1 T he hand of the Lord was upon me, and He brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.

The hand of the Lord was upon me. He brought me out by His Spirit and set me down in the center of the valley. It was full of bones.

2 A nd He caused me to pass round about among them, and behold, there were very many in the open valley or plain, and behold, they were very dry.

He led me around the valley. I saw there were very many bones, and they were very dry.

3 A nd He said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, You know!

He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I answered, “O Lord God, only You know that.”

4 A gain He said to me, Prophesy to these bones and say to them, O you dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.

He said to me, “Speak in My name over these bones. Say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the Word of the Lord.’

5 T hus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath and spirit to enter you, and you shall live;

This is what the Lord God says to these bones: ‘I will make breath come into you, and you will come to life.

6 A nd I will lay sinews upon you and bring up flesh upon you and cover you with skin, and I will put breath and spirit in you, and you shall live; and you shall know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord.

I will join you together, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin, and put breath in you to make you come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”

7 S o I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise and behold, a shaking and trembling and a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone.

So I spoke as I was told. And as I spoke, there was a noise, the sound of bones hitting against each other. The bones came together, bone to bone.

8 A nd I looked and behold, there were sinews upon and flesh came upon them and skin covered them over, but there was no breath or spirit in them.

I looked and saw that parts had grown to hold them together. Flesh had grown, and they were covered with skin. But there was no breath in them.

9 T hen said He to me, Prophesy to the breath and spirit, son of man, and say to the breath and spirit, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath and spirit, and breathe upon these slain that they may live.

Then He said to me, “Speak to the breath in My name, son of man. Tell the breath, ‘The Lord God says, “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these dead bodies to make them come to life.”’”

10 S o I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath and spirit came into, and they lived and stood up upon their feet, an exceedingly great host.

So I spoke as I had been told. The breath came into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet. They were a large army.

11 T hen He said to me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, Our bones are dried up and our hope is lost; we are completely cut off.

Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are all the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is gone. We are all destroyed.’

12 T herefore prophesy and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, O My people; and I will bring you to the land of Israel.

So speak in My name and tell them, ‘The Lord God says, “I will open your graves, My people, and make you come out of them. And I will bring you into the land of Israel.

13 A nd you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves and caused you to come up out of your graves, O My people.

Then, My people, you will know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves and brought you up.

14 A nd I shall put My Spirit in you and you shall live, and I shall place you in your own land. Then you shall know, understand, and realize that I the Lord have spoken it and performed it, says the Lord.

I will put My Spirit within you, and you will come to life. I will place you in your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and have done it,” says the Lord.’” Judah and Israel under One King

15 T he word of the Lord came again to me, saying,

The Word of the Lord came to me saying,

16 S on of man, take a stick and write on it, For Judah and the children of Israel his companions; then take another stick and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and all the house of Israel his companions;

“Son of man, take one stick of wood and write on it, ‘For Judah and for the people of Israel with him.’ Then take another stick of wood and write on it, ‘For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the people of Israel with him.’

17 A nd join them together into one stick that they may become one in your hand.

Then join them together into one stick so that they will become one in your hand.

18 A nd when your people say to you, Will you not show us what you mean by these?

And when your people say to you, ‘Will you not let us know what you mean by these?’

19 S ay to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph—which is in the hand of Ephraim—and the tribes of Israel his associates, and will join with it the stick of Judah and make them one stick, and they shall be one in My hand.

tell them, ‘The Lord God says, “I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the people of Israel who are with him. And I will put it with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick. They will be one in My hand.”’

20 W hen the sticks on which you write shall be in your hand before their eyes,

Hold in front of them the sticks you write on,

21 T hen say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the nations to which they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land.

and tell them, ‘The Lord God says, “I will take the people of Israel from the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land.

22 A nd I will make them one nation in the land, upon the mountains of Israel, and one King shall be King over them all; and they shall be no longer two nations, neither be divided into two kingdoms any more.

I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. And one king will rule over all of them. They will no longer be two nations, and they will no longer be divided under two kings.

23 T hey shall not defile themselves any more with their idols and their detestable things or with any of their transgressions, but I will save them out of all their dwelling places and from all their backslidings in which they have sinned, and I will cleanse them. So shall they be My people, and I will be their God.

They will no longer make themselves unclean with their false gods, or with their hated objects of worship, or with any of their sins. I will keep them from turning again to these sins, and will make them clean. They will be My people, and I will be their God.

24 A nd David My Servant shall be King over them, and they all shall have one Shepherd. They shall also walk in My ordinances and heed My statutes and do them.

“My servant David will be their king, and they will have one shepherd. They will follow and keep My Laws, and obey them.

25 T hey shall dwell in the land in which your fathers dwelt, that I gave to My servant Jacob, and they shall dwell there, they and their children and their children’s children, forever; and My Servant David shall be their Prince forever.

And they will live in the land that I gave to My servant Jacob, where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children’s children will live in it forever. And My servant David will be their leader forever.

26 I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them, and I will give blessings to them and multiply them and will set My sanctuary in the midst of them forevermore.

I will make a peace agreement with them, one that lasts forever. I will bring good to them and make them many in number. And I will set My holy place among them forever.

27 M y tabernacle or dwelling place also shall be with them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

I will live with them, and will be their God, and they will be My people.

28 T hen the nations shall know, understand, and realize that I the Lord do set apart and consecrate Israel for holy use, when My sanctuary shall be in their midst forevermore.

Then the nations will know that I am the Lord Who makes Israel holy, when My holy place is among them forever.”’”
