1 و َخَلَفَ يَهُوشافاطُ أباهُ آسا فِي الحُكمِ. وَقَوَّى يَهُوشافاطُ يَهُوذا ضِدَّ إسْرائِيلَ.

Jehoshaphat his son reigned in Asa’s stead and strengthened himself against Israel.

2 ف َوَضَعَ فِرَقاً مِنَ الجُنُودِ فِي كُلِّ مُدُنِ يَهُوذا المُحَصَّنَةِ. وَبَنَى يَهُوشافاطُ حُصُوناً فِي يَهُوذا وَفي مُدُن أفْرايِمَ الَّتِي استَولَى عَلَيها أبُوهُ.

And he placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim which Asa his father had taken.

3 و َكانَ اللهُ مَعَ يَهُوشافاطَ لِأنَّهُ عَملَ الأُمُورَ الصّالحَةَ الَّتي عَمِلَها جَدُّهُ داوُدُ. وَلَمْ يَتبَعْ أوثانَ البَعلِ،

The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the first ways of his father. He did not seek the Baals

4 ب َلْ طَلَبَ إلَهَ آبائِهُ، وَعَملَ بِوَصاياهِ. وَلَمْ يَعِشْ كَما عاشَ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ.

But sought and yearned with all his desire for the Lord, the God of his father, and walked in His commandments and not after the ways of Israel.

5 ف َقَوَّى اللهُ حُكمَهُ وَثَبَّتَهُ عَلَى يَهُوذا. وَأحَبَّهُ شَعبُ يَهُوذا وَقَدَّمُوا لَهُ هَدايا. فَكانَ لَدَى يَهُوشافاطَ ثَروَةٌ وَكَرامَةٌ كَبيرَتانِ.

Therefore the Lord established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he had great riches and honor.

6 و َتَلَذَّذَ قَلبُ يَهُوشافاطَ بِسُلُوكِهِ وَفْقَ طُرُقِ اللهِ ، وَأزالَ المُرتَفَعات وَأعمِدَةَ عَشْتَرُوتَ منْ أرْضِ يَهُوذا.

His heart was cheered and his courage was high in the ways of the Lord; moreover, he took away the high places and the Asherim out of Judah.

7 و َأرسَلَ يَهُوشافاطُ فِي السَّنَة الثّالِثَةِ مِنْ حُكمِهِ قادَتَهُ ليُعَلِّمُوا فِي مُدُنِ يَهُوذا. وَهَؤُلاءِ القادَةُ هُمْ بنْحائِلُ وَعُوبَدْيا وَزَكَرِيّا وَنَثَنْئِيلَ وَمِيْخايا.

Also in the third year of his reign he sent his princes Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the cities of Judah;

8 و َأرسَلَ أيضاً لاوِيِّينَ مَعَ هَؤُلاءِ القادَةِ. وَهَؤُلاءِ الَّلاوِيُّونَ هُمْ شَمَعْيا وَنَثَنْيا وَزَبَدْيا وَعَسائِيلُ وَشَمِيرامُوثُ وَيَهُوناثانُ وَأدُونِيّا وَطُوبِيّا. وَأرسَلَ مَعَهُمْ أيضاً الكاهنَينِ ألِيشَمَعَ وَيَهُورامَ.

And with them were the Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah; and with these Levites were the priests Elishama and Jehoram.

9 ف َعَلَّمَ هَؤُلاءِ القادَةُ وَالَّلاويُّونَ وَالكاهِنانِ الشَّعبَ في يَهُوذا. وَكانَ مَعَهُمْ كِتابُ شَرِيعَةِ اللهِ. فَجالُوا فِي كُلِّ مُدُنِ يَهُوذا وَعَلَّمُوا الشَّعبَ.

And they taught in Judah, and had the Book of the Law of the Lord with them; they went about throughout all the cities of Judah and taught among the people.

10 و َكانَتِ الشُّعُوبُ المُحِيطَةُ بِيَهُوذا تَهابُ اللهَ. وَلهَذا لَمْ تُحارِبْ يَهُوشافاطَ.

And a terror from the Lord fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

11 و َأحضَرَ بَعضُ الفِلَسطِيِّينَ هَدايا وَفِضَّةً لِلمَلِكِ يَهُوشافاطَ لِأنَّهُمْ عَرَفُوا أنَّهُ مَلِكٌ قَوِيٌّ. وَأتَى بَعضُ العَرَبِ بِمَواشِيَ لِيَهُوشافاطَ. فَجَلَبُوا إلَيه سَبعَةَ آلافٍ وَسَبعَ مِئَةِ كَبْشٍ وَسَبعَةَ آلافٍ وَسَبعَ مئَةِ تَيسٍ.

And some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and tribute silver, and the Arabs brought him flocks: 7, 700 each of rams and of he-goats.

12 و َازْدادَ يَهُوشافاطُ قُوَّةً وَعَظَمَةً، فَبَنَى حُصُوناً وَمُدُنَ مَخازِنَ في يَهُوذا.

And Jehoshaphat became very great. He built in Judah fortresses and store cities,

13 و َخَزَنَ فِيها مُؤَناً كَثِيرَةً. وَكانَ يَهُوشافاطُ يَحتَفِظُ بِجُنُودٍ مُقاتِلِينَ فِي القُدسِ.

And he had many works in the cities of Judah, and soldiers, mighty men of courage, in Jerusalem.

14 و َهَذِهِ قائِمَةٌ بِالجُنُودِ حَسَبَ عَشائِرِهِمْ: قادَةُ الأُلُوفِ منْ قَبِيلَةِ يَهُوذا: عَدْنَةُ عَلَى ثَلاثِ مئَةِ ألفِ جُنديٍّ مُقاتِلٍ،

This was the number of them by their fathers’ houses: Of Judah, the captains of thousands: Adnah the chief, with 300, 000 mighty men of valor;

15 ي َهُوناثانُ عَلَى مِئَتَينِ وَثَمانينَ ألفِ جُندِيٍّ مُقاتِلٍ،

Next to him was Jehohanan the captain, with 280, 000;

16 ع َمَسْيا بْنِ زِكْرِي عَلَى مِئَتَي ألفِ جُندِيٍّ مُقاتِلٍ. وَكانَ عَمَسْيا قَدْ تَطَوَّعَ لخِدمَةِ اللهِ.

And next to him Amasiah son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself to the Lord, with 200, 000 mighty men of valor.

17 ق ادَةُ الأُلُوفِ منْ قَبِيلَةِ بَنْيامِينَ: ألياداعُ عَلَى مِئَتَي ألفِ جُندِيٍّ مُقاتِلٍ، كُلُّهُمْ مُسَلَّحُونَ بِأقواسٍ وَسهامٍ وَتُرُوسٍ،

Of Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, with 200, 000 men armed with bow and shield;

18 ي َهُوزابادُ عَلَى مئَةٍ وَثَمانِينَ ألفَ رَجُلٍ مُسَلَّحٍ للحَربِ.

Next to him was Jehozabad with 180, 000 armed for war.

19 خ َدَمَ هَؤُلاءِ الجُنُودُ المَلِكَ يَهُوشافاطَ. وَكانَ لَدَى المَلِكِ أيضاً رِجالٌ آخَرُونَ فِي الحُصُونِ فِي كُلِّ أرْضِ يَهُوذا.

These were in the king’s service, besides those had placed in fortified cities throughout all Judah.
