1 T hese are the families of Shem, Ham and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and of their families. Sons were born to them after the flood.

Now these are the records of the generations of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah; and sons were born to them after the flood.

2 T he sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

The sons of Japheth were Gomer and Magog and Madai and Javan and Tubal and Meshech and Tiras.

3 T he sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.

The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz and Riphath and Togarmah.

4 T he sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

The sons of Javan were Elishah and Tarshish, Kittim and Dodanim.

5 F rom these the people who live beside the sea spread out into their lands, each one by his language, family, and nation.

From these the coastlands of the nations were separated into their lands, every one according to his language, according to their families, into their nations.

6 T he sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.

The sons of Ham were Cush and Mizraim and Put and Canaan.

7 T he sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.

The sons of Cush were Seba and Havilah and Sabtah and Raamah and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.

8 C ush became the father of Nimrod, who was the first on earth to become a powerful man.

Now Cush became the father of Nimrod; he became a mighty one on the earth.

9 H e was a powerful animal-killer in the eyes of the Lord. So it is said, “Like Nimrod, a powerful animal-killer in the eyes of the Lord.”

He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the Lord.”

10 T he beginning of his nation was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

The beginning of his kingdom was Babel and Erech and Accad and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

11 H e went into Assyria from the land, and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah

From that land he went forth into Assyria, and built Nineveh and Rehoboth-Ir and Calah,

12 a nd Resen between Nineveh and Calah. That is the great city.

13 M izraim became the father of Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,

17 t he Hivite, the Arkite, the Sinite,

and the Hivite and the Arkite and the Sinite

18 t he Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. Later the Canaanite families spread out.

19 S o the land of the Canaanite was from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim as far as Lasha.

The territory of the Canaanite extended from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; as you go toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

20 T hese are the sons of Ham, by their families, languages, lands and nations.

These are the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, by their nations.

21 C hildren were born to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, and the older brother of Japheth.

Also to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, and the older brother of Japheth, children were born.

22 T he sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.

The sons of Shem were Elam and Asshur and Arpachshad and Lud and Aram.

23 T he sons of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.

The sons of Aram were Uz and Hul and Gether and Mash.

24 A rpachshad became the father of Shelah. Shelah became the father of Eber.

Arpachshad became the father of Shelah; and Shelah became the father of Eber.

25 E ber had two sons. The name of one was Peleg, for the earth was divided in his day. The name of his brother was Joktan.

Two sons were born to Eber; the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

26 J oktan became the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

27 H adoram, Uzal, Diklah,

and Hadoram and Uzal and Diklah

28 O bal, Abimael, Sheba,

and Obal and Abimael and Sheba

29 O phir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.

30 T he land where they lived was from Mesha toward Sephar to the hill country of the east.

Now their settlement extended from Mesha as you go toward Sephar, the hill country of the east.

31 T hese are the sons of Shem, by their families, languages, lands and nations.

These are the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, according to their nations.

32 T hese are the families of the sons of Noah. From these family groups, nations were spread over the earth after the flood.

These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, by their nations; and out of these the nations were separated on the earth after the flood.
