1 A gain I lifted up my eyes and behold, I saw a scroll flying or floating in the air!
I looked up again and saw a flying book.
2 A nd the angel said to me, What do you see? And I answered, I see a flying scroll; its length is twenty cubits or thirty feet and its breadth is ten cubits or fifteen feet.
And the angel said to me, “What do you see?” I said, “I see a flying book, as long as ten long steps and as wide as five long steps.”
3 T hen he said to me, This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole land; for everyone who steals shall be cut off from henceforth according to it, and everyone who swears falsely shall be cut off from henceforth according to it.
Then he said to me, “This is the curse that is going out over all the land. Everyone who steals will be cut off by what is written on one side. And everyone who swears will be cut off by what is written on the other side.
4 I will bring forth, says the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief and into the house of him who swears falsely by My name; and it shall abide in the midst of his house and shall consume it, both its timber and its stones.
I will send it out,” says the Lord of All, “and it will go into the house of the robber and the house of the one who makes false promises using My name. It will spend the night in that house and destroy it, both its wood and stones.” Zechariah Sees a Woman in a Basket
5 T hen the angel who talked with me came forward and said to me, Lift up now your eyes and see what this is that goes forth.
Then the angel who was speaking with me came out and said to me, “Look up and see what this is that is going out.”
6 A nd I said, What is it? And he said, This that goes forth is an ephah. This, he continued, is the symbol of the sinners mentioned above and is the resemblance of their iniquity throughout the whole land.
And I said, “What is it?” He said, “This is the large basket going out.” And he said, “This is the sin of all the people in all the land.”
7 A nd behold, a round, flat weight of lead was lifted and there sat a woman in the midst of the ephah.
Then the lead cover was lifted up, and there was a woman sitting in the large basket.
8 A nd he said, This is lawlessness (wickedness)! And he thrust her back into the ephah and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth of it!
The angel said, “This is Sin!” And he threw her back into the basket and threw the lead weight on its opening.
9 T hen lifted I up my eyes and looked, and behold, there were two women coming forward! The wind was in their wings, for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heavens.
Then I looked up and saw two women coming out with the wind in their wings. They had wings like the wings of a stork. And they lifted up the large basket between earth and heaven.
10 T hen said I to the angel who talked with me, Where are they taking the ephah?
I said to the angel who was speaking with me, “Where are they taking the basket?”
11 A nd he said to me, To the land of Shinar to build it a house, and when it is finished, to set up the ephah there upon its own base.
He said to me, “To build a house for it in the land of Shinar. When it is ready, it will be put in its place.”
