1 و َبَنَى داوُدُ بِناياتٍ لِنَفْسِهِ فِي مَدِينَةِ داوُدَ، ثُمَّ أعَدَّ مَكاناً لِصُنْدُوقِ اللهِ، وَنَصَبَ خَيمَةً لَهُ.

David made for himself houses in the City of David, and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.

2 ث ُمَّ قالَ داوُدُ: «لا يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَحْمِلَ صُنْدُوقَ عَهْدِ اللهِ غَيرُ اللّاوِيِّينَ، لِأنَّ اللهَ اختارَهُمْ لِكَي يَحمِلُوا صُنْدُوقَ اللهِ وَيَخدِمُوهُ لِلأبَدِ.»

Then David said, None should carry the ark of God but the Levites, for the Lord chose them to carry the ark of God and to minister to Him forever.

3 ف َجَمَعَ داوُدُ كُلَّ إسْرائِيلَ فِي القُدْسِ لِكَي يُصْعِدُوا صُنْدُوقَ اللهِ إلَى مَكانِهِ الَّذِي أعَدَّهُ لَهُ.

And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the Lord to its place, which he had prepared for it.

4 و َجَمَعَ داوُدُ بَنِي هارُونَ وَالَّلاوِيِّينَ:

And David gathered together the sons of Aaron and the Levites:

5 م ِنْ بَنِي قَهاتَ: أُورِيئِيلَ الرَّئِيسَ وَمِئَةً وَعِشْرِينَ مِنْ أقارِبِهِ.

Of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, with 120 kinsmen;

6 م ِنْ بَنِي مَرارِي: عَسايا الرَّئِيسَ وَمِئَتَينِ وَعِشْرِينَ مِنْ أقارِبِهِ.

Of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, with 220 kinsmen;

7 م ِنْ بَنِي جَرْشُومَ: يُوئِيلَ الرَّئِيسَ وَمِئَةً وَثَلاثِينَ مِنْ أقارِبِهِ.

Of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, with 130 kinsmen;

8 م ِنْ بَنِي ألِيصافانَ: شَمَعْيا الرَّئِيسَ وَمِئَتَينِ مِنْ أقارِبِهِ.

Of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, with 200 kinsmen;

9 م ِنْ بَنِي حَبْرُونَ: إيلِيئِيلَ الرَّئِيسَ وَثَمانِينَ مِنْ أقارِبِهِ.

Of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, with 80 kinsmen;

10 م ِنْ بَنِي عُزِّيئِيلَ: عَمِّينادابَ الرَّئِيسَ وَمِئَةً وَاثْنَي عَشَرَ مِنْ أقارِبِهِ. داوُدُ يُخاطِبُ الكَهَنَةَ وَاللّاوِيّين

Of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, with 112 kinsmen.

11 ث ُمَّ اسْتَدْعَى داوُدُ صادُوقَ وَأبِياثارَ الكاهِنَيْنِ، وَأُورِيئِيلَ وَعَسايا وَيُوئِيلَ وَشَمَعْيا وَإيلِيئِيلَ وَعَمِّينادابَ اللّاوِيِّينَ.

And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites—Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab,

12 و َقالَ لَهُمْ: «أنتُمْ رُؤَساءُ عائِلاتِ الَّلاوِيِّينَ. فَعَلَيكُمْ أنتُمْ وَأقْرِباؤُكُمْ أنْ تَتَطَهَّرُوا، لِكَي تُصْعِدُوا صُنْدُوقَ اللهِ ، إلَهِ إسْرائِيلَ، إلَى المَكانِ الَّذِي أعْدَدْتُهُ لَهُ.

And said to them, You are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites; sanctify yourselves, both you and your brethren, that you may bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place that I have prepared for it.

13 ل ِأنَّكُمْ لَمْ تَكُونُوا مَعْنا فِي المَرَّةِ الأُولَى، وَقَعَ غَضَبُ إلَهِنا عَلَينا، لِأنَّنا لَمْ نَطلُبْ مِنْهُ أنْ يعلِّمَنا الطريقةَ السَّلِيمةَ لنقلِ الصُّنْدُوقِ.»

For because you bore it not at the first, the Lord our God broke forth upon us—because we did not seek Him in the way He ordained.

14 ف َطَهَّرَ الكَهَنَةُ وَالَّلاوِيُّونَ أنفُسَهُمْ، لِكَي يُصْعِدُوا صُنْدُوقَ اللهِ ، إلَهِ إسْرائِيلَ.

So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel.

15 ف َحَمَلَ الَّلاوِيُّونَ صُنْدُوقَ عَهْدِ اللهِ عَلَى اكتافِهِمْ مُسْتَخدِمِينَ العِصِيَّ كَما سَبَقَ أنْ أمَرَ مُوسَى، حَسَبَ تَعلِيماتِ اللهِ. المُرَنِّمُون

The Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles, as Moses commanded by the word of the Lord.

16 و َطَلَبَ داوُدُ أيضاً إلَى رُؤَساءِ الَّلاوِيِّينَ أنْ يُقِيمُوا أقارِبَهُمُ المُرَنِّمِينَ، لِيَرْفَعُوا أصْواتَهُمُ ابْتِهاجاً بِمُصاحَبَةِ آلاتٍ مُوسِيقِيَّةٍ: رَبابٍ وَقَياثِيرَ وَصُنُوجٍ.

David told the chief Levites to appoint their brethren the singers with instruments of music—harps, lyres, and cymbals—to play loudly and lift up their voices with joy.

17 ف َعَيَّنَ الَّلاوِيُّونَ هَيْمانَ بْنَ يُوئِيلَ، وَمِنْ أقارِبِهِ آسافَ بْنَ بَرَخْيا، وَمِنْ أقارِبِهِمِ المَرارِيِّينَ إيثانَ بْنَ قُوشِيّا.

So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan son of Kushaiah;

18 و َيُساعِدُهُمْ أقارِبُهُمْ مِنَ الفِرقَةِ الثّانِيَةِ زَكَرِيّا وَيَعْزِيئِيلُ وَشَمِيرامُوثُ وَيَحِيئِيلُ وَعُنِّي وَألِيآبُ وَبَنايا وَمَعَسْيا وَمَتَّثْيا وَألِيفَلْيا وَمَقَنْيا وَالبَوّابانِ عُوبِيدُ أدُومُ وَيَعِيئِيلُ.

And with them their brethren of the second class: Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, and Mikneiah, and also the gatekeepers, Obed-edom and Jeiel.

19 ف َكانَتْ مَهَمَّةُ المُوسِيقِيِّينَ هَيمانَ وَآسافَ وَإيثانَ أنْ يَقْرَعُوا الصُّنُوجَ.

So the singers Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound bronze cymbals;

20 و َمَهَمَّةُ زَكَرِيّا وَعُزِّيئِيلَ وَشَمِيرامُوثَ وَيَحِيئِيلَ وَعُنِّي وَألِيآبَ وَمَعَسْيا وَبَنايا أنْ يَرُدُّوا بِالقَياثِيرَ وَفْقَ لَحنِ عَلامُوثَ.

Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah were to play harps set to Alamoth;

21 و َمَهَمَّةُ مَتَّثْيا وَألِيفَلْيا وَمَقَنْيا وَعُوبِيدَ أدُومَ وَيَعِيئِيلَ وَعَزَرْيا أنْ يَعزِفُوا وَفْقَ لَحنِ الشِّمِينِثِ.

Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah were to lead with lyres set to Sheminith.

22 و َمَهَمَّةُ كَنَنْيا، قائِدِ الَّلاوِيِّينَ فِي المُوسِيقَى، أنْ يُوَجِّهَ المُوسِيقَى، لِأنَّهُ كانَ خَبيراً بِها.

Chenaniah, leader of the Levites in singing, was put in charge of carrying the ark and lifting up song. He instructed about these matters because he was skilled and able.

23 و َكانَ بَرَخْيا وَألقانَةُ بَوّابَيْنَ لِلصُنْدُوقِ.

Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.

24 و َكَذَلِكَ عُوبِيدُ أدُومُ وَيَحِيَّى كانا بَوّابَينِ أيضاً لِلصُنْدُوقِ. أمّا مَهَمَّةُ الكَهَنَةِ شَبَنْيا وَيَهُوشافاطَ وَنَثْنَئِيلُ وَعَماسايَ وَزَكَرِيّا وَبَنايا وَألِيعَزَرَ فَهِيَ أنْ يَنفُخُوا بِالأبْواقِ أمامَ صُنْدُوقِ عَهْدِ اللهِ.

Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer the priests were to blow the trumpets before the ark of God. And Obed-edom and Jehiah (Jeiel) were also gatekeepers for the ark.

25 و َكانَ داوُدُ وَشُيُوخُ إسْرائِيلَ، وَقادَةُ الأُلُوفِ فِي طَرِيقِهِمْ لإصْعادِ صُنْدُوقِ عَهْدِ اللهِ مِنْ بَيتِ عُوبِيدَ أدُومَ بابْتِهاجٍ.

So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the house of Obed-edom with joy.

26 و َأعانَ اللهُ الَّلاوِيِّينَ الَّذِينَ كانُوا يَحمِلُونَ صُنْدُوقَ عَهْدِ اللهِ. وَذَبَحُوا للهِ سَبْعَةَ ثِيرانٍ وَسَبْعَةَ كِباشٍ.

And when God helped the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, they offered seven bulls and seven rams.

27 و َكانَ داوُدُ وَكُلُّ الَّلاوِيِّينَ الحامِلِينَ الصُّنْدُوقَ، وَالمُوسِيقِيُّونَ، وَكَنَنْيا قائِدُ المُوسِيقَى يَلْبِسُونَ أردِيَةً كِتّانِيَّةً. وَلَبِسَ داوُدُ رِداءً كِتّانِيّاً.

David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were the Levites who bore the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah, director of the music of the singers. David also wore an ephod of linen.

28 ف َأصْعَدَتْ كُلُّ إسْرائِيلَ صُنْدُوقَ عَهْدِ اللهِ بِصَيحاتِ فَرَحٍ، مَعَ صَوْتِ الأصْوارِ وَالأبْواقِ، وَمَعَ الصُّنُوجِ وَالرَبابِ وَالقَياثِيرِ.

Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting, sound of the cornet, trumpets, and cymbals, sounding aloud with harps and lyres.

29 و َمَعَ دُخُولِ صُنْدُوقِ عَهدِ اللهِ إلَى مَدِينَةِ داوُدَ، أطَلَّتْ مِيكالُ بِنتُ شاوُلَ مِنَ النّافِذَةِ، فَرَأتْ داوُدَ يَقْفِزُ وَيَرْقُصُ، فَاحْتَقَرَتْهُ فِي قَلْبِها.

As the ark of the covenant of the Lord came to the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul, looking from a window, saw King David leaping as in sport, and she despised him in her heart.
