1 A fter this, David smote and subdued the Philistines, and took Gath and its villages out of the hand of the Philistines.

And after this it came to pass that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines.

2 H e smote Moab, and the Moabites became David’s servants and brought tribute.

And he smote the Moabites; and the Moabites became David's servants, brought gifts.

3 A lso David defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah toward Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah, at Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

4 D avid took from him 1, 000 chariots, 7, 000 horsemen, and 20, 000 foot soldiers. David also hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved enough for 100 chariots.

And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David houghed all the chariot, but reserved of them a hundred chariots.

5 W hen the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians 22, 000 men.

And the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, and David smote of the Syrians twenty-two thousand men.

6 T hen David put garrisons in Syria, Damascus; the Syrians became David’s servants and brought tribute. Thus the Lord preserved and gave victory to David wherever he went.

And David put in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, brought gifts. And Jehovah preserved David whithersoever he went.

7 D avid took the shields of gold that were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.

8 L ikewise from Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David brought very much bronze, with which Solomon later made the bronze laver, the pillars, and the vessels of bronze.

And from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, David took very much brass, of which Solomon made the brazen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.

9 W hen Tou king of Hamath heard how David had defeated all the hosts of Hadadezer king of Zobah,

And Tou king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the forces of Hadarezer king of Zobah;

10 H e sent Hadoram his son to King David to salute him and to congratulate him because he had fought and defeated Hadadezer, for Hadadezer had had wars with Tou. And Hadoram brought with him all manner of vessels of gold, silver, and bronze.

and he sent Hadoram his son to king David to inquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer and smitten him; for Hadarezer was continually at war with Tou; also all manner of vessels of gold and silver and bronze.

11 K ing David dedicated them also to the Lord, with the silver and the gold he brought from all these nations: Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and the Amalekites.

Them also king David dedicated to Jehovah, with the silver and the gold that he had brought from all the nations: from the Edomites, and from the Moabites, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from the Amalekites.

12 A lso Abishai son of Zeruiah slew 18, 000 of the Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

And Abishai the son of Zeruiah smote of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.

13 H e put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. Thus the Lord preserved and gave victory to David wherever he went.

And he put garrisons in Edom; and all they of Edom became servants to David. And Jehovah preserved David whithersoever he went.

14 S o David reigned over all Israel and executed judgment and justice among all his people.

15 J oab son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder;

16 Z adok son of Ahitub and Abimelech son of Abiathar were the priests; and Shavsha was secretary;

and Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe;

17 B enaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chiefs next to the king.

and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were the first at the king's hand.
