If the thief be encountered breaking in, and be smitten so that he die, there shall be no blood-guiltiness for him.

3 B ut if the sun has risen, blood must be shed for slaying him. The thief must make full restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

If the sun be risen on him, there shall be blood-guiltiness for him; he should have made full restitution: if he had nothing, he would have been sold for his theft.

4 I f the beast which he stole is found in his possession alive, whether it is ox or ass or sheep, he shall restore double.

If the stolen thing be actually found alive in his hand, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep, he shall restore double.

5 I f a man causes a field or vineyard to be grazed over or lets his beast loose and it feeds in another man’s field, he shall make restitution of the best of his own field or his own vineyard.

If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and put in his cattle, and pasture in another man's field, of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard shall he make good.

7 I f a man delivers to his neighbor money or goods to keep and it is stolen out of the neighbor’s house, then, if the thief is found, he shall pay double.

—If a man deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him restore double;

8 B ut if the thief is not found, the house owner shall appear before God to find whether he stole his neighbor’s goods.

if the thief be not found, the master of the house shall be brought before the judges, if he has not put his hand unto his neighbour's goods.

9 F or every unlawful deed, whether it concerns ox, donkey, sheep, clothing, or any lost thing at all, which another identifies as his, the cause of both parties shall come before God. Whomever shall condemn shall pay his neighbor double.

As to all manner of fraud,—as to ox, as to ass, as to sheep, as to clothing, as to everything lost, of which saith, It is this—the cause of both parties shall come before the judges: he whom the judges shall condemn shall restore double to his neighbour.

10 I f a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey or an ox or a sheep or any beast to keep and it dies or is hurt or driven away, no man seeing it,

If a man deliver unto his neighbour an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any cattle, to keep, and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, and no man see,

11 T hen an oath before the Lord shall be required between the two that the man has not taken his neighbor’s property; and the owner of it shall accept his word and not require him to make good the loss.

an oath of Jehovah shall be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbour's goods; and the owner of it shall accept it, and he shall not make good.

12 B ut if it is stolen when in his care, he shall make restitution to its owner.

But if it have been stolen from him, he shall make good unto its owner.

13 I f it be torn in pieces, let him bring for witness; he shall not make good what was torn.

If it have been torn in pieces, let him bring it witness: he shall not make good what was torn.

14 A nd if a man borrows anything of his neighbor and it gets hurt or dies without its owner being with it, the borrower shall make full restitution.

—And if a man borrow anything of his neighbour, and it be hurt, or die, its owner not being with it, he shall fully make it good;

15 B ut if the owner is with it, the borrower shall not make it good. If it is a hired thing, the damage is included in its hire.

if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make good; if it be a hired, it came for its hire.

16 I f a man seduces a virgin not betrothed and lies with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to become his wife.

And if a man seduce a virgin that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall certainly endow her, to be his wife.

17 I f her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money equivalent to the dowry of virgins.

If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall weigh money according to the dowry of virgins.

21 Y ou shall not wrong a stranger or oppress him; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him; for ye have been strangers in the land of Egypt.

22 Y ou shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child.

Ye shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child.

23 I f you afflict them in any way and they cry at all to Me, I will surely hear their cry;

If thou afflict him in any way, if he cry at all unto me, I will certainly hear his cry;

24 A nd My wrath shall burn; I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall be widows and your children fatherless.

and my anger shall burn, and I will slay you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

25 I f you lend money to any of My people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor, neither shall you require interest from him.

—If thou lend money to my people, the poor with thee, thou shalt not be to him as a usurer: ye shall charge him no interest.

26 I f you ever take your neighbor’s garment in pledge, you shall give it back to him before the sun goes down;

—If thou at all take thy neighbour's garment in pledge, thou shalt return it to him before the sun goes down;

27 F or that is his only covering, his clothing for his body. In what shall he sleep? When he cries to Me, I will hear, for I am gracious and merciful.

for that is his only covering, his garment for his skin: on what shall he lie down? And it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

28 Y ou shall not revile God or esteem lightly or curse a ruler of your people.

Thou shalt not revile the judges, nor curse a prince amongst thy people.

29 Y ou shall not delay to bring to Me from the fullness and the outflow; give Me the firstborn of your sons.

—Thou shalt not delay the fulness of thy and the outflow of thy. The firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.

30 L ikewise shall you do with your oxen and your sheep. Seven days the firstborn shall be with its mother; on the eighth day you shall give it to Me.

Likewise shalt thou do with thy calf, with thy sheep: seven days shall it be with its dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.

31 A nd you shall be holy men to Me; therefore you shall not eat any flesh that is torn by beasts in the field; you shall throw it to the dogs.

—And ye shall be holy men unto me; and ye shall not eat flesh torn in the field: ye shall cast it to the dog.
