I said, What shall I cry? All flesh is as frail as grass, and all that makes it attractive is transitory, like the flower of the field.

7 ا لعُشْبُ يَجِفُّ، وَالزَّهْرُ يَسقُطُ، عِندَما تَهُبُّ رِيحُ اللهِ عَلَيها. إنَّما النّاسُ كَالعُشبِ.

The grass withers, the flower fades, when the breath of the Lord blows upon it; surely the people are like grass.

8 ا لعُشبُ يَجِفُّ، وَالزُّهُورُ تَذبُلُ وَتَسقُطُ، وَأمّا كَلِمَةُ إلَهِنا فَتَبقَى إلَى الأبَدِ.» بِشارَةُ الخَلاص

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

9 ا صعَدِي عَلَى جَبَلٍ عالٍ، يا صِهْيَوْنَ، يا مُعلِنَةَ البِشارَةَ. ارفَعِي صَوتَكِ وَتَكَلَّمِي. يا قُدسُ، يا مُعلِنَةَ البِشارَةَ، لا تَخافِي، ارفَعِي صَوتَكِ وَاصرُخِي! قُولِي لِمُدُنِ يَهُوذا: «ها هُوَ إلَهُكِ.»

O you who bring good tidings to Zion, get up to the high mountain. O you who bring good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength, lift it up, be not afraid; say to the cities of Judah, Behold your God!

10 ه ُوَذا الرَّبُّ الإلَهُ سَيَأتِي بِقُوَّةٍ، وَسَيَحكُمُ بِقُوَّتِهِ. وَها هُوَ يأتِي بِمُكافَآتِهِ وَبِأعْمالِهِ العَظِيمَةِ إلَينا!

Behold, the Lord God will come with might, and His arm will rule for Him. Behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him.

11 س َيَعتَنِي بِشَعبِهِ كَما يَعتَنِي الرّاعِي بِقَطِيعِهِ، سَيَجمَعُ الحِملانَ بِذِراعَيهِ، وَسَيَحمِلُها فِي حِضنِهِ، وَسَيَقُودُ مُرضِعاتِ القَطِيعِ إلَى جانِبِهِ. اللهُ خَلَقَ العالَمَ، وَهُوَ يَحكُمُه

He will feed His flock like a shepherd: He will gather the lambs in His arm, He will carry them in His bosom and will gently lead those that have their young.

12 م َنْ قاسَ مِياهَ البَحرِ بِراحَةِ يَدِهِ؟ مَنْ قاسَ السَّماواتِ بِشِبرِهِ؟ مَنْ كالَ كُلَّ تُرابِ الأرْضِ بِالكَيلِ؟ مَنْ وَزَنَ الجِبالَ بِالقَبّانِ، وَالتِّلالَ بِالمِيزانِ؟

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?

13 م َنْ وَجَّهَ رُوحَ اللهِ ، أوْ مَنْ عَلَّمَهُ وَصارَ مُشِيراً لَهُ؟

Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has taught Him?

14 م َنْ أعطاهُ نَصِيحَةً لِيَتَعَلَّمَ ماذا يَفْعَلُ؟ وَمَنْ عَلَّمَهُ كَيفَ يَكُونُ عادِلاً؟ مَنْ عَلَّمَهُ المَعرِفَةَ، وَدَلَّهُ عَلَى طَرِيقِ الفَهمِ؟

With whom did He take counsel, that instruction might be given Him? Who taught Him the path of justice and taught Him knowledge and showed Him the way of understanding?

15 ه ا إنَّ الأُمَمَ كَنُقطَةٍ مِنْ دَلوٍ، وَيُحسَبُونَ كَذَرّاتِ الغُبارِ عَلَى المِيزانِ. ها إنَّهُ يَرفَعُ الجُزُرَ عَلَى المِياهِ كَالغُبارِ النّاعِمِ.

Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket and are counted as small dust on the scales; behold, He takes up the isles like a very little thing.

16 أ شجارُ لُبنانَ غَيرُ كافِيَةٍ لإشعالِ نارِ المَذابِحِ، وَحَيواناتُهُ لا تَكفِي لِلتَّقدِماتِ.

And all Lebanon’s cannot supply sufficient fuel, nor all its wild beasts furnish victims enough to burn sacrifices.

17 ك ُلُّ الأُمَمِ كَأنَّها لا شَيءَ أمامَهُ، وَهُوَ يَحسِبُهُمْ كَعَدَمٍ وَهَباءٍ. اللهُ الَّذِي لا يُقارَن بِشَيء

All the nations are as nothing before Him; they are regarded by Him as less than nothing and emptiness (waste, futility, and worthlessness).

18 ب ِمَنْ تُشَبِّهُونَ اللهُ؟ وَبِمَن تُقارِنُونَهُ؟

To whom then will you liken God? Or with what likeness will you compare Him?

19 أ بِصَنَمٍ يَسبُكُهُ الصّانِعُ، وَيُغَشِّيهِ بِالذَّهَبِ، وَيَصنَعُ لَهُ أوتاداً مِنْ فِضَّةٍ؟

The graven image! A workman casts it, and a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts silver chains for it.

20 ي َختارُ أفضَلَ الخَشَبِ لِقاعِدَةِ الوَثَنِ، يَختارُ خَشَباً لا يَتَعَفَّنُ. ثُمَّ يَبحَثُ عَنْ صانِعٍ ماهِرٍ لِيَصنَعَ لَهُ وَثَناً لا يَتَفَكَّكُ.

He who is so impoverished that he has no offering or oblation or rich gift to give chooses a tree that will not rot; he seeks out a skillful craftsman to carve and set up an image that will not totter or deteriorate.

21 أ لَمْ تَعرِفُوا؟ ألَمْ تَسمَعُوا؟ ألَمْ تُخبَرُوا مِنَ البِدايَةِ؟ ألَمْ تَفهَمُوا مُنذُ تَأسِيسِ العالَمِ؟

Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?

22 ه ُوَ الجالِسُ عَلَى عَرشِهِ فَوقَ دائِرَةِ الأرْضِ، الَّتِي فِيها النّاسُ كَالجَنادِبِ. هُوَ مَنْ نَشَرَ السَّماواتِ كَحِجابٍ، وَهُوَ مَنْ بَسَطَها كَخَيمَةٍ لِلعَيشِ فِيها.

It is God Who sits above the circle (the horizon) of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; it is He Who stretches out the heavens like curtains and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in,

23 و َهُوَ الَّذِي يَجعَلُ حُكّامَ الأرْضِ وَأُمَراءَها كَالعَدَمِ.

Who brings dignitaries to nothing, Who makes the judges and rulers of the earth as chaos (emptiness, falsity, and futility).

24 ك َنَبْتاتٍ زُرِعَتْ قَبلَ فَترَةٍ قَصِيرَةٍ، لَيسَ لها جُذُورٌ بَعدُ. فَعِندَما يَهُبُّ بِرِيحِهِ، يَجِفُّونَ، وَتَحمِلُهُمُ الرِّياحُ العاصِفَةُ كَالقَشِّ.

Yes, these men are scarcely planted, scarcely are they sown, scarcely does their stock take root in the earth, when blows upon them and they wither, and the whirlwind or tempest takes them away like stubble.

25 ي َقُولُ القُدُّوسُ: «بِمَنْ تُشَبِّهُونِي، وَبِمَنْ تُعادِلُونَنِي؟»

To whom then will you liken Me, that I should be equal to him? says the Holy One.

26 ا رفَعُوا عُيُونَكُمْ إلَى الأعلَى وَانظُرُوا. مَنْ خَلَقَ هَذِهِ الأشياءَ؟ إنَّهُ هُوَ مَنْ يَقُودُ جَيشَ النُّجُومِ واحِداً فَواحِداً، وَيَدعُوها جَمِيعَها بِأسماءٍ. وَبِسَبَبِ قُوَّتِهِ العَظِيمَةِ وَقُدرَتِهِ الشَّدِيدَةِ لا يُفقَدُ أحَدٌ مِنها.

Lift up your eyes on high and see! Who has created these? He Who brings out their host by number and calls them all by name; through the greatness of His might and because He is strong in power, not one is missing or lacks anything.

27 ي ا يَعقُوبُ، لِماذا تَتَذَمَّرُ، وَيا إسْرائِيلُ، لِماذا تَقُولُ: «طَرِيقِي مَخفِيٌّ عَنِ اللهِ ، وَ اللهُ لا يَهتَمُّ بِحَقِّي؟»

Why, O Jacob, do you say, and declare, O Israel, My way and my lot are hidden from the Lord, and my right is passed over without regard from my God?

28 أ لَمْ تَعلَمْ؟ ألَمْ تَسمَعْ؟ اللهُ هُوَ الإلَهُ الأبَدِيُّ، خالِقُ كُلِّ الأرْضِ. وَلا يُصابُ بِالتَّعَبِ أوِ الإنهاكِ. لا يَستَطِيعُ أحَدٌ فَهمَ حِكمَتِهِ تَماماً.

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint or grow weary; there is no searching of His understanding.

29 ي ُعطِي قُوَّةً لِلمُتعَبِ، وَلِعَدِيمِ القُوَّةِ يَمنَحُ قُدرَةً.

He gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength.

30 ا لأولادُ يَتعَبُونَ وَيُنهَكُونَ، وَالفِتيانُ يَعيَونَ وَيَسقُطُونَ،

Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall feebly stumble and fall exhausted;

31 أ مّا الَّذِينَ يَضَعُونَ رَجاءَهُمْ فِي اللهِ فَسَيُجَدِّدُونَ قُوَّتَهُمْ، سَيُحَلِّقُونَ بِأجنِحَةٍ كَالنُّسُورِ. سَيَركُضُونَ وَلا يُنهَكُونَ، وَسَيَمشُونَ وَلا يَتعَبُونَ.

But those who wait for the Lord shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up as eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.
