1 S o all Israel was enrolled by genealogies; and they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was carried away captive to Babylon for their unfaithfulness to God.

And all Israel have reckoned themselves by genealogy, and lo, they are written on the book of the kings of Israel and Judah -- they were removed to Babylon for their trespass.

2 N ow the first to dwell again in their possessions in the cities of Israel were the priests, Levites, and the Nethinim.

And the first inhabitants, who in their possession, in their cities, of Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the Nethinim.

3 I n Jerusalem dwelt some of the people of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh:

And in Jerusalem dwelt of the sons of Judah, and of the sons of Benjamin, and of the sons of Ephraim and Manasseh:

4 U thai son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the sons of Pharez son of Judah.

5 O f the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.

And of the Shilonite: Asaiah the first-born, and his sons.

6 O f the sons of Zerah: Jeuel and their kinsmen, 690.

And of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety.

7 O f the Benjamites: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah;

And of the sons of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah,

8 I bneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, the son of Michri; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah;

and Ibneiah son of Jeroham, and Elah son of Uzzi, son of Michri, and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah.

9 A nd their kinsmen, according to their generations, 956. All these were heads of fathers’ houses according to their fathers’ houses.

And their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men, heads of fathers, according to the house of their fathers.

10 O f the priests: Jedaiah; Jehoiarib; Jachin;

And of the priests: Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin,

11 A zariah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the chief officer of God’s house;

and Azariah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, leader in the house of God;

12 A nd Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah; Massai son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer;

and Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah, and Maasai son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer.

13 A nd their kinsmen, heads of their fathers’ houses, 1, 760—very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.

And their brethren, heads to the house of their fathers, a thousand and seven hundred and sixty, mighty in valour, for the work of the service of the house of God.

14 O f the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;

And of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hashshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;

15 A nd Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph;

and Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah son of Micah, son of Zichri, son of Asaph;

16 O badiah son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.

and Obadiah son of Shemariah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah, son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who is dwelling in the villages of the Netophathite.

17 T he gatekeepers were: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their kinsmen, Shallum being the chief

And the gatekeepers Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren -- Shallum the head;

18 W ho hitherto was assigned to the king’s east side gate. They were the gatekeepers of the camp of the Levites.

and hitherto they at the gate of the king eastward; they the gatekeepers for the companies of the sons of Levi.

19 S hallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his kinsmen of his father’s house, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the Tent, as their fathers had been in charge of the camp of the Lord, keepers of the entrance.

And Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, over the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent, and their fathers over the camp of Jehovah, keepers of the entrance;

20 P hinehas son of Eleazar was ruler over them in times past, and the Lord was with him.

and Phinehas son of Eleazar hath been leader over them formerly; Jehovah with him.

21 Z echariah son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.

22 A ll these chosen to be keepers at the thresholds were 212. These were enrolled by their genealogies in their villages, these men David and Samuel the seer had established to their office of trust.

All of those who are chosen for gatekeepers at the thresholds two hundred and twelve; they in their villages, by their genealogy; they whom David and Samuel the seer appointed in their office.

23 S o they and their sons had oversight of the gates of the Lord’s house, that is, the house of the tabernacle, by wards.

And they and their sons over the gates of the house of Jehovah, even of the house of the tent, by watches.

24 T he gatekeepers were stationed on the four sides —on the east, west, north, and south.

At four sides are the gatekeepers, east, west, north, and south.

25 T heir brethren in their villages were to come in every seven days to be with them.

And their brethren in their villages to come in for seven days from time to time with these.

26 B ut these Levites, the four chief gatekeepers, were in charge of the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.

For in office the four chiefs of the gatekeepers, they are Levites, and they have been over the chambers, and over the treasuries of the house of God,

27 T hey lodged round about God’s house, for the duty was theirs, as well as the opening of the house every morning.

and round about the house of God they lodge, for on them the watch, and they over the opening, even morning by morning.

28 S ome of them had charge of the serving utensils, being required to count them when they brought them in or took them out.

And of them over the vessels of service, for by number they bring them in, and by number they take them out.

29 S ome of them also were appointed over the furniture and over all the sacred utensils, as well as over the fine flour, wine, oil, frankincense, and spices.

And of them are appointed over the vessels, even over all the vessels of the sanctuary, and over the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.

30 O ther sons of the priests prepared the ointment of spices.

And of the sons of the priests are mixing the mixture for spices.

31 M attithiah, one of the Levites, the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was responsible for the things baked in pans.

And Mattithiah, of the Levites (he the first-born to Shallum the Korahite), in office over the work of the pans.

32 O f their Kohathite kinsmen, some were to prepare the showbread every Sabbath.

And of the sons of the Kohathite, of their brethren over the bread of the arrangement, to prepare sabbath by sabbath.

33 T hese are the singers, heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, dwelling in the temple chambers, free from other service because they were on duty day and night.

And these who sing, heads of fathers of the Levites, in the chambers, free, for by day and by night over them in the work.

34 T hese were heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, according to their generations, chief men, who lived in Jerusalem.

These heads of the fathers of the Levites throughout their generations heads. These have dwelt in Jerusalem.

35 I n Gibeon dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, whose wife’s name was Maacah,

And in Gibeon dwelt hath the father of Gibeon, Jehiel, and the name of his wife Maachah;

36 H is firstborn son Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,

and his son, the first-born, Abdon, and Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab,

37 G edor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.

and Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth.

38 M ikloth was the father of Shimeam. They also dwelt beside their brethren, opposite their kinsmen in Jerusalem.

And Mikloth begat Shimeam, and they also, over-against their brethren, have dwelt in Jerusalem with their brethren.

39 N er was the father of Kish, Kish of Saul, Saul of Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab, and Esh-baal.

And Ner begat Kish, and Kish begat Saul, and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchi-Shua, and Abinadab, and Esh-Baal.

40 T he son of Jonathan was Merib-baal (Mephibosheth); Merib-baal was the father of Micah.

And a son of Jonathan Merib-Baal, and Merib-Baal begat Micah.

41 T he sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.

And sons of Micah: Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea,

42 A haz was the father of Jarah, and Jarah of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; Zimri was the father of Moza,

and Ahaz -- he begat Jaarah, and Jaarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri, and Zimri begat Moza,

43 M oza of Binea; Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.

and Moza begat Binea, and Rephaiah his son. Eleasah his son, Azel his son.

44 A zel had six sons: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.

And to Azel six sons, and these their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan: these sons of Azel.
