1 M y Christian brothers, not many of you should become teachers. If we do wrong, it will be held against us more than other people who are not teachers.

لا يَنبَغِي، يا إخْوَتِي، أنْ يَصَيرَ كَثِيرُونَ مِنكُمْ مُعَلِّمِيْنَ. أنتُمْ تَعلَمُونَ أنَّنا، نَحنُ المُعَلِّمِيْنَ، سَنُحاسَبُ حِساباً أشَدَّ مِنْ حِسابِ غَيرِنا.

2 W e all make many mistakes. If anyone does not make a mistake with his tongue by saying the wrong things, he is a perfect man. It shows he is able to make his body do what he wants it to do.

أنتُمْ تَعلَمُونَ أنَّنا جَمِيعاً نَرتَكِبُ أخطاءً كَثِيرَةً، لَكِنْ إنْ كانَ أحَدٌ لا يُخطِئُ بِالكَلامِ، فَهُوَ شَخصٌ كامِلٌ يَستَطِيعُ أنْ يُسَيطِرَ عَلَى جَسَدِهِ كُلِّهِ.

3 W e make a horse go wherever we want it to go by a small bit in its mouth. We turn its whole body by this.

فَنَحنُ نَضَعُ اللِّجامَ فِي فَمِ الخُيُولِ لِكَي تُطِيعَنا، وَنَستَطِيعُ بِذَلِكَ أنْ نُسَيطِرَ عَلَى جَسَدِها كُلِّهِ.

4 S ailing ships are driven by strong winds. But a small rudder turns a large ship whatever way the man at the wheel wants the ship to go.

أوِ انظُرُوا إلَى السُّفُنِ مَثَلاً: فَرُغمَ حَجمِها الكَبِيرِ وَالرِّيحِ القَوِيَّةِ الَّتِي تَدفَعُها، نَستَطِيعُ أنْ نُسَيطِرَ عَلَيها بِدَفَّةٍ صَغِيْرَةٍ، يُحَرِّكُها رُبّانُ السَّفِيْنَةِ كَيفَما شاءَ.

5 T he tongue is also a small part of the body, but it can speak big things. See how a very small fire can set many trees on fire.

هَكَذا اللِّسانُ أيضاً، فَمَعَ أنَّهُ عُضوٌ صَغِيرٌ مِنْ أعضاءِ الجَسَدِ، إلّا أنَّهُ يَتَفاخَرُ بِأُمُورٍ عَظِيمَةٍ. ألا تَرَونَ كَيفَ أنَّ شَرارَةً صَغِيرَةً يُمكِنُ أنْ تَحرِقَ غابَةً كَبِيرَةً؟

6 T he tongue is a fire. It is full of wrong. It poisons the whole body. The tongue sets our whole lives on fire with a fire that comes from hell.

فَاللِّسانُ يُشبِهُ النّارَ. إنَّهُ يُشبِهُ عالَماً مِنَ الشَّرِّ بَينَ أعضاءِ جَسَدِنا، لِأنَّهُ يَستَطِيعُ أنْ يُلَوِّثَ الجَسَدَ كُلَّهُ، وَيَكُونُ ناراً تَلتَهِمُ كُلَّ حَياتِنا! أمّا نارُ اللِّسانِ فَمَصدَرُها جُهَنَّمُ!

7 M en can make all kinds of animals and birds and fish and snakes do what they want them to do.

يَستَطِيعُ الإنسانُ أنْ يُرَوِّضَ جَمِيعَ الحَيواناتِ وَالطُّيُورِ وَالزَّواحِفِ وَالكائِناتِ البَحرِيَّةِ، وَقَدْ رَوَّضَها بِالفِعلِ.

8 B ut no man can make his tongue say what he wants it to say. It is sinful and does not rest. It is full of poison that kills.

لَكِنْ لا يَستَطِيْعُ أحَدٌ أنْ يُرَوِّضَ اللِّسانَ. فَاللِّسانُ شَرٌّ لا يُمكِنُ السَّيطَرَةُ عَلَيهِ، وَهُوَ مَملُوءٌ سُمّاً مُمِيْتاً.

9 W ith our tongue we give thanks to our Father in heaven. And with our tongue we speak bad words against men who are made like God.

بِاللِّسانِ نُسَبِّحُ الرَّبَّ وَالآبَ، وَبِاللِّسانِ نَلعَنُ النّاسَ المَخلُوقِينَ عَلَى صُورَةِ اللهِ!

10 G iving thanks and speaking bad words come from the same mouth. My Christian brothers, this is not right!

مِنَ الفَمِ الواحِدِ، يَخرُجُ تَسبِيحٌ وَلَعنَةٌ! لا يَجُوزُ هَذا يا إخْوَتِي.

11 D oes a well of water give good water and bad water from the same place?

لا يُمكِنُ لِنَبعِ المِياهِ أنْ يُخرِجَ ماءً عَذباً وَماءً مالِحاً مَعاً مِنْ مَنبَعٍ واحِدٍ.

12 C an a fig tree give olives or can a grape-vine give figs? A well does not give both good water and bad water. Wisdom from Above

أيُمكِنُ لِشَجَرَةِ التِّيْنِ يا إخْوَتِي، أنْ تُثمِرَ زَيتُوناً؟ أوْ أنْ تُثمِرَ كَرْمَةُ العِنَبِ تِيناً؟ كَذَلِكَ لا يُمكِنُ لِنَبعِ ماءٍ مالِحٍ أنْ يُخرِجَ ماءً عَذباً. الحِكْمَةُ الحَقِيقِيَّة

13 W ho among you is wise and understands? Let that one show from a good life by the things he does that he is wise and gentle.

مَنْ هُوَ الحَكِيمُ وَكَثِيرُ المَعرِفَةِ بَينَكُمْ؟ عَلَى ذَلِكَ الشَّخصِ أنْ يُظهِرَ حِكمَتَهُ بِسُلُوكِهِ الحَسَنِ، وَبِأعمالِهِ الَّتِي يَعمَلُها بِتَواضُعٍ نابِعٍ مِنَ الحِكْمَةِ.

14 I f you have jealousy in your heart and fight to have many things, do not be proud of it. Do not lie against the truth.

لَكِنْ إنْ كانَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ مَملُوءَةً بِالمَرارَةِ وَالحَسَدِ وَالأنانِيَّةِ، فَلا تَفتَخِرُوا بِحِكمَتِكُمْ، فَتَكْذِبوا وَتَخْفوا الحَقِيقَةَ.

15 T his is not the kind of wisdom that comes from God. But this wisdom comes from the world and from that which is not Christian and from the devil.

لَيْسَتْ هَذِهِ هِيَ الحِكْمَةُ النّازِلَةُ مِنَ السَّماءِ، بَلْ هِيَ حِكمَةٌ أرْضِيَّةٌ، نَفسِيَّةٌ، شَيطانِيَّةٌ.

16 W herever you find jealousy and fighting, there will be trouble and every other kind of wrong-doing.

فَحَيثُما يُوجَدُ الحَسَدُ وَالأنانِيَّةُ، هُناكَ الفَوضَى وَالشَّرُّ بِأشكالِهِ المُتَنَوِّعَةِ.

17 B ut the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure. Then it gives peace. It is gentle and willing to obey. It is full of loving-kindness and of doing good. It has no doubts and does not pretend to be something it is not.

أمّا الحِكْمَةُ النّازِلَةُ مِنَ السَّماءِ فَهِيَ، قَبلَ كُلِّ شَيءٍ، طاهِرَةٌ، ثُمَّ مُسالِمَةٌ، مُتَرَفِّقَةٌ بِالآخَرِيْنَ، وَيَسهُلُ التَّعامُلُ مَعَها. إنَّها مَملوءَةٌ بِالرَّحمَةِ وَالأعمالِ الصّالِحَةِ، وَهِيَ عادِلَةٌ، وَمُخلِصَةٌ.

18 T hose who plant seeds of peace will gather what is right and good.

فَالثَّمَرُ النّاتِجُ عَنْ حَياةِ البِرِّ، هُوَ الثَّمَرُ الَّذِي يَصنَعُهُ العامِلُونَ مِنْ أجلِ السَّلامِ، بِطَرِيقَةٍ مُسالِمَةٍ.
